AUDITION PACKET

Welcome to the very first step in the audition process for the Lincoln High School Musical, The Addams Family. I am very excited to begin this journey with you. Please read the packet carefully and share with your parent or guardian. It is my hope that you walk into the audition feeling prepared and if cast, know what to expect so we can all have an incredible experience. I look forward to seeing you at the auditions.

Cast Auditions: Tuesday, January 21st and Thursday January 23rd from 3:50 – 6:00 PM in the Lincoln Auditorium. If you cannot make both audition dates, you must arrange an alternative time with Ms. Sullivan. Callbacks will be Friday, January 24th from 3:50 PM until we are done. Audition Workshops: Optional workshops to learn the music will be held on Friday, January 10th and Tuesday, January 14th from 4 PM – 5:15 PM in the Choir Room. Casting: The cast of The Addams Family will consist of approximately 20 – 30 students. The cast list will be posted online Saturday, January 25th. Cast Meeting: The first cast meeting will be Monday, January 27th from 3:50 PM – 5:00 PM. This is where we will meet each other and go over expectations. Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin Monday, February 3rd. We will rehearse from 3:50-6:00 PM every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday rehearsals are TBD. There will be three Saturday rehearsals, March 21st, April 4th, and May 2nd (times to be determined). The show will be broken up into scenes and there will be a calendar outlining when each cast member needs to be present. Rehearsal conflicts stated on the audition sheet will be taken into consideration when creating the rehearsal calendar. Conflicts stated after casting may result in the need to recast so please do your best to list all conflicts up front. We will not be rehearsing over Midwinter or Spring Break. Rehearsals will go later during tech, the week before and the week of the show. The Saturday, May 2nd tech rehearsal will be mandatory for all cast and crew.

Performances: Performances will be at 7 PM on May 7th, 8th, and 9th with a 2 PM Matinee on May 9th. Expectations/Fees/Expenses:

• All Cast and Crew must have an ASB Card (Full and partial scholarships available)

• Personal undergarments (tights, socks, etc.) and footwear for the production.

• Personal makeup and hair products as determined by the costume designer.

Cast Audition Format: The auditions will follow a group format. Each student should prepare to:

• Turn in a completed audition form (page 3 &4)

• Turn in the signed LHS The Addams Family Participation Contract (page 5)

• Introduce themselves by stating their name and grade.

• Perform one of the suggested monologues in this packet. (Must be memorized)

• Sing one of the song selections in this packet. (Must be memorized)

• Learn and perform a short dance combination that will be taught at the audition.

Stage Management and Stage Crew: If you are interested in being a part of the production and prefer to be on the tech side, we need you! There will be a meeting on January 28th at lunch in room 109 to put together our technical team. We will need an Assistant Stage Manager as well as a lighting, sound, set, costume, prop, publicity, house manager, and run crew. Please contact Ms. Sullivan if you are interested. Pit Orchestra: If you are interested in playing an instrument for the show, sign up outside the Band room. There will be 10+ rehearsals and you will be expected to be available for tech rehearsals and all performances. Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I wear to the audition? Wear comfortable clothing that looks nice and you can move in. Close toed shoes or dance shoes are preferred. Should I memorize the song and monologue? Yes. We are looking to see how well you prepare for a role. Can I sing a song I have prepared from another musical? If you would also like to prepare 16-32 bars (no longer than one minute) from a song not from The Addams Family in addition to the required material, you may but it is not required. You must have accompaniment music for your song on a Bluetooth device or speaker. A Capella singing will not be allowed. Your song choice should showcase your voice range and style. Do I have to prepare my own dance for the audition? No. There will be someone teaching you a short dance combination at the audition. If I do not get cast, can I apply to be on the crew? Absolutely! We will have a meeting for potential crew January 28th at lunch in Room 109. If I do not get cast, can I play an instrument with the Pit Orchestra? If you are interested in the playing in the pit, sign up outside the Band Room. Will there be a parent meeting? A parent informational meeting will be held after casting. Time and date TBA.

LHS The Addams Family Participation Contract

If cast in Lincoln High School’s production of The Addams Family. I agree to:

1. Attend all scheduled rehearsals unless I have previously cleared my absence with Ms. Sullivan.

2. Be prompt, bring my script, and a pencil to all rehearsals.

3. Plan to rehearse every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and selected Saturdays, if called.

4. Make good use of my own time while others are rehearsing and give them the best atmosphere in which to attain the

goals they are seeking.

5. Spend personal time and energy learning my part in addition to actual directed rehearsal times.

6. Understand that it is my responsibility to keep the rehearsal space clean and assist with maintaining the space.

7. Abide by the decisions of the director, musical director, and choreographer.

8. Be responsible for all costumes and props assigned to me and will return them to their proper owners in the same or

better condition in which they were received.

9. Be responsible for the microphone assigned to me and will secure it to its proper place. If I break or damage the

microphone while in my care, I am responsible for paying for any damages or a replacement.

10. Take notes during rehearsal. These notes will include blocking, acting, singing and dancing. I will study my notes to

improve.

11. Devote the required time and energy to the musical without jeopardizing my academic achievement. I understand

that academic ineligibility will prevent my participation in the musical.

12. Understand the importance of teamwork and discipline in the performing arts and will approach the problems of

rehearsing and performing a musical with energy, cooperation, and positivity.
