Principal’s Message
Farewell Mrs Poulton and Welcome Miss Pezikian Today we farewelled Mrs Elise Poulton, class teacher of 3P, as she
commences her Maternity Leave from tomorrow. We wish her well as
she awaits the birth of her
baby and looks forward to
the new addition to her
family. We welcomed
Miss Nyree Pezikian as
the new class teacher for
3P. Today she spent time
team-teaching with Mrs
Poulton as she got to
know the class and the
routines.
The 'Tell Them From Me' Parent Feedback Survey
This term our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning
Parent Survey. Thank you to the 20 parents/carers who have taken
part in the survey thus far. Your valuable feedback will help guide
decisions around the future directions of our school. The survey will
typically take 20 minutes or less to complete and is completely
confidential. The survey can be done in several languages. Although
participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are
very much appreciated.
The last four questions are unique to our school and they
include what you would like to see improved in our school. We
look forward to hearing your feedback.
To access the LPS Parent Survey please go to:

New Guidelines from 19 August As you may be aware, the Department of Education has issued some updated guidelines regarding
school operations. I have attached these to this message. Here is the link
https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families
Specifically, the changes are:
No group singing or choirs permitted
No group playing of wind instruments - this means that all band rehearsals in the School Hall will
be cancelled as of 5pm Tuesday 18 August
No Recorders in Music lessons
All students with flu like symptoms need to be tested and provide a copy of a negative COVID-19
test result before being permitted to return to school. Students who are unwell, even with mild
symptoms, should not attend school. Students who present as unwell will have to be sent home.
Please ensure that the school has your most up-to-date emergency contact details.
At this stage the following activities can continue:
All individual music tutorials, including wind instruments
String Ensemble Rehearsals
Dance Troupes and K-2 Dance lessons
Claymation
Kindy Farm Incursion
Friday chess and Inter-school Chess Tournament
Scripture and Ethics
I am awaiting further advice about PSSA Sport and Rec Sport and will keep you informed when I have
the answers. Please be aware that activities that are permitted can change according to NSW Health
advice. I will provide advice as I receive it.
If students are away from school because they are unwell, there is no expectation that they complete
school work. It is important that unwell students rest.
Thank you for your ongoing support and consideration during these challenging times. Together we will
take appropriate precautions to keep everyone safe.
Swimming is back! This week our P&C run swimming
program recommenced with strict
guidelines to make this a COVID-
19 Safe Activity. ‘Learn to Swim’
and ‘Squads’ opportunities are
still available (see the Swimming
Report). It was lovely to see the
pool in action again and hear the
delight of our swimmers as they
improve their skills.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2021
Kindergarten enrolments for 2021 are now overdue. Please contact the Office for an
Enrolment Form or fill out a form using the link below. Due to COVID restrictions,
Kindergarten Orientation is currently on hold in all schools. Later in the term, more
information regarding Information Sessions and Orientation Days will be sent out.
Application to Enrol in a NSW Government School
Education Week Filming
This week we will be filming at school as part of our Education Week video. This will be published next
week on the School Website, in Lindfield Lines and via email to all families. It will be used for
promotional purposes and to celebrate student engagement. We will be using a drone to do some of our
filming. This will involve filming students and the school grounds from a height. We will also be making
short videos and taking photographs of students working in class and taking part in school activities. No
names will be published. We will be using the Annual Permission Notes as our source of information for
permission to publish. Please contact the school office if you want to change your child’s publishing
consent or if you do not want your child to be filmed using the drone.
K-2 Dance - Sports Uniform
Our Dance program for all K-2 students starts next Monday 24 August. We ask that
K-2 students wear their sports uniform each Monday for the rest of the term. Class
Dance has now concluded for Years 3-6 students and they have demonstrated
amazing dance moves.
Kindy Farm Reminder
Our Kindergarten students are very excited that our Palm Playground will be turned into a
farm tomorrow. Traditionally students in Kindergarten would be visiting the farm for an
excursion, but due to COVID-19 restrictions excursions are currently on hold. Therefore
the farm is coming to us! A reminder that Kindergarten students are invited to come
dressed as either a farmer or a farm animal on the day ensuring they wear covered shoes
and a sun hat (no singlet tops please).
K-2 Assembly
Our outdoor mini-assembly was a great opportunity to congratulate numerous students receiving
awards. Thank you to Daniel and Rocket from 2T who so capably led our assembly. Congratulations to
our Gold Award recipients and to KS who received Lindfield Lion for displaying outstanding assembly
manners. Thank you to Mr Gardiner for organising our assemblies.
Students Who ROAR!
Ethan F (2T)
Ethan is a hard-working student who puts 100% into
everything he does. He always tries to plan and write
interesting stories.
“I have worked hard and kept trying to learn my times
tables. I practise all the time and try different strategies to
get the right answer”.
Simone B (5/6V)
Simone is an inspiring student who never gives up once
she decides to achieve something. She enjoys the
choice of learning tasks and individualised approach
offered by her teacher.
“I try to keep a positive attitude as it helps me focus my
mind on what I need to do and helps me to not give up.”
Check-in Assessment Year 5
On Monday and Tuesday next week Year 5 will be participating in a Check-in Assessment
in our computer labs. Students will complete two tests, one in Mathematics and one in
Reading. Each assessment consists of approximately 40 multiple choice questions. We
ask that students bring headphones from home in order to access the audio
component of the assessments.
The Check-in Assessment will supplement existing school practices and identify how students are
performing in Literacy and Numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to
student needs. The Check-in Assessments will provide feedback to teachers soon after the completion
of the assessment. We hope that these assessments will give us some much needed standardised data
for Year 5 students in what has been a disrupted year.
Claymation in Stage 2
Stage 2 students have been preparing for and participating in Claymation as part of our STEAM program
at LPS. Students have written scripts, created storyboards, designed their backgrounds and filmed their
creations.
Claymation gives our students an opportunity to experiment with stop-motion animation. Students move
the plasticine model they create, take a photo and change the model once again this is then compiled
together with editing software to form a short film. All students will then be given access to view their
class creations.
All of the feedback that we have received from both students and teachers has been overwhelmingly
positive. It is fantastic to be able to give our students another creative outlet at school.

Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2020, we have a small number of children who could have a potentially life
threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that
these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Please note, no students are allowed to bring
glass bottles to school for safety reason

Borrowing at Lindfield PS
We have begun training our Years 3-6 students how to browse safely from the shelves using hand sanitiser
beforehand and the importance of what can and cannot be touched. They are carefully monitored by both
the Teacher Librarian and their classroom teacher. This has been met with great enthusiasm and maturity
as the students have been following instructions very carefully and their borrowing rates have dramatically
increased! With our K-2 students, they are able to choose from a very small collection of arranged books on
mini trolleys set up with appropriate books. These are arranged in such a way that they are easy to grab
without handling any surrounding books.
However, to ensure the safety of both students and staff, we are continuing to use the online reservation
system of Oliver Library if you would prefer your children not to browse from the shelves. Please note that
due to time restrictions, we will be safely removing the books for students at 3pm the day before their
lesson. For Monday classes, this will be 3pm the Friday before. We will also not be able to remove them the
day of their lesson.
In order for us to know which books your child would like to borrow, please log into their account on Oliver
Library and reserve the books through there. We have prepared a short video tutorial demonstrating how to
place reservations through our Oliver Library website. To view the tutorial, please click this link:
https://www.loom.com/share/838d39d451c34a81854407dc762bb266
Oliver Library can be accessed via https://library.det.nsw.edu.au, or through your child’s Student Portal.
Please use their Department of Education username and password.
If your child forgets to bring his/her books back or was sick, please keep the
books at home and return them next Library lesson. Thank you for your
patience and understanding at this time!

Pizzas are back – Monday and Tuesday
Our popular pizzas are back on the menu – with the choice of Cheese or Ham &

the K-2 or 3-6 Canteen windows, as they are kept warm. Order via Flexischools
before 8:30am for lunchtime collection.
Kindy Lunch Orders: Look out for ‘Collect Me’ stickers
To help our emerging Kindergarten readers, we use ‘collect me’ stickers so they

your Kindy children these stickers on their lunch order bags mean they need to visit
the Canteen to collect the following items:

Winter uniform is still mandatory.
The SHOP remains closed - Online is OPEN
While our physical shop remains closed, you can still order your uniforms online.
https://lpspandc.org.au/uniform-shop/ We are processing all orders on either Wednesdays or Thursdays and
delivering them to the child’s classroom teacher.
Please order what you think you need, take your items home and try them on. If you got the size wrong or
ordered incorrectly, drop your items back to the Front Office. We will collect them from there and exchange
these items before taking them back to the classroom.
2nd hand clothing
While our physical shop remains closed you can order 2nd hand clothing: Please send an email to
[email protected] indicating the items and size you require and we will go for a hunt through our 2nd
hand boxes and take items to the Front Office for you.
You can then have a look at them and if you like them, please leave the money with the Front Office staff for
us.
Label your belongings
I know I harp on, but please label your belongings and encourage your precious one to look after them. We
can only return things if we find a legible name on it! Please be aware that your child’s first name alone is
NOT enough – we do need to know your last name too.
Swimming
Swimming has started again. Swim Caps are compulsory! We stock silicone caps in all four house colours.
We also have swim bags that have a handy little pocket to keep the goggles and cap safe.

SWIMMING RESUMED THIS WEEK
Swimming has resumed this week and now is a great opportunity to remind everyone of our Code of Conduct
which can be found on our website via this link: https://lpspandc.org.au/sport-and-swimming/#toggle-id-10.
Please read and familiarise yourself with our swimming program rules.
Another important reminder is that our COVID restriction protocols must be followed by all parents, carers and
children. These are also on our website via this link: https://lpspandc.org.au/sport-and-swimming/#toggle-id-
9. PARENTS PLEASE LEAVE THE SCHOOL GROUNDS IMMEDIATELY AFTER DROP OFF AND PICK
UP. NO HANGING AROUND. OUR SWIMMING PROGRAM DEPENDS ON THESE RULES BEING
ADHERED TO.
Please also remind children to bring all the equipment required for training e.g. water bottle, snacks, goggles,
swimming cap, towel and warm clothes.
ENROLMENTS
Enrolments are still open but places are filling fast. If you have not already enrolled, please do so now by
emailing the Swimming Administrator.
SQUADS AND LEARN TO SWIM PAYMENTS
If you have enrolled and you have received confirmation of your booking, payment is now due IN FULL by
clicking the correct squad link on our website: https://lpspandc.org.au/sport-and-swimming/. FEES MUST
BE PAID BY DUE DATE OF 31 AUGUST 2020 IN ORDER TO REDEEM YOUR ACTIVE KIDS
VOUCHER. All payment instructions and Active Kids Voucher redemption instructions are on the website.
ARE YOU NEW TO SWIMMING OR IN KINDERGARTEN TO YEAR 2?
We are excited about the new season of swimming. If you are new to swimming and would like to get
involved, visit our website here: https://lpspandc.org.au/sport-and-swimming/
This is a great opportunity for K-2 students to learn a valuable life skill. If your child is nervous around water
or pools, there is no better place than Learn to Swim classes to build confident swimmers. We encourage all
K-2 students to give Learn to Swim a go.
If your children are more confident swimmers, we also offer swimming squad sessions to improve stroke and
technique.
All new children must attend a grading session with our coach and be assigned a squad or lesson level. If you
would like your child to be assessed, email the Swimming Administrator to make a booking. Your child should
wear swimmers, cap and goggles. They will enter the pool regardless of ability. Swimming is a COVID safe
activity and safety protocols are in place.

Band
Changes to Band Rehearsal Schedule: Online Rehearsals resuming in Week 6
As you all may know, the NSW Department of Education has updated the COVID-19 guidelines, which sadly
impacts face-to-face band rehearsals at Lindfield PS from today. No group playing of wind instruments is
permitted.
All remaining Week 5 rehearsals have been cancelled (Wed-Fri) for all band ensembles.
From Week 6, (from Monday 24 August onwards) all ensembles will return to online rehearsals until
further notice. Your parent band rep/conductor will send you further updates about specific times and links
for your child’s ensemble via email. Please keep an eye out for email updates.
We understand the changing rehearsal formats and routines are not ideal. Every effort is being made to
keep band members engaged, connected, and encouraged with a continued online program during the
restrictions. Please support your children to participate in these online rehearsals and enjoy their music
making.
Thanks to our whole band community for your ongoing support, adaptability and understanding. Special
thanks to all our hard-working Conductors, Parent band reps and Volunteer committee members for your
efforts and resilience at this tumultuous time.
Tutorials
Tutorials will remain unchanged at this time and can continue face to face onsite at LPS until further notice.
Tutors and students need to maintain 1.5m distance at all times and follow the Covid-19 protocols.
Have you paid your Semester 2 Band fees?
Thank you to the families who have already made payment for Semester 2.
Semester 2 Band fees and Instrument Hire fees (if applicable) still need to be paid this week (deadline
Friday 21 August).
Refunds due to Covid-19 restrictions: The unfolding situation and the impact for LPS band rehearsals
may potentially result in band fees being reviewed and adjustments (partial refunds or credits) given. As we
do not have any control over the situation or know the duration, we can only determine the impact to the
changed rehearsal schedule at the end of Term 3 (or when the normal schedule resumes). We will
communicate any changes as soon as we are able. Please make sure you continue to read The Lines or
look for emails from your band coordinators. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the
Band Convenors for a confidential conversation [email protected]
Creative Kids Vouchers
Once you have paid your fees in full, you may be able to claim a $100 rebate per child by using your Service
NSW Creative Kids Voucher – apply via Service NSW.
After paying your fees, complete the online form (you will need your CK voucher number and your fee order
number) on the LPS P&C website: https://lpspandc.org.au/creative-kids-voucher-redemption-form/

social distancing guidelines and for prompt pick ups / drop offs. String Ensembles can continue at this stage,
however, if circumstances change, we will notify you ASAP by email (followed by an announcement in
Lindfield Lines).
Music does wonders to our brains, our character and our emotional wellbeing. We hope that your children
can continue to experience these benefits during this time.
