Officer Reports
Arts & Sciences - Rose Largess competition at Investiture was amazing (see event report for details). The next project night is
this Saturday, Sept. 25 at Katya’s.
Chatelaine – Aliva
We had one very enthusiastic newcomer come to Odin's. He was from Fjordland, so we filled his head with information, which spawned questions, and set him loose to his home Shire. Looking forward to
what comes of his enthusiasm! [Chronicler’s note: We also had a representative at Odin’s who spoke to the principality seneschal and who did a nice article for the Maple Ridge Times newspaper, hopefully drawing new members. Porzia said that they want to do a bigger article on the SCA. He said “more
interesting than the curling thing” he was supposed to cover.] Also note, if press shows up, send them to the seneschalate per the Board of Directors.
Chronicler – Katya Please submit articles for the Paw Print.
Web Minister – Katya Minutes are updated after the end of each council meeting, and the Facebook group and announcements pages are being updated and well utilized.
Exchequer – Rikard Working balance is 15,496.06
Current Balance is: $15,496.06. (It does not appear that the Parks & Leisure cheques have been cashed.)
Account change/Prospera: No progress has bee made on the Prospera end.
However, I may be able to achieve the same end, while staying at TD:
We currently have a “TD EVERY DAY BUSINESS PLAN A” (see below). They also have 2 other plans for community oriented businesses.
“COMMUNITY PLAN” and COMMUNITY PLAN PLUS”
Service Plan* Options Monthly Plan Fee
Transactions Deposit Items Cash Deposits Fee Rebate with Balance of2
Community Plan $1.95 5 15 $2,500 $5,000
Community Plan Plus $4.95 30 30 $5,000 $10,000
Every Day A $17 20 50 $5,000 $15,000
The COMMUNITY PLANs both have significantly reduced monthly costs, and the costs are waived with a lower balance than our current plan.
As some of our deposits approach $2500, we might want to go with “COMMUNITY PLAN PLUS”; we
should be able to remain above the $10,000 balance easily.
Such a change to the account would not require all signing members to be present.
Motion that we switch to Prospera – Luther. One abstention, all the rest in favor.
People with signing authorities will be: Jason Isaak, Richard Feltham, Jerry Kittel, Paul Puhallo. Moved and passed.
Chamberlain – Meadly Meadly is stepping down. Jocelyn has volunteered.
Herald – Aliva Nothing to report.
Master of Stables – Lupo This last month has seen some interesting things happen within the shire, at least on a minor scale. The shire now has 3 archery butts to be used as needed, they are currently being stored in the trailer. We also have uprights for our netting. The Uprights do need to be cut down to 10 feet long instead of their
12 feet but that is easily doable, though at the 10 foot mark we will need to put more guide wires on, but also not a huge issue. Thanks from the shire for the stands/butts should go to Her Ladyship Jaqueline Lefleur of Lionsgate. [Yay, thank you, Jaqueline!!]
Odin’s Playground, from a fighters point of view, was a good success, with many fighters showing up for
all 3 martial aspects, though combat archery was lacking members. We invited the populace to shoot against our raiders and even the princess shot her husband at least once.
The MoS is in the works of producing a fight practice for the shire which will include heavy fighting, rapier, archery, YAC (if we can find a marshal), and arts and sciences. I am looking and hoping for
Wednesday nights for this practice, doing a 3-‐on, 1-‐off rotation to coincide with council. I have reviewed
other days for rental of the buildings at Albion to be able to practice. Thursday nights are not available due to 583 Coronation squadron (Air Cadets) having the halls for their drill and Tuesday nights are also
out so we do not conflict with Lions Gate’s Fight practice. I have considered Mondays and Fridays as well but after careful consideration neither day would work in the best interest of the Shire (Fridays, most people are preparing for or traveling to weekend events, and Mondays would be more useful as
recovery from an event). While there are not many weekend events through the winter it is easier to get SCA insurance by booking the full year including the summer. My understanding is that each hall costs between $9 and $10 dollars per hour, for a total of $60 per practice night if both halls are rented. To
break even we will need to have at least 12 members attend with a cover charge of $5 dollars per person. (Suggestions were heard to do 6-‐8PM and cut the cost, and have still a good time early for youth and encourage people to maximize the time.)
I believe this to be a reasonable expectation as we will be including A&S, but I also expect and plan for
the shire to absorb the cost at least for the first month or so until word fully gets out that we are having practices.
Lupo will follow up with the City through Desiree on the questions and bring answers to October council.
Scribe – Open Archery Marshal – Open Rapier Marshal – Open Equestrian Marshal – Open Gold Key - Open
Seneschal – Luther I would like to start by thanking our recent stewards for the past two events, Katya and Aliva for their hard work. I also want to thank their teams for the work they did to support the stewards. I would also like to remind anyone who thinks they would like to try their hand at event stewarding should ask, and
we can help you give it a try! I won't be here next month due to work requirements.
Events
Tir Righ August Investiture 2015 (Aug 28-30) – Katya The weather and an outside commitment for many usual attendees made for interesting times. But
despite heavy rain at times and unusually high winds, which did cause trees to go down, some tent failures and a power outage for much of Saturday and all of Sunday, the event had many things going for it. Still a fairly high turn out (194, though 30 were children and 19 comps), new Prince Vikingr and
Princess Lishinia were invested, competitions and championships were held (see below for victors) and and TUTR classes were held.
Championships & Competitions:
Archery Champion (Scorer of Tir Righ) -‐ HL Wulfwyn of Meduseld Heavy Champion (Scourge of Tir Righ) -‐ Duke Ieuan Gower
Rapier Competitions -‐ Master Godfrey (torchlight), Lord Kian (cadets)
Largess Competition -‐ HL Brigitte die Arrogante
Most of all, there was music and laughter and newcomers getting introduced to activities and friends reconnecting. Combined with a financial profit ($1,211.16 to the principality and $403.72 to the Shire), the event is certainly to be counted a success, thanks to all who helped pull it together to make it work.
The site, being a City site, is a dry one, so that is the one drawback, but given the City's willingness to work with us well and the lowered cost of this site from past times, as well as such amenities as 7 standard flush bathrooms, and having pets on leash allowed, I highly recommend its continued use,
especially if similarly priced and appointed venues allowing alcohol cannot be found. See attached full report for details.
Odin’s 2015 – September 11-13 Thanks to all the team! Could not have done it without Rose, Katya, Oak, Thora, Godfrey, Lupo, Elena.
Event was successful and profit was $614.10. (Lupo will look for the archery uprights.)
Committees
Financial Committee No meeting this month. Luther says Oct. 7, 2015 at 7PM at Katya’s and will include working on the
budget.
Old Business Banner Fundraiser Porzia has received the supplies and so she and Porzia will explore options on a date for a class and get back to us.
Tent Replacement Luther was looking at Panther for Marquee 13x18 but other Panther tent owners have said that using homemade poles is a bad idea (needs seasoning/drying etc.) Desiree was going to talk to her tents’
original owners about where their poles came from as they’ve held up well. Cost difference is about 40%. The original tent _approved by council_ included the poles. Motion that we go with the originally approved plan – unanimous.
Group Space School district still has not responded to our form. Tabled for now.
New List Fields & Indoor Banner Poles Godfrey was to get pricing list fields/banner bases, and a piece of metal to insert in between the legs and pole. Also, he was pricing individual ropes (upgrading). Tabled for next month.
Event Dates 2016-2017 Katya spoke to Fjordland’s seneschal, Theodora, who has arranged for their fall event to be offset from Odin’s so the populace can attend both. Given the number of people who attended Odin’s who
indicated that it’s the only event they attend each year, and the possibility that either some of these
people will stick around or bring others who will join, if suitable event staff and team become available, Katya would like to suggest that Odin’s remain each year (despite some earlier debate about moving it
to every other year). It is currently on next year’s calendar, so if anyone is interesting in being next year’s event steward, let’s get it out there now (and if not, we can release the date asap so someone else can have it. Council discussed having Champs contain all the competitions and doing Winter’s
Tourney every two years especially as it’s a smaller profit event (but it may be a prestige event, and both sets of principality royals). Or do Odin’s one year and Winter’s Tourney the next. Seneschal points out that the event stewards will burn out if don’t have new event stewards. Talk about it and we’ll discuss it
again over the next few months.
Luther volunteers to do Champs as the “all the champions event” in 2016. Kenneth points out that championships not be put concurrent with each other, especially archery. Time limits could be put on competitions and other ways to make it work. Winter’s Tourney could be a prize tourney. Need an event
steward by next month or we need to eliminate it for next month.
New Scapula Mould Rose was looking into this. She needs to get ahold of Mama Sofia’s scapula and Ieuan will look into making a mould from it.
New Business
Kingdom Bid for May Crown 2016 This has been awarded to Vulcanfeldt.
Archery in Lionsdale Kenneth wants to see Lionsdale get TAMS. He has run a lot of events and we need more people available to do it. He’s willing to do what it takes to get people up to speed on that. Thanked HL
Jaqueline for all of her help! She points out that interest is growing, especially in local areas. Lionsdale now has a complete set of equipment.
12th Night Bid Sionnan asked if we ever did anything on this. Luther points out the site is the problem. Thora had looked into Harrison Hot Springs and tried for 9 months and they wanted $15,000 in spa treatments with our group guaranteed. If we could look for another site, there are people willing to do it. Luther
suggested Thornwood and doing it together in Bellingham.
Meeting Close Next Meeting: October 28, 2015 at Mission Springs at 7PM
Motion to Adjourn. Luther motioned, Lupo seconded. Started at 7:15, closed at 8:50.

A small word from the Event Steward for Odin's Playground 2015!
The day started off quite sunny and warm, I was happy to be introduced to our Seneschal's lovely parents, and their dog, as they dropped off the trailer for us. Once again many thank yous to them for making it so easy for us to have access to the Shire's stuff.
Conn, our gate person, showed up soon after and kept me company as we waited for the setup team to arrive.
Rose, Katya, Oak, Thora, Godfrey, Lupo, Elaina, thank you so very much. I could not have done this without your support. I know there are more people that I just can't think of right now, but know that I thank you so so much!
Saturday's sun rose behind a bank of fluffy fog, and the sounds of the populace waking up, and the scents of coffee and breakfast wafted over the battle field.
As I did my walk abouts, throughout the weekend, I was elated to see people having a great time.
At one point I was called to Gate to meet a member of the local press who had wandered onto site. He was to do a story at Planet Ice, but saw us, and thought it was a more exciting story. I took him around the site a bit, looking for our Tir Righ Seneschal – Porzia (thank you Godfrey for finally pointing her out to me LOL), who took over and because of her wonderful way with people, and two Rapier Fighters (Godfrey and Alessandra) allowing themselves to be photographed. There was a great little story in our local paper regarding the event, which I've already linked to on our Facebook page.
Sunday clean up went wonderfully well, with people helping people take down, and keeping an eye for items which have wandered away from their families. We are happy to announce the items that were left behind, had their families contacted and arrangements have been made for them to
So, once again, thank you very much to all those who helped, and The Shire of Lionsdale for allowing me to spearhead another Odin's.
Here are some notes from Oak and Thora:
Food was received well and there was an abundance. Many people did contribute to the potluck in goodamounts. I would like to move that the Shire of Lionsdale make a special thank you to Kinto on Facebook expressing the groups gratitude for the 20 lbs Spring Salmon which was enjoyed by all. I would also like to note that if we ever want to do a feast it the future that kitchen was a good size to do it in. I also would like to express thank yous to Glynis, Katya, Orianna, Magnus, and Kenzie for jumping in and helping with out being asked to. Every little bit helped a tremendous amount.
On the activities side of thing. Oak would like it known that Sarg from Lions Gate really stepped up to the plate to help with thrown weapons. Conn at gate went well. And while a number of people didn't show up to run the things they were supposed to other people stepped in suddenly and just about everything happened that was supposed to. The things missed were not missed to his knowledge by the populace. New games were played and received well. All in all it was a successful event from our end.
Oak and Thora
