Please note that on the weekends of July 21-22 and July 29-29, the Vigil (vesperal) Divine Liturgy will be served on Saturday evening at 6pm. On Sunday morning at 10am, the deacons will lead the Typika Service which is the Liturgy of the Word with the distribution of Holy Communion (that was reserved from Saturday evening). Participation in either Liturgy or Typika fulfills your Sunday obligation to attend Divine Services. The reason for this is because Fr. Elias will be in San Antonio to serve the Liturgy there at 1 :30pm on those two Sundays .

Pastoral Changes in the Southern States Protopresbyteral Region Summer is upon us and in our parishes and communiti es this season continues to be very busy. After the ordination of Fr. Deacon Tom Wells at the begining of June, Fr. D eacon Tomhas undertaken a few projects including the compiling of a survey to assess the human resources and gifts of our different communiti es in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma so that we may be better connected and mutually support each other in this Protopresbyterate. Fr. Deacon Tom is also visi ting and meeting the

communities in our region before he returns to Pittsburgh for his final year of seminary. Our sister parish of St. Basil the Great welcomed a new administrator lasi week in the person of Fr. Christopher Andrews OSB, who is on loan from his Benedictine Monastery. Fr. Christopher has enthusiastically embracel his new assignment and we look forward to welcoming him here in Houston very soon. Our San Antonio Community of St Anastasia of Rome will bid "adios " to their founder and priest, Fr. Ramon Gonzalez OP who will be transferred to the Dominican Parish in Memphis, TN beginning his pastorate there Aug. 1. Fr. Elias will be taking over responsibility for the community and at least for the month of August, the time and place for services will remain the same, that is Sundays at 1:30pm at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. During August, Fr. Elias will serve Liturgy zn San Antonio on Aug. 5 & 19 (Fr. Peter/Fr. Fadi will be at St. John 's), and the other two Sundays will be Typ ika served by Fr. Deacons Andrew and Jeff (Austin). Starting September 1, Vesperal Liturgy or Typi ka will be served on Saturdays . The entire Liturgi cal schedul e will be moved to Saturdays in order to serve the two communities. Fr. Elias will travel 2-3 times a month to San Antonio , with the deacons supplying the rest. The community will be moving to the northern side of San Antonio. Fr. Elias is negotiating with the Archdiocese of San Antonio for an appropriate site. The Austin Byza ntine Community will be served by Fr. Christopher from St. Basil 's Parish in Irving , TX beginning Aug. 1. The time and place for the Liturgy will not change at this point.

The Theosis Group will be on hiatus for July pending the reopening of the Social Hall/School in August. More informatior will follow by email and in the bulletin.

During the summer months as you travel please remember to send or drop your donation to St. John 's. Even though you may be away, as many others are also travelling, your pari sh is still here and we have to pay for AC as well as other expenses. Your support is needed and appreciated. Be assured that while you are away, you are prayed for and remembered in the Liturgies at your home parish, here at St. John Chrysos tom.

5:1.st Melkite National Convention- What a delight it was to participate In 'the Convention this year held in Houston. So many friends of our parish were present and expressed their greetings to all of us at St. John 's. Particularly moving was his Grace, Bishop Nicholas ' words of gratitude to our parish for helping get St. Barbara's Me/kite Mission started under Fr. Elias ' guidance for the first 3 years. After 6-and-a-half years St. Barbara 's finally purchased 4 acres of land as the future site of the Church of St. Barbara. What a joy it is for us, that we will have a sister Byzantine Parish here in Houston, joining us and Pokrova Ukrainian Catholic Church as three Parishes sharing the same spir itual and liturgical tradition of Christian Constantinople , but expressed in different nat ionalities . The process of building will take a few years but we look forward to supporting and praying for their success. May God richly bless you as you spread His Word here in our city and state! Mabrook ! Many years!

The conferences from the Me/kite Convention are available online and we will post a link to them fr om our website as soon as we can. Especially interes ting are the three conferences giv en by Abbot Nichola5 of Holy Resur rection Monastery in Wisconsin. Abbot Nicholas gave a series of talks here at St John's a Jew years ago as a part of our preparation for the Great Fast His conferen ces at the Convention address the topics of Evangelization through our Byzantine Christian Tradition and Faith.

After having been at Deacon Tom' s ordination , we realize t h a t the deaco n ' s ro l e is very importa n t an d we pray that God co nti nues to se nd us vocat i on s ! If you a r e co n s id er ing th e de a c ona te o r p ri esth oo d o r a mona s tic v ocatio n , plea se s p ea k wi th Fr , Eli as.

The Theosis Group will be on hiatus for July pending the reopen ing of the Social Hall/School in Augu st. More informatior will follow by emai l and in the bulletin .

SOCIAL HALL-The Social Hall will be closed for the next Sundays as work begins. The rain has complicated the demolition of the interior and we hope the the heavy work will begin on Monday . Due to the debr is and liability , no one is permitted w it hin th e hall until work is comp leted .

Next Sunday, July 15, immediately after the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Elias will bless cars, trucks, bikes, skates , etc .... anything that helps you get around, in honor of the Holy Great Prophet Elijah, whose feast we celebrate on July 20.
