Begats
KJV Matthew 1:2 Abraham Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his
brethren;
Matthew 1:1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the
son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac..
genealogy = genesisto come into existence.
begat = generate, parent of, how it began.
(Genesis in Matthew) 12:2 And I will make of you
(Abraham) a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your
name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses
you I will curse; and by you (priesthood) all the families of
the earth shall bless themselves."
PriesthoodMalachi 2:5 My covenant with him was a
covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him, that he might fear; and he feared me, he
stood in awe of my name. 6 True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and
he turned many from iniquity. 7 For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and men should
seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
So the begats begin with a man, Abraham, whose
significance rests with a priestly covenant and his
faithfulness to that covenant.
Romans 4:16 .. that the promise may rest on grace and be
guaranteed to all his descendants .. to those who share the faith of Abraham, for he is the father of us all, 17 as it is written, "I have
made you the father of many nations"
Galatians 3:14 that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles,
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Even the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is included in the blessing
of Abraham
2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob (Israel), and Jacob the
father of Judah and his brothers,
3 and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar
(a Canaanite gentile)Story in Genesis 38
Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he
comes to whom it belongs; and to him shall be the
obedience of the peoples.Messiah=Lion of Judah
4 and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab
the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of
Salmon, 5 and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab
(a Canaanite gentile harlot) Story in Joshua 2.
and Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of
David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by
the wife of Uriah,(Bathsheba)
Story in 2 Samuel 11-12
The kings of Judah (good and bad)
David was the father of Solomon the father of
Rehoboam, Abijah, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Joram, Uzziah,
Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amos, Josiah,
Jechoniah, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
And after the deportation to Babylon: Shealtiel,
Zerubbabel, Abiud, Eliakim, Azor, Zadok, Achim, Eliud,
Eleazar, Matthan, and Jacob the father of Joseph the
husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born,
who is called Christ.
Galatians 3:7 So you see that it is men of faith who are the
sons of Abraham.Christians, by being sons of
Abraham, enter into the very structure of this
genelogy/begats/toledotsIt is our heritage identity.
‘Folks Like Us’
Great expectations of Abraham.
Apparent fulfillment of David.
All seemingly lost in the deportation.
True goal is in Jesus.
Generations of ‘folks like us’ who live within the
promises and covenants and fail to live up to and within their privileges.
Remember Matthew 1: 2-16 next time someone asks you, ‘can God work with a person like me, or with a nation that
elects presidents like we have?
‘Folks like us.’
Where we come from matters!
We are products of two histories, one natural and one
supernatural.
In re-birth, we are grafted into another heritage, another
history.
Romans 11:17 .. You (gentiles), a wild olive shoot, were grafted in their (Hebrews) place to share the richness of the olive tree (heritage of
Abraham), 18 do not boast over the branches. If you do boast, remember it is not you that support the root, but the root that supports you. 19
You will say, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." 20 That is true. They were
broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast only through faith. So do not become
proud, but stand in awe.
What you start lives on in others. What God starts in His
family lives on in the membership of that family who
faiths the covenants and promises, even when
generations are skipped through unbelief (unfaithfulness).
Isaiah 42:6 "I am the LORD, I have called you in righteousness, I have
taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as. a covenant to
the people, a light to the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness
“This is not an answering machine, it is a questioning
machine. Who are you and
what do you want?” Most people go through their entire life without answering
either question.”
Genealogy and IdentityJust who are you?
What are you apart of?Who are your people?Who are they really?
From who are you born? What are you here for?
What is your destiny identity?
Isaiah 8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given
me are signs(direction signals)
and portents (wonders) in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount
Zion.(a covenant of light)
“The Bible too is like a questioning machine.
Who are you and what do you want?
Most people go through their entire life without answering
either question.”
But the Bible is also like an answering machine,
answering its questions. 2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the
promises of God find their Yes in Him (Jesus). That is why we utter
the Amen through Him, to the glory of God.
Makes no sense if we do not know the promises.
There is only one way to join this family, and that is to marry (be
grafted) in as a bride.
In this sense to marry is to change families,
to enter-graft into another heritage and identity.
Marrying is different from dating, and different from
believing (acknowledging a reality), it is joining to belong to
one another where life is mutually shared and He,
not you, is Lord.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they
become one flesh.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that
whoever (folks like us) believes (marries-grafts) in Him should not
perish but have eternal life.
It is exceedingly important that we minister, hold and live the Hebrew
concept of faith-marriage as opposed to the Greek concept of
belief-consent.
Ephesians 2:12 remember that you (gentiles) were at that time
separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of
promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought
near in the blood (life) of Christ.Merry Christmas
“The Bible is not just an answering machine, it is a questioning machine.
Who are you and what do you want?
The Bible is also like an answering machine, answering its own
questions.
Either way it required our hearkening!
