LMCI invests over $35 million annually in training workers . And when you consider the
caliber of worker that is demanded in todays specialty marketplace, its an essential
investment. Examples of specialty training include:
Green Building Awareness Program Addresses concerns about bid specifications
and methodologies for winning proposals. The program offer s a two and one-half
day educational seminar on the Basics of Sustainability, Interpretation of Green Bid
Specifications and LEED Accreditation Professional Examination Preparation.
Industrial Applicator Program A three-year, 432 hours related instruction and 6 ,000
hours on-the-job training help meet the requirements for qualified application specialist;
set forth in the SSPC ACS-1/NACE 13 standard TG 320 Industrial Coating and Lining
Application Specialist Qualification and Certification. Students will add to their blaster/
applicator skills and learn about the corrosion protection of steel and concrete on complex
industrial struc tures through course work in surface preparation and coating materials,
properties and application. This program is delivered by professional instructors of the
Finishing Trades Institute .
SSPC C3/C5/C7 Program Training for SSPC C-3 Lead Paint Removal, C-5 Lead Paint
Removal Refresher and C-7 Abrasive Blasting is now available to contractors. The
course reviews protecting workers ; compliance with environmental regulations; proper
management of waste streams and operations that result in potential exposures to lead;
and associated control technology. Plus, theres an update of relevant EPA regulations andprogress through discussions of 29 CFR 1926.62 and changes in the Respiratory Protection
Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The C-7 programs primary focus is the certification of the
blasters who demonstrate proper blasting techniques during the hands-on session.
NACE Pipeline Program LMCI and NACE International have collaborated to provide
training and qualification to address the Operator Qualification (OQ) Rule for the oil &
natural gas pipelines industry. The NACE International Operator Qualification Program
provides training and qualifications for many corrosion and coating tasks. This program is
delivered by professional instructors of the Finishing Trades Institute.
Sponsored Education Program The LMCI sponsors non-bargaining unit personnel of our
participating employers to attend Train-the-Trainer Programs held at the International
Training Center (ITC). These programs cover a wide selec tion of Health and Safety,
Technical and Trade Skill topics and may qualify attendees to instruct the courses after

the FCA and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), speaker s and
workshops address key industry issues.
Labor Management Roundtables Meets in four different regions across the USA and
Canada. These open forums offer a frank exchange of views about market share and
workplace performance and other important industry issues.
Regional Industry Liaisons The LMCI Industry Liaisons serve as ambassadors to the
industry. Among their many responsibilities they per form the following: (1) Facilitated
Pre-jobs on national agreement projects; (2) Assist with the Finishing Industry Forum; (3)
Host the Mutual Gains Bargaining Seminar; (4) Par ticipate in Industry Labor Management

Partnership Grant Program Annual grants of up to $5,000 per local area foster improved

Advisory Services At the request of Labor or Management the LMCI will assemble
a team consisting of staff, IUPAT general staff and an FCA contractor representative to

for local area labor management teams to develop a mar ket expansion program.
Mini-Roundtables The LMCI Mini-Roundtable meetings are designed to allow the local
area unions and employers to meet at an open forum to address local industry issues.
Technical Assistance Representatives (TARs) These LMCI craft specific employees
coordinate a team effort with the IUPAT affiliated funds, FCA and regional vice-presidents
to coordinate all the LMCI programs. They are instrumental in developing relationships
in their industry by meeting with non-signatory contractor s and showing the Value of
being affiliated with the LMCI and its parent organizations, IUPAT and FCA. The TARs
make industry-specific recommendations for marketing and produce editorials for trade
publications in their industry.
