• Local Government Management Certificate (LGMC)• For City, County and other Local Government Officials• Provides exposure to and training in ten core public
management competencies• Professional development tool for current staff to
improve skills required for success in local government management positions
• May use a combination of professional development training sources to meet criteria

• Oregon city and county managers/administrators• Department heads• Mid-level managers/supervisors• Assistants, recorders, and analysts• Recent graduates new to local government• Managers/administrators new to Oregon• Employees wishing to move into local government

How do I meet the Certification Requirements?

• OLLI Workshops• minimum of six workshops required
• Other training in core areas • must provide proof of attendance and
content • can use previously attended workshops as
far back as 1/1/2007• Experience
• Must have at least 3 years experience in a specific core area (within last 10 years)
• Core must have been primary job responsibility in local government
• Example – Finance Director for at least 3 years
• Graduate level coursework (within last 10 years)• limited to 5 hours per core area

Total hours for certification are: 140
1. Budget/Finance 20 hours
2. Human Resource Management 20 hours
3. Public Safety and Emergency Management Services 10 hours
4. Public Works and Utilities Management 15 hours
5. Land Use Planning and Economic Development 15 hours
6. Public Contracting and Purchasing 10 hours
7. Community Relations 10 hours
8. Risk Management 10 hours
9. Elected Official/Manager Competencies 15 hours
10. Ethics & Leadership 15 hours

How does it work?
1.Complete Entry Application
2.LOC confirms past OLLI workshop hours in core areas (beginning 1/1/2007)
3.LOC begins tracking progress toward certification
4.Submit all non-OLLI training/education and experience to be evaluated for credit

Step 2: LOC confirms past LOC training credit hours
If you have attended courses through O.L.L.I. within the last three years – we will confirm your applicable credit hours via email .*To receive certification through LOC's Local Government Management Certification program, each candidate must complete at least six core area workshops (of the applicant's choosing) through the Oregon Local Leadership Institute. The purpose of this requirement is to give certificate candidates exposure to management nuances that are unique to Oregon.
