LONDON...it’s definitely worth a trip!

London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, finance and tourism, all contributing to its prominence. The residence of the British monarchy is located in the heart of London, Buckingham Palace, where the present monarch, Queen Elizabeth II and her family undertake official, ceremonial and representational duties.

Traveling a few miles towards the East you'll get to Greenwich. Even though it's not big, it's world-famous, because of the Prime Meridian, running through it.The Tower of London; Kew Gardens; Westminster Abbey and Palace of Westminster are all historical buildings and places that have existed for many years and are considered world heritage sites.

When thinking of London, many people imagine a grey and dirty city made from concrete and asphalt. To their surprise, London has more than 300 parks and open spaces and is seen as one of the world’s greenest

capitals, thus keeping up with the English tradition of gardening. However, it's not only parks like Hyde Park, Regents Park, St. James’ Park and Victoria Park, that offer an escape from the rush of city life, but there is also a widespread system of canals. These can be easily missed if you don't look out for them. Why not visit them, they are a great destination for an afternoon trip.

The canals and the River Thames supported human activity throughout history, by providing habitation, food, drinking water and water power. The Thames acted as a major highway through the Port of London for international trade. The river divides London into North and South, the former having traditionally been more residential, whereas the latter has consisted mostly of farmland.

As a whole, London is home to over 7,825,200 people with around 300 different languages been spoken. Consequently, the city is a hub for many cultures and religions and linguistically the most diverse city in the

world. In addition to that, it's attractive to people who want to learn another language or explore the mix of cultures. The best place to experience diversity are markets, such as Camden, where you'll find punks, goths, hippies and.... a lot of tourists. In Brick Lane on the other hand, a market in East London, you will see a lot of arty people. The streets are clustered with graffiti and art galleries. Yet, London is not only a centre for the visual arts, it's also attracting musicians, whether they are busking in subway stations or members of professional bands or orchestras. Furthermore you there is loads of popular entertainment such as clubs, theaters and musical halls waiting for you.

Finally there is one more activity, that should not be missed. It is, guess what: shopping. From Harrods in Knightsbridge to Oxford Circus ind the city centre, even if you do not have enough money to go shopping there, it is worth seeing these locations.
