Page 2: Loop SUMMER MONTHLY: June 2014

Spiritual growth and change happen when we’re in relationships with people who know us well. Connecting with others at Second Baptist is a way to build community and be transformed in your faith. The best way to connect is to jump in.

The 2BC Monthly LOOP is the same Loop you’ve come to count on, just newly formatted to keep you clearly informed of the opportunities available at 2BC for the coming month. You’ll find information about upcoming events, classes, and serving opportunities to get you connected to 2BC. Keep this as a reference all month long so you can jump in often!

The 2BC Monthly LOOP, as well as it’s smaller counterpart, the Weekly LOOP, will be handed out along with your Sunday morning Worship guide. With the Monthly version appearing on the last Sunday of every month. If you miss the Sunday we handed out the full monthly edition, you can still pick up a copy all month long in the Welcome Center or online at 2bcliberty.org/newsletters.

Life Together retreat

What happens to faith when “religion” becomes a bad word? When there are more unaffiliated Americans than there are Roman Catholics, mainline Protestants, orevangelical Protestants? Everything changes, that’s what happens.

Join Diana Butler Bass, author of Christianity After Religion, for a weekend of thinking about the world outside of church, looking at trends and topics that are influencing our own spiritual lives and our communities of faith.

HONORING ANN POSEY | June 29 | 4:00 p.m.At the end of March, Ann Posey celebrated 35 years as organist at Second Baptist Church. On a cold, snowy Sunday we recognized Ann in the service, gave her a plant, and presented her a check from the church in appreciation for her long ministry among us. On Sunday, June 29, the church will again honor Ann with a reception in the Social Room. And because Ann is such a wonderful musician and a great encourager of other musicians, many of her friends will give a recital in her honor at 4 pm. The reception will follow. Recital participants will be performing music that they might not normally have the opportunity to perform in worship. Questions? Contact Allan Aunspaugh at [email protected]

Children’s Ministry : Summer InternMeet Angela Powell, our summer intern with Gwen in the children’s ministry! Angela comes through the Collegiate Church Internship program with CBF and will begin her duties the end of May.

Angela is a recent graduate of Central Baptist Theological Seminary and resides in Lee’s Summit with her family. Her husband, Keith, is with American Family Insurance and they have two children. Kierra is a college graduate and will soon begin law school. Kyndall just completed his freshman year in college and is there on a basketball scholarship. Angela also has a 2 year old granddaughter, Mari. Angela loves spending time with her family. They are big sports fans and love eating together! In her free time, Angela enjoys reading and loves to write. Her church home is Concord Fortress of Hope.

We look forward to integrating Angela into the life of 2BC this summer. You will see her involved in Camp Connect, Vacation Bible School…and the list goes on! Make her feel welcome as you get acquainted!

ANNOUNCEMENT | Church Offices Closed on Fridays during the Summer Months The Personnel Committee has authorized Church offices to be closed on Fridays during the summer weeks between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Due to staff mission trips, sabbaticals, seminars, CBF meeting and other events this summer, the church office was going to be understaffed on Fridays this summer and the decision was made to close the church offices on Fridays. The closing of the offices will have an added benefit of all staff members being here on the same days during the week which will make them easier to contact and improve communication between staff members. Also, we can hopefully reduce energy costs by being able to set thermostats to a “closed” status. During Vacation Bible School and any other major scheduled event during the summer, the office will be open as usual. The answering machine with the emergency connection to the minister on call will be active on Fridays just as it is on weekends and after regular office hours. If you have an emergency or need to talk to the minister on call on a Friday, call the office at 781-2824 and when prompted dial 2. The minister on call will return your call as soon as possible.
