“ Achievement is outstanding because every student matters” Ofsted 2013
We are tremendously proud of our results at
Victory and, above all, we are committed to
ensuring our Sixth Form students embrace
every opportunity to prepare for a life which
is successful, productive and aspirational.
It matters greatly to us that our Sixth Form
students have a role in our academy -
learning together shapes lives for the better.
We have developed a range of leadership
opportunities ranging from a university-
style Student Union to an excellent range of
opportunities to engage in voluntary work
with younger students. Our enrichment
programme offers an impressive range
of activities to cater for all tastes.
Our new building and facilities offer even
more resources and learning experiences to
our community, including bespoke seminar
rooms, a lecture theatre and a world-class
sports hall.
Whether you are an existing student at
Victory or you are considering joining us
from another school, I urge you to read
Ofsted’s report (May 2013) which graded
all aspects of our Academy to be
‘outstanding’ – a testament to you of
how much we value each and every
member of our learning community.
But we won’t stop there. At Victory, we
intend on continuing to offer a world class
experience and that means we need to offer
even more to our families and enrich every
learning experience.
We’d love to see you at our annual
information evening, but feel free
to contact us to arrange a visit at
a different time.
Join us for the voyage!

Sociology A Level
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. Sociology’s subjects are diverse, ranging from crime to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, and from social stability to radical change in whole societies. Unifying the study of these diverse subjects of study is sociology’s purpose of understanding how human action and consciousness both shape and are shaped by surrounding cultural and social structures.
Sociology is an exciting and illuminating field of study that analyses and explains important matters in our personal lives, our communities, and the world. At the personal level, sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as romantic love, racial and gender identity, family conflict, deviant behaviour, aging, and religious faith. At the societal level, sociology examines and explains matters like crime and law, poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, schools and education, business firms, urban community, and social movements. At the global level, sociology studies such phenomena as population growth and migration, war and peace, and economic development.
Students who have been well trained in sociology know how to think critically about human social life, and how to ask important research questions. They know how to design good social research projects, carefully collect and analyse data, and create and present their research findings. Students trained in sociology also know how to help others understand the way the social world works and how it might be changed for the better. Most generally, they have learned how to think, evaluate, and communicate clearly, creatively, and effectively. These are all abilities of tremendous value in a wide variety of vocational callings and professions.
Sociology offers a distinctive and enlightening way of seeing and understanding the world in which we live. Sociology looks beyond normal, taken-for-granted views of reality, to provide
deeper, more illuminating and challenging understandings of social life. Through its particular analytical perspective, social theories, and research methods, sociology is a discipline that expands our awareness and analysis of the human social relationships, cultures, and institutions that profoundly shape both our lives and human history.
