Bondurant Couple Claims $202.1 Million Powerball Jackpot From Sept. 26 Drawing A Bondurant couple claimed a $202.1 million Powerball® jackpot on Oct. 4, becoming the second-biggest lottery winners in Iowa history. Mary and Brian Lohse said they had done their homework in advance by meeting with financial planners and had some very specific plans for the future as they claimed their big prize. And of course our kids and ourselves - we want to make sure the kids are taken care of, so that we don’t necessarily have to work 40 hours a week the rest of our lives.” e couple described the feeling of knowing that they will be able to help the Bondurant Federated Church where they are members and the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District where their children are students. “God has certainly blessed us with more than we will ever need, and with the oppor- tunity to do the good things in life and to do good for other people,” Brian Lohse said. “So, that’s our plan.” “We are still the same people that we were a week ago.” – Mary Lohse Continued on Page 3 Game End and Validation End Dates Official Game End Valid Period Ends 718 Spades 10/1/12 12/31/12 733 Spooky Loot 10/1/12 12/31/12 746 Great State Tailgate 10/1/12 12/31/12 656 Crossword-Blue/Green 8/6/12 11/5/12 660 Bingo Night-Purp./Green 8/6/12 11/5/12 696 Reindeer Bingo 8/6/12 11/5/12 705 Diamond Dash 8/6/12 11/5/12 708 Give Me $20 8/6/12 11/5/12 710 Raining Cash & Dogs 8/6/12 11/5/12 715 333 8/6/12 11/5/12 719 Money $ee Money Do 8/6/12 11/5/12 721 Ruby Riches 8/6/12 11/5/12 722 Tic Tac 2s 8/6/12 11/5/12 Players with nonwinning holiday scratch tickets can Play It Again™ and enter the Winter of Winners promotion. ey have until noon on Nov. 12 to enter the first drawing in the promotion, which will award 100 winners a $250 Bass Pro Shops® giſt card. at drawing will be held on Nov. 14, and there will be two more drawings in the promotion: one on Dec. 14 for 40 winners of home-entertainment systems and one on Jan. 14 for 10 winners of trip packages to e Palms™ in Las Vegas. Brian Lohse, who had been out of town at the time, laughed as he remembered his initial reaction when his wife called him on Sept. 27 to share the news that they had won big.

“I just figured she was playing a joke,” he said. “And she was carrying it quite far, but that’s not necessarily unusual. She put her boss on and she tried to convince me as well, and I just figured I was being punked.”

Mary Lohse said she bought just two Powerball plays on Sept. 26, the date of the drawing in which they won the jackpot.

“I was just filling up with gas on my way to work, and I usually do that once a week and that’s when I usually buy a couple tickets,” she said.

The next morning, she heard on the news that there was a Powerball jackpot winner in Iowa, and noticed that her ticket seemed to have at least some of the winning numbers. She then checked for sure once she had arrived at work.

“I was shaking so bad, I figured I should not be there giving children shots and stuff, so I lied and said that I had a sick child - which I have since apologized to them for - and left, and called him,” she said as she smiled at Brian.

The couple said they plan to stay in the Bondurant com-munity with their three children.

“I don’t know how you’re supposed to react,” Mary Lohse said calmly as their claimed their prize. “I don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing. That’s what everybody keeps saying, ‘You should be doing flips!’ But I’ll have somebody else do them for me.”

The Lohses’ jackpot-winning ticket was one of four in Iowa to win big prizes in lotto drawings on Sept. 26. Tickets winning the jackpot, a $1 million prize and a $10,000 prize

all were won by Iowa Lottery players that night in Powerball, while a ticket winning the top prize of $100,000 hit in Iowa’s $100,000 Cash Game.

Three of those winning tickets now have been claimed. But the $1 million-winning ticket from that night purchased in Williamsburg remains unclaimed.

Mary Lohse purchased the jackpot-winning winning ticket at: Casey’s General Store, 1455 Grant St. in Bondurant.

Casey’s will receive two bonuses totaling $11,000 from the Iowa Lottery for the win-ning tickets: $10,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, and $1,000 for selling the $1 million-winning ticket in Williamsburg.

Powerball jackpot winners can choose to receive their prizes in annuitized payments over time or as a one-time, lump-sum payment. The Lohses chose to receive the prize as the lump-sum option of $129.8 million.

Some Tickets Can be Cancelled and Retailers Get Weekly AllowanceHere’s a review for retailers regarding which games’ tickets can be cancelled and which ones cannot, plus an overview of the Ticket Allowance Program.

Which Games Can Be Cancelled?

Tickets from the $100,000 Cash Game, Pick 3 and Pick 4 games can be can-celled, but there are some rules to follow when can-celling. Tickets must be cancelled the same day in the same store where they were sold and before the sales cutoff time for the game

Follow this procedure to cancel a lotto ticket:

• Touch the “Cash/Cancel” tab on the main screen

• Touch “Cancel Ticket”

• Scan the bar code on the ticket using the docu-ment scanner or the bar code reader. You may also manually enter the numbers using the keypad, then touch “OK” to accept the serial number and submit it for cancellation.

Which Games Can’t Be Cancelled?

You will NOT be able to cancel plays for the Powerball, Hot Lotto or Mega Millions games.

If you run one of these tickets through the terminal, you will receive a prompt informing you that the ticket is not eligible to be cancelled. This includes jammed or misprinted tickets.

Automatic Additional 0.1 Percent Allowance

The Iowa Lottery now issues to all retailers an addi-tional 0.1 percent of ALL lotto games sales added to the base commission rate of 5.5 percent each week. The 0.1 percent applies to all lotto games, not just the games that cannot be cancelled.

You will earn extra commission every week, even when you don’t have any error tickets. And you can sell non-damaged tickets to another customer.

Bondurant Couple Claims $202.1 Million Powerball Jackpot From Sept. 26 DrawingA Bondurant couple claimed a $202.1 million Powerball® jackpot on Oct. 4, becoming the second-biggest lottery winners in Iowa history. Mary and Brian Lohse said they had done their homework in advance by meeting with financial planners and had some very specific plans for the future as they claimed their big prize.

Mary Lohse, 42, a certified medical assistant at the pedi-atric clinic at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, said that the way the couple explained their win to their three chil-dren best encapsulates their plans as they move forward.

“We are still the same people that we were a week ago,” she said she explained to her children. “And when

your dad and I got married, we had dreams for things we wanted to do for our kids and, you know, have a boat and that kind of stuff. And we’re going to do all that now, but we’re still the same people that we were yesterday.”

Brian Lohse, 43, an attorney at EMC Insurance in Des Moines, said the couple has formed the KJH Family, LLC,

to claim the prize and handle the money moving ahead.

“We have a plan to help our church and our community and the school,” he said. “We’re going to set up different structures to do that, financial structures to be able to do that. And of course our kids and ourselves - we want to make sure the kids are taken care of, so that we don’t necessarily have to work 40 hours a week the rest of our lives.”

The couple described the feeling of knowing that they will be able to help the Bondurant Federated Church where they are members and the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District where their children are students.

“God has certainly blessed us with more than we will ever need, and with the oppor-tunity to do the good things in life and to do good for other people,” Brian Lohse said. “So, that’s our plan.”

“We are still the same people that we were a week ago.” – Mary Lohse
