Virtue of the Month: LOVE
Loving God,
You created us to love one another and to love you. Indeed, you
declared, “A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put
within you.” Give us new hearts, warm hearts, lively spirits, ready
spirits, so that we can love one another as you have loved us.
Help us to put aside anything that will turn our heart to stone; old
resentments, grudges, worn-out fears, or distrust. In gathering
together we need a new heart. Create this willing spirit within
each of us. Amen
Mon Dieu,
Donnez-moi la sérenité d’accepter les choses que je ne puis
changer, Le courage de changer les choses que je peux, et la s
agesse d’en connaitre la difference. Amen
February 26th marks the start of the Lenten calendar with Ash
Wednesday. Many churches in Canada hold special Ash
Wednesday
services for their congregations. It is a time when people who seek
penitence for their wrongdoings are marked with the sign of the
cross, from blessed ashes, on their forehead. This symbolic
occasion reminds people of their mortality and sorrow for sins, as
well as the will for change and the hope of forgiveness.

BEHAVIOUR CODE The focus of the approach and attitude towards student discipline lies in the development of the Christian dimension and self-discipline of each child at St. Gabriel Lalemant C.S. The co-operation of home, school and Church will ensure progressive achievement towards these goals. We expect students to follow the 3R’s –
Be Respectful of Self Be Respectful of others Be Responsible for their Actions
Anaphylaxis and Allergens It is our responsibility to inform you that there are staff and students in our school with severe life- threatening food allergies to all types of nuts and some seafood. This is a medical condition (anaphylaxis) that causes a severe reaction and can result in death within minutes. As this affects the entire school community, we are requesting that you not send any lunches or snacks with your child to school that contain the allergen, e.g. peanuts/nuts, tuna. This includes Nutella.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND FOOD FOR YOUR CHILD’S CLASS FOR BIRTHDAYS OR SPECIAL OCCASIONS.
You may contact your child’s teacher for alternate options other than food. Please make sure that all caregivers are also aware of the food restrictions. Ms. Shaloufe-Sanchez’s Message
January and February is a good time for students to reflect on goal-setting; looking at what they have already done well, and planning for what they would still like to accomplish by the end of the school year. In anticipation of the Term 1 report card, a focus on the Learning Skills continues to be encouraged for students of all grades. The online platform https://myblueprint.ca has excellent resources for students to create and reflect on goals for both academic and personal purposes. https://myblueprint.ca/support/resources/education-planner/LSeAJ1TjmEG6yMQkMqY2m/ I have included a couple of resources here that

Scientist in School! How Cool! On Monday January 13th the grade 4 class had a scientist come to the class. As the class reported from multiple students… “It was a day we were made into physicists and worked at five different stations. We were in groups as we worked at the first station which was with gears. Here we learned how gears operate. At the second station we worked with some more gears. At the third station we worked with some different gears, one being the worm gear. The fourth station we worked with pulleys, fixed pulleys and movable pulleys. At the last station we learned about pulleys and mechanical advantages. We were certain that pulleys and gears make our lives easier. It was an awesome, hands on experience! “ -various Grade 4 students Through fundraising activities, these programs are brought free of charge to the students ($205). We appreciate your participation in pizza lunches and special fundraising events. -G. Iafrate, Principal

Stereotypes: I Am Not Your Expectations Cardinal Carter Catholic School of the Arts
This is a dramatic presentation that includes elements of dance, multi-media and spoken word to engage young people in thinking critically about issues connected to stereotyping and prejudice. The dialogue in the presentation’s two dramatized scenarios highlights stereotypes and prejudices about individuals of African descent and demonstrates the harmful and painful outcomes of social stigmatization. Inspiration for the content included in the play was taken from contributions made by a group of 20 Victoria Park C.I. students in a candid discussion about stereotypes and includes popular slang used by young Torontonians, making it accessible for youthful audiences and heightening engagement.
