The existing fittings comprised 64 high bay fittings with HPS 400 watt lamps and ballasts. The lamps were at varying levels of degradation and in urgent need of replacement. OUR APPROACH In order to deliver a cost-effective solution we always adopt a simple design principle which essentially states: we supply the required levels of light in all the right places at all the right times, using the minimum possible energy consumption. THE SOLUTION The best available solution was to specify our latest generation of INTER GREEN 150 watt LED High Bay Fittings with a colour temperature of 5000K (daylight white). These fittings are supported by a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty and include high quality LED and PSU components. We recommended a ‘one for one’ replacement formula which meant replacing every single 400 watt HPS high bay (which consumes 470 circuit watts) with a 150 watt LED high bay.

LSN Diffusion - 100,000 sq ft factory

THE OUTCOME The annual energy savings of 75,487 kWh resulting from the new lighting scheme translated into 36.99 MT of CO2 emissions. Given that LSN is a Welsh based SME this meant that the company was eligible to apply for an interest free loan from The Carbon Trust.

The perceived brightness of the factory improved significantly and the night shift workforce commented that they could now see what they were doing!

An application for an interest free loan was approved by The Carbon Trust and the cost of the new fittings was fully financed by the loan. Summary of Key Benefits Payback = 2.31 years Investment in new LED fittings = £22,685 Annual reduction in power consumption = 75,487 kWh Annual reduction in CO2 emissions = 36.99 MT Annual reduction in cost of electricity = £9,820

The effective spread of light from the LED high bays can be seen by observing the shadow cast by the gantry and the well illuminated floor area

LED High Bays with 120 degree beam angle provide an excellent spread of light with higher levels of reflection and perceived brightness
