Dubrovnik is a city of beauty, harmony, and material and spiritual wealth that has been created over centuries. In Dubrovnik we can

boast historic achievements in the fields of literature, the arts, diplomacy and science, an exceptionally exciting present, as well as a promising and developing future in every sense of the word, that will inspire you to come back to Dubrovnik over and over again.

Dubrovnik has great experience in implementing energy efficiency projects in public lighting using modern technologies, comparing them and choosing the best solution.

It is famous for its sustainable lighting project in the ancient city core, where the experience and devoted work of different actors in this renowned UNESCO heritage site has resulted in several breath-taking lighting projects, giving a new look to the heretofore hidden beauty of the city walls at night.

I will be very happy to welcome you to Dubrovnik for the LUCI Annual General Meeting in November 2014. I strongly believe you will enjoy a unique lighting experience in Dubrovnik!

LUCIAnnual General Meeting

5th to 9th November 2014

A fter South America in 2012 and Asia last year, LUCI is back in Europe for its 2014 Annual General Meeting that we are very pleased to hold

in the magnificent city of Dubrovnik.

After a year full of activities, projects and events, this AGM will be the occasion to reflect on the network’s progress and evolution. It will also open new perspectives in terms of governance, with the renewal of our Executive Committee and the change of LUCI Presidency.

As the international forum on cities and lighting, the AGM will offer many spaces for participants to exchange their ideas, knowledge and experiences. The Open Conference sessions will be, in particular, a unique opportunity for LUCI cities to showcase their most recent lighting initiatives.

Finally, this AGM will be an exceptional occasion to discover Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, and the positive impact of its lighting strategy, which has not only enhanced its heritage sites but also supported energy efficiency, reduced light pollution and improved the quality of life.

I would like to thank the City of Dubrovnik for hosting this Annual General Meeting 2014 and look forward to seeing all LUCI members there!

Martine De ReggePresident of LUCI Deputy Mayor of Ghent

Lighting the Pearl of the AdriaticDiscover how the City of Dubrovnik and its UNESCO classified old city core uses light to promote its heritage in the most sustainable way.

With its lighting master plan, launched in 2009 and implemented in close collaboration with architectural conservators, Dubrovnik has reinforced its identity as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” and enhanced its historical centre.

The lighting master plan has also enabled energy savings of up to 66% and a significant reduction in light pollution. The City of Dubrovnik is now looking towards the future with several LED pilots and the completion of the illumination of the city walls.

Issues and perspectives for energy efficient lightingLearn about some of the innovative and sustainable lighting solutions developed in cities in Croatia and the region.

Presentations will include the LED replacement scheme of the Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) city centre, as well as the renovation of the lighting network of Pula (Croatia) and the illumination of eight monumental cranes in its shipyard. It will also feature lighting projects in the Croatian cities of Karlovac, Šibenik and Velika Gorica.

LUCI Open Conference sessionsJoin in the international forum of city lighting initiatives and projects at the LUCI Open Conference sessions.

From master planning to festivals, through to smart lighting and innovative technologies, all topics related to outdoor lighting will be addressed in this unique event.
