high school students interested in agriculture and natural resources.
Graduate Guest Lectures. Texas A&M University: Have presented guest lectures on an annual basis in
the graduate level courses - Landscape Analysis and Modeling (RLEM 635), Ecology of
Shrubs and Shrublands (RLEM 619), and Range and Forest Watershed Management (RLEM
603).
Range Vegetation Analysis, Utah State University: This undergraduate course emphasized techniques
and interpretation of vegetation sampling on native rangelands. I was solely responsible for
course content, including lectures and laboratories.
Range Improvements, Utah State University: This undergraduate course emphasized brush control,
reseeding practices, distribution of grazing animals and traditional range management
techniques.
3
Range Survey, University of Wyoming: This course was similar to Vegetation Analysis, but included a
review of historic sampling techniques and agency procedures.
Range Planning, University of Wyoming: This was the capstone course in the undergraduate
curriculum requiring each student to make a detailed management plan for an operating ranch.
Administrative Experience
Department Head, Natural Resource Ecology & Management, Oklahoma State University. Worked with
a new department to merge 28 faculty members from 3 different departments and 3 Wildlife
Cooperative Research Unit faculty into a single department. Responsible for curriculum,
research and Extension programs for this multifaceted department with over 220 undergraduate
students and 65 graduate students with an annual budget of about $4M. Also responsible for
faculty development and promotion.
Administrative Assistant, Range Science Department, Utah State University. I worked closely with
Dr. Don Dwyer, and later with Dr. John Malechek, to manage budgets, prepare reports and
assist with the daily operation and long range planning of an academic department.
Project Leader, Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. Responsibilities include managing a state-
allocated budget, generating grant funds, supervising research technicians and research
associates, numerous temporary and part-time positions as well as graduate students and
student workers. In addition, I served as project leader on collaborative grants involving
scientists, agency personnel, Extension specialists, and local ranchers.
Tenure and Promotion Committee, Texas A&M University System. Participated for 8 years as a
member of the departmental tenure and promotion committee which evaluated all teaching,
research and extension faculty. Also participated as a member of the College-wide Committee
which evaluated promotion and tenure applications from the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences.
Search Committee member. Participated in faculty search committees at University of Wyoming, Utah
State University, and Texas A&M University (16, including Department Head Search
Committee).
