Not only did we have the thrill of having an arcle in The Sydney Morning Herald, but also the stunning photo of our students was selected as one of the top Fairfax photos of the week. The photographer really did capture a magic moment in the autumn leaves as well as the joy and warmth of our students. We agree that it deserved special recognion. Thank you to parents for giving their me this week for parent- teacher interviews. We really value the extra insight you offer about your children, but we especially love sharing our observaons about the fabulous young people we have the pleasure to teach. Stage three students are already geng excited at the prospect of camp in Term 4. We have been receiving payments already, which shows the high enthusiasm we all have to get out and about on excursions again. Watch out Canberra! The rain was pouring down…..

Leya and her dog Max were in their tree house, which was 1 kilometre away from her home. The rain had soaked everything in sight. There were water falls everywhere. The sound was deafening. Leya’s long blonde curly hair was soaked because the roof of her tree house leaked.

Leya was starting to panic, the rain had shown no sign of stopping. She started crying, she had now lost her dog and he could be anywhere, he could have drowned in the flood. She then heard a bark and a person calling, “Leya, Leya!”

She called out, “here!” and the person who was calling her name found her. It was her Dad and he was with Max! Max had saved her! After that, Leya and Max lived with lots of other adventures.

by Matilda Parents, you don’t always need to entertain

your kids – boredom is good for them

Most Australian children are spending more time at home due to the outbreak of COVID-19. They need to find ways to socialise, exercise and entertain themselves.

It’s not surprising parents may be hearing “I’m bored” a lot more than before.

But while boredom causes temporary uncomfortable feelings, it can be good for us in many ways - from stimulating creativity to helping train our concentration.

MVPS Health & Wellbeing Series: Living Well

MVPS School Counsellor, Leonie, shares useful strategies to maintain good mental health during this unprecedented time.

A warm greeting to all families at MVPS.

Firstly, a big congratulations on being featured in the Sydney

Morning Herald – that’s a true testament to how the

community at MVPS thrive despite the circumstances. I am

honoured to be part of this school and community!

Following on from my last newsletter piece, I’d like to share

with you all how to practice self-care during this time of

transition and how to achieve overall positive mental health.

Tip 2: Practice Self-Care

To help encourage a positive frame of mind, it is important

to look after yourself. Everybody practises self-care

differently with some examples including:

Maintaining good social connections and communicating

openly with family and friends. Start by asking them how

they are coping with the current changes.

Making time for activities and hobbies you enjoy, recall

my topic on ‘flow’ last term.

Keeping up a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet,

exercising regularly and importantly getting quality

sleep.

Practising relaxation, meditation and mindfulness to give

your body a chance to settle and readjust to a calm

state.

Tune in later this term where I’ll be sharing another

tip to support you in this time of adjusting to a

‘new normal’.

Until then, stay safe and well!

Kind regards,

Leonie

MVPS School Counsellor
