News From Mrs. Burn'sDesk

The Louisiana Legislature passeda bill this summer requiring all JuniorHigh students to wear a picture ID.MJH offered a provisional period during

the first quarter to assimilate students to the ID routinesand procedures. If a student arrives at school withouttheir proper ID, they must report to the office to receive atemporary ID that costs $1. The student will receive a“No ID” mark each time that they arrive at school withouttheir ID. This is a six step discipline process: reminder, warning, lunch detention, two days lunch detention, afterschool detention, and in school suspension. A studentcan buy a replacement ID for $5.

If a student arrives to school with the ID andremoves the ID once they are in class, each teacher hasan “ID Detention Form” that is separate from the otherdetention process. This process has three steps:reminder, warning, detention. Please encourage yourchild to develop responsible ID routines by putting theirID into their book bag at the end of each day.

Students in Mr. Cefalu's Talented Theatre Class perform apatriotic rap at the MJH Veteran's Day Program.

PTA NEWS

From Our PTA PresidentI had a brilliant idea for a president’s column this

month, but I couldn’t put it into words properly. Instead, Ithought I’d just take a moment, in this season ofconsidering the good in our lives, to talk about what I’mthankful for this year.

I’m thankful for my family and friends, the people in mylife from all walks, colors, creeds and opinions of life, whomake my days richer. I’m thankful that the St. TammanyParish school system has helped nurture my childrenalong as they are becoming the amazing people they are.

I’m thankful for Mr. Kern and all the faculty and staffand Madisonville Jr High for providing the environment toallow for that development, and for warmly welcoming mewhen I assumed the position of president for MJH PTA.

I’m grateful to PTA, at the district and state levels, aswell as at both Madisonville and Lancaster ElementarySchools, for allowing me the opportunity to follow mypassion for working with and for children and theireducation.

And I’m grateful to all of you, the parents, teachers, staff and students at MJH, for your support of both MJHand MJH PTA. This isn’t the school it is without you. MJHPTA can’t support the school without you. Thank you.

Sincerely, Shane Hodgson, MJH PTA President
