Dear Parishioners,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Easter.

Christians throughout the world are celebrating the most important

event in the Church calendar and in human history. Jesus was horribly

killed on Good Friday, lay in a dark cold tomb on the Saturday and rose gloriously from

the dead early on the Sunday morning.

Eggs made of chocolate are given in memory of Jesus’

death and resurrection. An egg is a symbol of new

life. A chick is entombed within the shell of the egg until the time is right for it to burst forth and fly. It is

clear then that the egg is a picture of the tomb, before Jesus broke the power of death and burst free into res-urrection life!

Alleluia is for the cries of rejoicing in heaven as the

angels praised God together as the stone was rolled away to reveal the empty tomb.

Surprise of the disciples. Mary Magdalene went to the

tomb early on the Sunday morning and was surprised and upset to see the tomb empty as she thought

someone had stolen the body of Jesus. She ran to Pe-ter and John and told them the news and they frantic-

ally ran to the tomb to see for themselves.

Tears are for Mary who wept by the empty tomb. She

was the first disciple to meet the resurrected Jesus but at first thought he was the gardener. It was only

when Jesus said her name that she recognized Him.

Every one of the disciples was in fear for their lives

and locked themselves in the upper room and hid from

the Jewish authorities. ‘Suddenly, Jesus appeared in the middle of the group. He greeted them and showed

them his hands and his side. When the disciples saw the Lord, they became very happy. After Jesus had

greeted them again, he said, "I am sending you, just as the Father has sent me." Then he breathed on

them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.” ’

Resurrection. ‘ “Jesus said to her, I am the Resurrec-

tion and the Life! He who believes in Me, though he

die, yet he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” ’

Yours in Christ, Rev Steve Osbourne

Standing Up for Children

‘Whoever welcomes a little child like this in

my name welcomes me’ Matthew 18v5

Funds raised this year will go to support:

The Children’s Society The Children’s Society is a long-established charity that helps

and campaigns for children, exposing injustice and hard is-

sues. Two schemes within the Lichfield Diocese will receive support from the

Lent Appeal:

Independent Visitors - Volunteers who commit to meeting a child in care for

at least two years, to be a supportive adult who will add stability for a longer

period that the average foster home can.

Advocates - Professionals employed by The Children’s Society to be an inde-

pendent voice to support or speak on behalf of a child among the various

agencies that have responsibility for children (such as social services, educa-

tion authorities and fostering agencies).

Please pray for The Children’s Society, their organisation, staff and volunteers,

and for the vulnerable children that they help and speak for.

Friends of the Holy Land Proceeds from the Lent Appeal will help educate the chil-

dren of families on low wages in the Holy Land, bringing up a

well-educated generation of Christians able to strengthen

and sustain their community now and, by reducing the pres-

sure to emigrate, ensuring that there will be a Christian popu-

lation in the future. Friends of the Holy Land is an ecumenical charity, founded

in 2009, that aims to help and encourage the Christian population of the Holy

Land, for whom life is increasingly difficult because of high unemployment, pov-

erty and travel restrictions. FHL supports education, employment, health and

housing, and funds the medical and social needs of identified poor families.

Please pray for Christians in the Holy Land, for freedom from fear, restrictions and

poverty, and for Friends of the Holy Land, as they seek to help create a stable,

supportive and nurturing environment for Christians in the Holy Land to worship

and live.

Please give generously to support these two important projects, helping vul-

nerable children in the UK and our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Holy

Land.

Dearly Beloved,

James 2.20 says, “...Faith without works is dead.”

Are you waiting for God to do something in your life?

One thing you need to learn is that waiting should

not be a passive thing. When we’re waiting the cor-

rect way, we’re on the lookout. We talk like what we

are believing for is going to happen. We act like it’s

going to happen. We’re making preparations.

It’s just like when you’re expecting someone for dinner; you don’t wait until

they show up before you decide to start cooking. Most likely you start early in

the day. You make sure the house is clean, you go to the grocery store, and

maybe buy some flowers for the table. You make preparations because

you’re expecting someone.

Well, that’s the attitude we need to have while we’re waiting for God’s

promises to come to pass. As you put actions behind your prayers, your faith

comes alive and opens the door for God to move mightily on your behalf.

At this very moment, why not pray; “Father, I choose to put actions behind

my faith today. I trust that You are at work in my life. I will wait the right way -

with expectancy knowing that You are leading me into the path You have

for me in Jesus’ name! Amen.”

May the Lord’s wonderful plans take you further ahead and faster too -

In His love,

George & Joyce Irwin

N. B. Last month we had the privilege of going into the local prison with the

precious Word of God. After the meeting there, 100 pairs of warm socks and

woollen caps were distributed to the inmates whereas mufflers were given to

the staff. Please pray as we look to the Lord for His help in recording pro-

grammes to be aired. Thank you so very much.

Teenager bidding to be young scientist of the year Article: The Sentinel, 23 January 2016

ASPIRING forensic detective Catherine Fitzpatrick is on a mission to help police forces worldwide discover human

remains buried by murderers or natural disasters. The 17-year-old sixth-former is to give a presentation on her work to 75,000 academics at the final of the National

Young Scientist of the Year competition. And now Cath-erine is appealing for businesses to lend her a thermal

imaging camera so she can showcase her project.

The St Joseph's College student, from Weston Coyney, said: "The aim is to help the police in their search for murder victims, missing people and those lost in natural or manmade disas-ters." Working with Keele University, Catherine has already won a national Nuffield Science

Award and a Goldcrest Science Award, and for this project buried a series of dead pigs to

test the equipment, methodology and reporting for her new system.

However, because of insurance the university cannot lend out its thermal imaging equipment

and St Joseph's science budget does not extend far beyond the demands of the National

Curriculum.

Catherine – who achieved eight A*s, three As and a B grade in her GCSEs at Blythe Bridge

High School – added: "I am determined to get through to the final section with my stand and project work but the presentation to 75,000 people would really benefit from a practical.

It could be the vital factor."

Catherine's project was one of 100 selected from more than 2,000 online entries. She will now showcase her work at the National Exhibition Centre for the science world's Big Bang Fair in late March. The winner will receive £2,000 plus the chance to do work experience

with a blue chip British innovator.

The teenager – who has just secured a place at St Peter's College, Oxford to read mathe-matics – added: "I love studying science and maths because it's not a matter of opinion, it's

matter of fact. I prefer an objective to a subjective viewpoint."

Catherine is also a talented musician and plays in the Staffordshire Youth Orchestra, Staf-fordshire Jazz Orchestra and Staffordshire Wind Band but she insists her first love is maths.

She added: "Given the opportunity I would love to lecture in maths at Oxford and continue

working in research while at the university."

St Joseph's Headteacher Roisin Maguire said: "Catherine is a talented, hard-working original

thinker and is a young person that we hope local industry will be able to support."

CSI ST JOSEPH'S: Young forensic

detective Catherine Fitzpatrick.

A huge *Congratulations* to Catherine Fitzpatrick on

her wonderful achievement of being selected as a

finalist for the Young Scientist of the Year competition

and her achievements and dedication so far. Please

continue to pray for Catherine as she continues to

study, achieve and prepare for the competition, and

for our other young people in their studies, careers,

relationships and future endeavours; for their faith

and goodness to shine in all they do.

1. Forgiveness must be immediate, whether or not a person asks for it. Trust must be

rebuilt over time. Trust requires a track record. If someone hurts you repeatedly, you

are commanded by God to forgive them instantly, but you are not expected to

trust them immediately, and you are not expected to continue allowing them to

hurt you.

2. And you know, when you've experienced grace and you feel like you've been for-

given, you're a lot more forgiving of other people. You're a lot more gracious to

others.

3. There are a lot of bad things in life that are evil. Not everything that happens in this

world is God’s will, but that’s why we need God in our lives. So forgiveness isn’t for-

getting what happened, it’s about finding what good came out of it.

4. Once I forgive them I can stop looking at how they hurt me and start seeing why

they did it. I can actually be sympathetic and begin to pray for them, for the hurt

they carry that caused them to hurt others. I relinquish my right to get even. I re-

spond to evil with good.

5. To begin loving people today, we must close the door on the past. And that can-

not happen without forgiveness! Forgive those who have hurt you - for your sake,

not because they deserve it.

6. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” he meant it. It’s done. The price has been paid.

You can be forgiven today.

7. The love of Jesus Christ covers your sins, and it also gives you the power to let other

people off the hook. You’ve been forgiven, and you can forgive others.

8. God's mercy to us is the motivation for showing mercy to others. Remember, you

will never be asked to forgive someone else more than God has forgiven you.

9. Many people are reluctant to show mercy because they don't understand the dif-

ference between trust and forgiveness. Forgiveness is letting go of the past. Trust

has to do with future behaviour.

10. Through salvation our past has been forgiven, our present is given meaning, and our

future is secured.

11. I forgive. First, because I've been forgiven by God. Second, unforgiveness makes

me miserable. And third, I'm going to need more

forgiveness in the future. So we don't forgive for

their benefit. We actually forgive for ours.

12. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves that allows

us to get on with our lives instead of being trapped

in the past by resentment.

Pray for Pastor Mustapha Krireche, Whose Church Was Vandalized - Algeria The Light Church, located on the Algerian coast, was vandalized on Jan. 7 or Jan. 8. Pastor Mustapha Krireche said vandals stole furni-ture, worship equipment and money, valued at about $8,000. The group left graffiti on the church walls reading “Allah Akbar!” (Allah is great!). Church leaders filed a complaint, but police have no suspects. This is not the first time the 100-member church has faced threats from Islamists. Pray for Family of Meshack Owino, Who Was Killed by Al-Shabab - Kenya Meshack Owino was one of two Christians killed in a Dec. 21, 2015, attack by al-Shabab near Mandera, Kenya. The militants stopped a bus traveling to Mandera and tried to separate Christians from Muslims. However, several Muslim passengers re-fused to cooperate in an effort to protect the Christians. Meshack was killed while trying to escape, and the other Christian was killed when he approached the stopped bus in a second vehicle. The militants first thought the second vehicle carried Kenyan Defense Forces, giving the bus time to drive away. The militants killed the driver of the second vehicle after learning he was a Christian. Pray for Juliana David, Who Was Shot by Fulani Gunmen - Nigeria Juliana David, a young Christian woman, continues to recover from gunshot wounds she suffered in an Oct. 23, 2015, attack by Fulani gunmen in Plateau state, Nigeria. The gunmen ambushed Juliana and other Christians as they walked down a road to-ward their farm. They killed one man riding a moped before shooting Juliana in the back and leaving her for dead. Neighbors who heard the gunfire found Juliana and took her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery. Pray for Brother Zechariah, Training Afghan Believers - Afghanistan A Christian house-church-leader known as Brother “Zechariah” trains Afghan believ-ers to share the gospel and to teach others to do the same. Our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan face many risks and challenges, including the danger of traveling and gathering for meetings. Pray that they will have more opportunities for discipleship training and making new contacts. Pray for Worship Team Members Attacked During Rehearsal - Russia Men believed to be Russian nationalists attacked members of a worship team on Jan. 8 as they rehearsed at Emmanuel Church in Alexandrov, a small town northeast of Moscow, Russia. One of the attackers pressed a knife to the throat of one worship team member and made demands for the pastor’s whereabouts as well as a list of all church member names. The attackers told the worship team that they planned to eradicate all evangelical churches.
