Strategy of Malbork and the functioning area based on strategic

documents of the voivodeship

Growing accessibility to the bus stops of collective transport causes growth in the number of users. The

basis of these operations is improving their accessibility of (approved in the strategic voivodeship

documents) transport nods and bus stops, integrated by the expansion of the bicycle transport system,

what means the development of the bike routes and development of an infrastructure of the transport

nods and bus stops. The aim here is an implementation of the complete Bike & Ride system.

Plans: The implementation of the Bike & Ride system

Bike & Ride system (park your bike and ride) connects bicycle parking (e.g. sheltered bike racks) at the transfer stop, where are

regional trains used in the journey to the location which is a local centre.

Comfortable and attractive bike routes leading to and from main stops and to the transfer nods are used mainly for enlarging the

area of an impact of the collective transport system and contribute to the growing attractiveness of the Bike & Ride connections

as the alternative for the car. In many cities and countries the ability of safe and easy parking of the bike at the bus stop turned

out to stimulate the use of either the bike and bus or the bike and train. Especially in the neighbourhood of the main stops.

Also the localisations of Bike & Ride system serve clients of Bike & Ride. Increased usage of the infrastructure of bikes also

promotes bike using. These operations will be the continuation of (realised within Elmos project) the bike rental located in the

Malbork marina.

Plans: E-Mobility as the way of travel to larger

metropolitan areas of Mobile Pomerania

The other way of using the bike during the intermodal journeys is transporting of the private bikes by

using the public transport by the passengers. This is a very common practice in the Western Europe

countries, especially using the trains (e.g. regional and suburban trains). In the cases where the

infrastructure is well planned and organised it is possible to use the bike in the beginning and ending

point of the journey.

Improving the accessibility of the transport nods

in Malbork in the prospect of E-mobility

The enlargement of the Park & Ride system will be the

subject of the undertaking as well as fulfilment already

existing bike routes in Malbork city with new sections which

will let travellers get to the integrated nodes – the Railway

Station in Malbork and the integrated stop Malbork-Kałdowo.

The transport in the functional area is functioning in 3

areas:

1. The widest area of getting to the Tri-city

2. Access from the MOF area to the capital of MOF -

Malbork, where people work, study and trade

3. Journeys within Malbork area

In the 1st and 2nd area the journeys are performed either

by using an individual transport or a form of a

multimedia trip.

Advantages of the implementation of the plans

The implementation of the Park & Ride system as well as the system of the bike routes, which will enable easier

connection by using the bike.

This will have many positive effects in the areas:

- reducing the intensity of the vehicular traffic

- reducing the pollution

- enhancement of the attractiveness of the railway transport

Implementation of the bike garages (individual boxes) will enable safe leaving them for the day and night within the transport

nod. The implementation of the project of bike routes in the northern-east part of town (where the developing economical

area is located – in the industrial area, where places of work are located) will urge part of workers from outside of town to use

rail transport to Malbork and to use bikes located in town.

Journeys within Malbork - because of the size of the town those journeys can be performed by using bicycle transport, which will

decrease crowd and strengthen collective transport.

Page 20: MALBORK CICLOVIA CITY 8-80 - elmos-project.eu · MALBORK CICLOVIA CITY 8-80 . Part-financedby the European Union (European Regional DevelopmentFund) CLOACKROOM In building of Municipality

Advantages of using E-mobility resolutions in numbers

Carried surveys showed that the bicycle journey to the rail

nod in Malbork was accomplished only 0.45% population

of all trips.

When on average 1.01% people got by bikes to the rail stop

within the Pomeranian voivodeship.

Malbork nod has low share of railway approaches made by

cyclists comparing to the voivodeship and the

voivodeship itself has a low indicator comparing to the

western countries.

In Netherlands bicycle approaches to rail stops are

reaching 40% and in Germany 10%.

Taking that into consideration we need to recognise huge

potential of development of the bicycle approaches.

Although in the case of bicycle journeys the

infrastructure supply is stimulating the demand in the

trips not the opposite. It's not the case of the railway

transport where the demand (overcrowded trains)

enforce the supply (the development of the rail

infrastructure).

The implementation of the resolutions should provide about 3% increase in a bicycle approach of the transport nod in

Malbork.
