•We need to manage natural resources because : •A majority of natural resources is limited. And human

population is increasing at a tremendous rate.•Utilization of natural resources is increasing at an

exponential rate.•Need to conserve resources for future generations.•Equal distribution of resources for equal benefit.•Need to reduce the damage caused to the

environment because of the over-exploitation and utilization of resources.

•Waste generated from the utilization of these resources is to be safely disposed.

• The  Chipko Andolan through the act of hugging trees to protect them from being felled. The modern Chipko movement started in the early 1970s in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, then in Uttar Pradesh with growing awareness towards rapid deforestation.

• A group of peasant women in Reni village, Hemwal ghati, in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India, acted to prevent the cutting of trees and reclaim their traditional forest rights that were threatened by the contractors assigned by the state Forest Department. Their actions inspired hundreds of such actions at the grassroots level throughout the region. By the 1980s the movement had spread throughout India and led to the formulation of people-sensitive forest policies, which put a stop to the open felling of trees in regions as far reaching as Vindhyas and the Western Ghats.

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies . Water pollution occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities.

A dam is a barrier that impounds water or underground streams. Dams generally serve the primary purpose of retaining water. Hydropower and pumped-storage hydroelectricity are often used in conjunction with dams to generate electricity. A dam can also be used to collect water or for storage of water which can be evenly distributed between locations.

Advantages of Dams : 1) Water Storage2) Irrigation3) Electrical Generation4) Navigation5) Meet the rural agricultural demands.6) Dams help in flood control Disadvantages o f Dams:1) Expens ive2) Dis turbance in b iod ivers i ty3) Geologica l damage4) Aquat ic l i fe i s d is turbed .

RECYCLERecycling is a series of steps that takes a used material and processes, remanufactures, and sells it as a new product. Begin recycling at home and at work.REUSEIt makes economic and environmental sense to reuse products. Sometimes it takes creativity.REDUSEReducing the amount of waste you produce is the best way to help the environment.
