    Mining Competence Centre - How to make progress in the mining sector?Mining Competence Center. Comment les mines font carrire ?

    EN On 23 January last, the Mining Competence Centre (MCC) was inaugurated in Italy within PU Castelfranco. The MCC brings together an international team of employees, specia-lised in creating new material handling solu-tions for the mining sector. In a very specific environment with numerous local standards, the MCC team will be in charge of offering a range of trucks meeting the specifications necessary for mining applications. The MCC will take advantage of the experience of the South African and Australian subsidiaries, for example, to adapt some of the already-existing machines and therefore build a genuine pro-duct range that is unique in this market.

    FR Le 23 janvier dernier a eu lieu linauguration du MCC (Mining Competence Center) en Italie au sein de la PU Castelfranco. Le MCC rassemble une quipe internationale de collaborateurs, spcialise dans la cration de nouvelles solutions de manutention pour le secteur minier. Dans un environnement trs spcifique avec de nombreuses normes locales, lquipe du MCC aura la charge de proposer une gamme de chariots rpondant aux spcifications ncessaires aux applications Mines. Le MCC profitera des expriences des filiales sud-africaines et australiennes par exemple pour adapter un certain nombre de machines dj existantes et constituer ainsi une vritable offre unique sur ce march.

    From Belgorod to Moscow De Belgorod Moscou EN Manitou Vostok moved from Belgorod to Moscow in December 2013, to the much larger premises located to the north of the capital, not far from Sheremetyevo airport. The new Moscow headquarters will refocus on the growing market for telescopic trucks for building and compact loaders. A team of 4 persons remains in part of the old offices at Belgorod for proximity to the agricultural dealers. Official inauguration planned during 2014.

Le nouveau QG moscovite permet de se recentrer sur le march en croissance des tlescopiques construction et des chargeuses compactes. Une cellule de 4 personnes demeure dans une partie des anciens bureaux Belgorod pour rester proche des concessionnaires agricoles. Inauguration officielle prvue courant 2014.

    EN On 22 October last, Yanmar became a sha-reholder in Manitou at a level of 6.26%, thus sealing its alliance with the group. Remember that, in January 2012, Manitou and Yanmar an-nounced the signature of a cross partnership.Surrounded by 6 of his close staff members, the Chairman Takehito Yamaoka visited the head office of the company and met its main shareholders, Mr Marcel Braud and Ms Jacqueline Himsworth. This was a day that was minutely orchestrated to show our pres-tigious visitors the museum, the production unit and the CLPR and to take the time for friendly discussions.

    FR Le 22 octobre dernier, la socit Yanmar devenait actionnaire de Manitou hau-teur de 6,26 %, scellant ainsi son alliance avec le groupe. Rappelons que Manitou et Yanmar avaient annonc, en janvier 2012, la signature dun partenariat crois.     TestimonialHommageEN We were sad to learn of the death of Mr Georges-Henri Bernard, former direc-tor of Manitou, on 23 February 2014. Executive and financial director from 1970, then director from 1973 to 2009, he was one of the loyal companions of Marcel Braud and the Manitou group for nearly 40 years.He was a wise counsellor and was very much involved, as well as being close to the network of dealers, and supported nu-merous important projects which allowed the group to continue its expansion. We would like to pay our last respects to him here.

Direc-teur administratif et financier ds 1970, puis administrateur de 1973 2009, il a t lun des fidles compagnons de Marcel Braud et du groupe Manitou pendant prs de 40 ans. Conseiller avi-s et trs impliqu, proche galement du rseau de concessionnaires, il a accompagn de nombreux projets importants permettant au groupe de poursuivre son expansion. Nous sou-haitons lui rendre ici un dernier hom-mage.

    IN BRIEF BRVES

    EN Michel Denis, you have just joined the Manitou group after some ten years within the Fraikin group. What are your first impressions?As I mentioned during interviews with the press and before employees, the Manitou name was not unfamiliar to me. We all know the fine products produced by the red brand. On the other hand, I was not familiar with either the history or the group. During various discussions with shareholders, I discovered that they had a real enthusiasm, both for the products and the company. I found this enthusiasm amongst numerous employees whom I met during the very first days when I took up my position. I understood that we could very quickly speak the same language and share the same values. You clearly stated that your first concern was to revive the customer relationship. Could you tell us a little more?It seems simple to say that customers want good products within short deadlines. It's true. But firstly, it is much more complicated than that and, secondly, it does not stop there. There must also be the right service: the right parts, maintenance and financing, all with one thing constantly in mind: avoid the machine being immobilised on the customer's premises. For all these reasons, we must work - on design, to have the right products, - on industrial efficiency, to make them avai-lable under the best conditions- and hand-in-hand with our networks, for dis-tribution and monitoring, throughout the life of the product.

    On this last point, particularly, what are your first messages to our networks?I would like to assure them of my intention to re-establish a genuine local relationship with them. Of course, my initial training as an engi-neer has made me aware of the product I'm not afraid to say that I find it interesting and that I'm enthusiastic about it. But I also have a commercial streak and I know that the success of a company is based primarily on good atten-tiveness to the requirements of customers and the ability to meet them. The dealers are our primary partners our primary customers and our intermediaries towards end users. Hence my intention to favour the relationship with the network and extend our presence still fur-ther throughout the world. Although some of our markets and geographical zones have suf-fered over the last few years, others are open to us and we must adapt our commercial range of products and services. For some, it means capitalising on our strengths and for others,

    Interview with Michel Denis, Chief Executive Officer Interview de Michel Denis, Directeur gnralEN After a transition period of nearly a year, the Manitou group has just welcomed Michel Denis, who will take the reins of the company. His first declarations, both internally and externally, clearly show his profound attachment to customer satisfaction and his intention to be close to what is happening on the ground, meaning the dealers. He explains this to us in the following interview.

    FR Aprs une priode de transition de prs dun an, le groupe Manitou vient daccueillir Michel Denis pour prendre les rnes de lentreprise. Ses premires dclarations, aussi bien en interne quen externe, ont fait clairement ressortir son attachement profond la satisfaction clients et sa volont dtre proche du terrain, et donc des concessionnaires. Il nous lexplique dans lentretien qui suit.

    positioning ourselves as pioneers. The poten-tial is vast but we must take into account the specifics of each market.

    To summarise, what are the three words that could define the way that you begin your new job?- proximity firstly, both with customers and the group's employees, which I mentioned at length above;- ambition, of course, for our group and for each one of us, stakeholders included. Getting back leadership and being demanding is a task that needs to drive us;- and finally, enthusiasm for our work. So that everyone finds the motivation and the willingness to get ahead and be better than our competitors. This is how we will regain greater economic performance to secure our investments, our development and our future, over the long term.

    FR Michel Denis, vous venez de rejoindre le groupe Manitou aprs une dizaine dan-nes passes au sein du groupe Fraikin. Quelles sont vos premires impressions ?Comme je lai voqu lors dinterviews avec la presse ou devant les salaris, le nom Manitou ne mtait bien sr pas tran-ger. On connat tous les beaux pro-duits de la marque rouge. Je ntais en revanche familier ni de lhistoire ni du groupe. Lors des diffrents changes avec les actionnaires, jai dcouvert quils avaient une vraie passion, pour les pro-duits et pour lentreprise. Passion que jai retrouve chez bon nombre de collabo-rateurs rencontrs dans les tout premiers jours de ma prise de fonction. Jai compris que nous pourrions trs vite parler le mme langage et partager les mmes valeurs.

    Vous avez clairement indiqu que votre premire proccupation serait de raviver la relation client. Pouvez-vous nous en dire un peu plus ?Il parat simple en effet de dire quil faut aux clients les bons produits dans les bons dlais. Cest vrai. Mais cest dune part beaucoup plus compliqu que cela et dautre part, cela ne sarrte pas cela. Il faut aussi le bon service : les bonnes pices, la maintenance et le financement, tout cela avec une obsession de chaque minute : viter limmobilisation de la machine chez le client. Pour toutes ces raisons, nous devons travailler

    - en conception pour disposer des bons produits, - sur lefficacit industrielle pour les mettre disposition dans les meilleures conditions- et main dans la main avec nos rseaux pour assurer la distribution et le suivi, tout au long de la vie du produit.

    Sur ce dernier point justement, quels seront vos premiers messages nos rseaux ?Je souhaite les assurer de ma volont de rtablir une vritable relation de proximit avec eux. Ma formation initiale dingnieur me sensibilise bien sr au produit ; je ne crains pas de dire que a me parle et surtout que cela me passionne. Mais jai aussi la fibre commerciale et je sais que le succs dune entreprise repose avant tout sur une bonne coute des besoins des clients et sur la capacit y rpondre. Les concessionnaires sont nos premiers partenaires ; nos premiers clients et nos relais vers les utilisateurs finaux. Do ma volont de privilgier la relation avec le rseau et dtendre encore notre prsence dans le monde. Si certains de nos marchs et zones gographiques ont souffert ces dernires annes, dautres soffrent nous et nous devons adapter notre offre commerciale. Il sagit pour certains de capitaliser sur nos forces et pour dautres de nous positionner comme pionniers. Le potentiel est vaste mais nous devons tenir compte des spcificits de chaque march.

    En rsum, quels sont les trois mots qui pourraient dfinir votre prise de fonc-tions ?- la proximit tout dabord, aussi bien avec les clients quavec les collaborateurs du groupe, ce que jai largement voqu ci-dessus ;- lambition bien sr, pour notre groupe et pour chacun dentre nous, parties prenantes comprises. Retrouver du leadership et de lexigence est une mission qui doit nous animer ;- et finalement, de lardeur au travail. Que chacun retrouve de la motivation et lenvie daller de lavant et dtre meilleurs que nos concurrents. Nous regagnerons ainsi une plus grande performance conomique pour prenniser nos investissements, notre dveloppement et notre futur.

    EN A commitment by Manitou GroupAs part of its CSR* process, the Manitou group wants to provide its customers with reliable, clear and transparent information on the real consumption data for its agricultural machines. This comparative information on the products goes beyond the communication that is usually made in the sector, which is based on data relative to reducing consumption.

    Consumption in l/h as well as CO emissions audited by UTAC** To provide information and to make its customers more aware of the impact that they have when driving their machines, and to highlight the difference in performance from one model to another, for the first time, Manitou is disclosing its data in l/h and on the CO2 emissions that are caused.

    The Group requested UTAC to come on site to audit and confirm that the tests carried out were perfectly in accordance with the operating mode (cycles used, measurement resources, internal skills,) described below.

    A transparent approach, objective and accessible to allIn contrast to the automobile sector, the materials-handling sector does not yet have any standardized cycles. The Manitou group has therefore established a transparent internal protocol to communicate its own consumption metrics. This protocol is based on seven years of experience in consumption tests and observation on the ground, and discussions with its customers. This process is intended primarily to be objective and accessible to all.

    Operating procedureThe consumption metrics are carried out on 4 activities that represent the activity of an agricultural telescopic truck: materials handling, bulk loading, road travel and idling. To simplify reading the labels on the machines, only the performance on the road and during material handling is displayed. Customers are then invited to try out an Internet-based calculator that gives them access to the other data.* Corporate Social Responsibility

Ce protocole sappuie sur sept annes dexp-rience en matire de tests de consommation et dobservation sur le terrain, et de partage avec ses clients. Cette dmarche se veut avant tout objective et accessible tous.

    Something new in high tonnageDu nouveau ct fort tonnageEN Officially introduced at Conexpo last March (Las Vegas, United States), the MHT 1490 has extended the range of high-tonnage telescopic trucks of the Manitou brand. Particularly adap-ted to port or public works appli-cations (road structures, bridges,), the MHT 1490 is unmat-ched in terms of performance

    and safety with its 14 metres of lifting height and its 9 tonnes of load capacity. The very first in the range of Manitou telescopic trucks, the MHT 1490 has an MTU engine (Mercedes) Final Tier IV

    with a DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid).

Particularly well adapted for storage at height in a building, this clamp has good load distribution over the en-tire height thanks to its 7 teeth.

    MT 732 and 932 are returning fitted with a Stage IIIB engine of the Deutz brand for European markets. Particularly well adap-ted to applications on urban or residential construction sites, they meet the require-ments of compact design (low bulk), simplicity (design and use) and reliability (load capacity and lifting height). Manitou's teams have taken advantage of this to install the JSM (mono-lever Joystick

    Switch & Move) on them and to overhaul the interior of the cab, incorporating the standards of the red brand.

Hosted by the local dealer Midstate Machinery, the 40 customers and dealers invited to this first version were able to test our machines and their new functionalities in obstacle races and activi-ties put in place for the occasion.

    EN At the end of the year, Manitou Austra-lia held its annual meeting to the sound of Every Sale Is Sacred'*. This was the oppor-tunity for the 30 guest dealers to discuss the main events of 2013 and exchange ideas on the strategy of Manitou Australia for 2014. Workshops were set up so that they could refine their knowledge of our campaigns and learn about the promotion of the Gehl and Mustang brands in Australia. The event ended on the track of the V8 Clipsal 500 Sydney race, where the dealers were able to go around the track with the driver Alex Davison, sponsored by Manitou Australia.

For the occasion, the US subsidiary invited 35 of its dealers to a preview of all the new machines in the MRT range, as well as the 3-D Pendulum basket. They took advantage of this to visit the premises of Manitou Americas in West Bend and meet the teams.

    EN Last September, Manitou Brasil began a marketing operation to dealers of the brands Gehl, Mustang and Manitou. The best sales staff won a return ticket to a Formula 1 race in the United States. Accompanied by Carlos Sampaio, Sales Manager, the 12 sales staff met the team at Manitou Americas and were better able to appreciate the strength of Manitou throughout the world.

EN As part of the "2013 challenge, now boarding", organised by the marketing department in France and Manitou Finance France, a trip to Brazil was the prize. 55 sales staff from the France network left for Fortaleza in the North-East region, from 4 to 9 February 2014. During this trip, the French group took part in a charitable action with the IPREDE association (family aid association) with 300

    children from underprivileged families. During the period of the competition, from 2 May to 15 December 2013, the challenge generated 1,700 orders.

    EN As part of their training course on maintenance techniques for machinery and materials handling equipment (construction and agriculture) organised by the Dsseldorf Chamber of Trades, 23 trainees followed a course based on an MRT 2150 (rotative telescopic truck of the Manitou brand) and an articulated loader of the Gehl brand. Technical proficiency with these two machines will be subject to assessment and will count towards obtaining their diplomas at the end of the year.     EN Since 2008, our dealership Shanghai MACLIFT Mechanical Equipment has been in partnership with the Fire Brigade of the city of Changzhou in China (Changzhou City Public Security Fire Brigade). Their vehicles are equipped with TMT 25S. Easy to use, the truck-mounted forklifts are used to unload equipment from the fire trucks on the various sites where they are used. 13 machines have been sold in 5 years.

    EN Interview with Sven Dekeyser, Chief Executive of Key-TecCould you give us an introduction to your dealership?

    We have been Manitou dealers for almost 20 years now. Located in Moerbeke in Belgium, we work mainly in the agriculture and construction markets. In agriculture, the flagship products are the MLT 625/634 and 840, while in construc-tion, the rental market is predominant. In 2002, we dedicated 4 machines to rental and now we have 180 of them! This activity generates tur-nover of 2.9 million, representing 22% of our total turnover. The MRT, MT and the ATJ are the products that are rented most. The rental

    machines are renewed every 4 years, to keep the fleet young. Our customers are very satisfied with the quality and reliability of our rental machines.

    How did your dealership de-velop?

    Numerous changes took place. We greatly in-creased our services to become a supplier of overall solutions. Our range of pro-ducts broade-

    ned, as did our markets. We are taking our first steps in the industrial market, with the promo-tion and sale of MIs.So that we can always supply high-quality ser-vices, we have been hiring, and we have moder-nised and enlarged our infrastructure by more than 3,000 m. We have built offices and mee-ting rooms for our team of some thirty persons, as well as a workshop and an exhibition area where our customers can discover the entire Manitou range.

    How do you see the future with Manitou?

    We would like to continue to develop Manitou rental services and broaden our scope of action. Increasing our stock of machines would improve even further the way we respond to the requi-rements of our customers as soon as possible. We also want to improve our visibility through marketing operations, to be present in the minds of our customers and prospects.

    Cela fait presque 20 ans que nous sommes concessionnaire Manitou. Situ Moerbeke en Belgique, nous travaillons principalement sur les marchs de l'agriculture et de la construc-tion. En agriculture, les produits phares sont les MLT 625/634 et 840 tandis quen construc-tion, cest le march de la location qui prime. En 2002, nous avons ddi 4 machines la location et, aujourdhui, nous en avons 180 ! Cette activit gnre un chiffre daffaires de 2,9 millions deuros, soit 22 % de notre chiffre daffaires total. Les MRT, les MT et les ATJ sont les produits les plus lous. Les machines de location sont renouveles tous les 4 ans afin de garder une flotte jeune. Nos clients sont

    ainsi trs satisfaits de la qualit et de la fiabi-lit de nos machines de location.

    Quelle a t lvolution de votre concession ?

    De nombreux changements ont eu lieu. Nous avons largement accru nos services pour de-venir fournisseur de solutions globales. Notre gamme de produits sest largie ainsi que nos marchs. Nous faisons nos premiers pas sur le march industriel avec la promotion et la vente des MI.

    Afin de toujours fournir des prestations de qualit, nous avons embauch, modernis et agrandi notre infrastructure de plus de 3 000 m. Nous avons construit des bureaux et des salles de runion pour notre quipe dune trentaine de personnes ainsi quun ate-lier et un espace d'exposition o nos clients peuvent dcouvrir toute la gamme Manitou.

    Comment voyez-vous l'avenir avec Manitou ?

    Nous souhaitons continuer dvelopper l'offre de location Manitou et largir notre primtre daction. Accrotre notre stock de machines nous permettrait de toujours mieux rpondre aux demandes de nos clients dans les meilleurs dlais. Nous voulons galement amliorer notre visibilit grce des oprations de marketing afin dtre prsents dans lesprit de nos clients et de nos prospects.

It is also regularly contacted throughout Belgium for its 3D access platform.In the Walloon province of Brabant, they restored the Pitrebais church tower. Access to it was narrow and restricted because it is located at the top of the hill. Thanks to the MRT 3050, they did not encounter any difficulties. At the head of the company for 13 years, Chris Mathijs is now handing over to Stefaan

    Forret, who joined the group on 3 February last. Chris Mathijs is continuing the adventure in the job of Red Products Director within Manitou Americas from 1 March 2014.

    EN How is the Benelux market doing? What are its specifics?

    Chris Mathijs: agriculture is a mature and stable market, in spite of the latest crisis, with mar-ket share of +/- 45%, which means that many transactions are negotiated with machines being returned. The market for construction is much more volatile. It mainly concerns the hire of machines. The MRTs are gradually replacing the very high MTs. The access platforms have a good reputation and their market share is in-creasing. In industry, the market is more recent and has good prospects. The compact loader in particular is of dependable value in the port sector.For several years, our dealers have been inves-ting in hire fleets. This forward-looking choice has been favourable to them, providing good growth potential. They are finding their place alongside the well-known large equipment hire companies.

    Chris Mathijs, what will you remember about these 13 years spent at Manitou Benelux?

    They were very interesting years! In spite of all the ups and downs in the economy, the strength of our network of dealers is such that a certain balance has been established wit-hin the changing cycles. What is more, thanks to the range of services that are offered, the network has kept a robust place within the market. This result could not have been achie-ved without the unfailing support of the team at Manitou Benelux.What I always find a striking about our Belgian road network is the colour red! It's probably a habit that comes from the job, but I see it eve-rywhere: on construction sites, farms, at rental companies or dealers, on HGVs, I am taking a little of that away with me. It's also reassuring to know that the biggest bre-wery in the world, AB InBev, is Belgian and dis-tributes in the United States! So I'll be able to enjoy a good beer from time to time.

    Stefaan Forret, what are your first impres-sions?

    Of course, before joining the Manitou group, I had an image of it. It was that of a reference in its sector with high-quality brands! And I had the pleasure of noticing that these are the va-lues that are conveyed internally and that the teams do their utmost to go in this direction. I also felt the family spirit of the group.It is also reassuring to see the good deve-lopment of Manitou Benelux in spite of an economic context that is sometimes difficult. We can also count on our close partnership with our network of dealers, who are not short of ideas for diversifying and trying out new things.

    FR Comment se porte le march beneluxien ? Quelles sont ses spcificits ? Chris Mathijs : lagriculture est un march mature et stable, malgr la dernire crise, avec des parts de march de +/- 45 %, ce qui fait que beaucoup de dossiers se ngocient avec des reprises de machines. Le march de la construction est beaucoup plus vola-til. Il volue principalement vers de la loca-tion de machines. Les MRT remplacent peu peu les MT grandes hauteurs. Les nacelles bnficient dune bonne rputation et leur part de march est croissante. En industrie, le march est plus rcent et avec de belles perspectives. La chargeuse compacte est notamment une valeur sre dans le secteur portuaire.

    Depuis quelques annes, nos concession-naires ont investi dans des flottes de loca-tion. Ce choix plutt visionnaire leur a t favorable en apportant un beau potentiel de croissance. Ils trouvent leur place aux cts des grands loueurs bien connus.

    Chris Mathijs, que gardez-vous en mmoire de ces 13 ans passs chez Manitou Benelux ?

    Ce furent des annes trs intressantes ! Malgr les hauts et les bas de lconomie, la force de notre rseau de concession-naires est telle quun certain quilibre a pu sinstaller dans ces cycles changeants. De plus, grce loffre de services, le rseau a gard une place robuste au sein du mar-ch. Ce rsultat naurait pas pu tre ralis sans le support sans faille de lquipe de Manitou Benelux.Ce qui me frappe toujours sur notre rseau routier belge, cest le rouge ! Dformation professionnelle sans doute, mais il y en a partout : sur les chantiers, les fermes, chez les loueurs ou concessionnaires, sur les poids-lourds Jemporte un petit bout de tout a avec moi. Cest galement rassurant de savoir que le plus grand brasseur au monde, AB InBev, est belge et distribu aux tats-Unis ! Cela me permettra de dguster une bonne bire de temps autre.

    Stefaan Forret, quelles sont vos pre-mires impressions ?

    Bien sr, avant dintgrer le groupe Manitou, javais une image de celui-ci. Celle dune rfrence dans son secteur avec des marques de qualit ! Et bien, jai le plaisir de constater que ce sont les valeurs vhicules en interne, que les quipes se dmnent pour aller dans ce sens. Jai galement res-senti lesprit familial du groupe.Cest galement rassurant de voir le bon d-veloppement de Manitou Benelux malgr un contexte conomique parfois difficile. On peut aussi compter sur notre partena-riat troit avec notre rseau de concession-naires, qui ne manque pas dides pour se diversifier et se renouveler.

    EN Last 10 to 16 November, the internatio-nal Agritechnica exhibition took place, the worldwide showcase for agricultu-ral machinery, in Hanover (Germany). The 2013 version had more than 450,000 visitors coming from 88 countries. Manitou Group took advantage of the occasion by exhibiting inno-vations and solutions adapted to the require-ments of farmers. There were no less than 4 new machines (MLT 1040, MLT 634, MLT 735 and MLT 741), one preview (MLT 960) and a completely new programme on the consumption of machines, REDUCE (see page 5). The exhibition was the op-portunity to re-emphasise the extent to which cycle times and usage intensity determine the manufacture of our material handling solutions. "As well as being essential equipment in farming, our machines also contribute to the profitability of farms", said Franois-Frdric Piffard, VP Sales & Marketing and VP New Business.

A genuine international exhibition, Conexpo received just over 125,000 visitors and 2,400 industrialists. Amongst them, the Manitou group exhibited under its three brands, Gehl, Manitou and Mustang. The atmosphere was very good at the exhibition, taking advan-tage of the positive economic situation in the American market. "At the moment, we want to improve our position with the support of our network of dealers and our experience in the material handling market", said Michel Denis, Chief Executive Officer of the Manitou group. "We are convinced that we have the best brands, the best products, the best distribution chan-nels, the best TCO* and the best teams."Manitou took advantage of the occasion to give a preview of the very latest MHT 1490 (14m/9t), as well as the MLT 960 (9m/6t) and the hydrostatic version of the M50.
