The Keith Jones Memorial Award is awarded each year in memory of Keith. Keith was a long term member of ACT Masters Squash. He was a major contributor to the work of the Committee and the running of ACT Masters squash over many years. Keith epitomized the Masters Spirit both on and off the court. Keith passed away in 2012. The 2017 Keith Jones Memorial Award was presented at the March Tournament dinner by Keith’s wife Judy Jones. The very deserving winner of this year’s award was Sue Parker. Sue has been a committee member for over 13 years. Sue is a strong competitor, always tries her hardest and always plays in the Masters spirit. What sets Sue apart is her happy disposition and manner on and off the court. Sue is also a very resourceful organiser, taking on the responsibility some time ago to organise all of our official, and many of our unofficial, functions including the March Tournaments and the past two National Championships that ACT Masters Squash has hosted. Sue has also taken on the role of accommodation coordinator for the ACT Masters teams travelling to take part in National Championships, a thankless task but one that she has made her own, along with functions organiser and Wrinkly’s Review organiser. Congratulations Sue.

ACT Masters Championship

This year's March Tournament was again a fantastic weekend. We had a total of 146 players participating, which was a 20 percent increase on our 2016 numbers. Dinner (arranged by Sue Parker) was again a great night, this time on firm land at Rydges Capital Hill, with 84 players joining us for a great night out. I would like to thank a number of people, some who either aren't on the committee or even playing squash any longer, but still contributed a significant amount of their time so that we could enjoy a great weekend of squash. In particular, I would like to thank Lyn Dunmore, Linda Barich, Virginia Buring, Lisa Grice and Alan Martin for operating the desks over the weekend at Weston Creek and Woden. Jenny Moylan and Mike Di Nadi again ran a great kitchen, with nobody running the risk of going hungry. On Sunday Richard Horlock and Scott Caban spent hours slaving over a hot BBQ – in between Richard selling a truck load of raffle tickets. Lastly, I would like to pass on my sincere congratulations to Ron Smith for running yet another great tournament. I’m not sure how he does it, but he always seems to get the grading “just right”. Well done to everybody involved, both in running and participating over the weekend. The results and photos are below.

ACT Masters tournament tee-shirts The ACT Masters Squash committee decided to provide each participant in our recent ACT Masters tournament with a complimentary tee-shirt as part of their entry fee. A big thankyou is extended to Heather Campbell for all the time and effort she put into arranging the tee-shirt, in conjunction with a local company, On The Go Sports. The design incorporated the promotional logos of all our sponsors, and is intended to thank each of them for their on-going support for ACT Masters Squash. We were fortunate to attract an increase in participants to our tournament this year, however, this necessitated the need to place a second order for additional tee-shirts. As soon as this new order arrives, the tee-shirts will be delivered to all the players who were unable to collect their shirt on the tournament weekend.
