LENTEN JOURNEY Created by Spiritual Ministries Institute, Inc.Created by Spiritual Ministries Institute, Inc.Created by Spiritual Ministries Institute, Inc.Created by Spiritual Ministries Institute, Inc.

2012

Tuesday, April 3 and Wednesday, April 4 at two sessions each day from:

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Fellowship Hall

Lenten Journey is a personal, spiritual and creative experience offered in a community setting. Eight meditation centers provide an environment and instructions for a private and self-paced meditation on the Seven Last Words of Christ. In order to maintain the sacred space and silence of Lenten Journey, guests are welcomed and given a brief introduction to the meditation centers.

Each of the eight meditation centers provides a different meditation experience, while each center has instructions and materials necessary for the meditation suggested.

A simple journal is provided and instructions are given for journaling in order that guests may better remember the graces offered them. You may bring your own journal if you wish.

Guests take as long as they like at each station. If they are unable - due to time - to complete all eight stations, that is alright. Lenten Journey is set up for you to come and go at your convenience.

If guests need extra time between centers, want to remain in prayer or solitude after the eight meditations, or perhaps need to wait for a center to become available, they are invited to sit quietly in the Sanctuary, read their Bible, or go for a walk (in the daylight).

Lenten Journey is a simple, yet deep experience for participants. All hospitality ministers and guests are asked to maintain silence and respect the solitude of other participants. __________________________________________________ SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER SERVICE

Thank you to all who helped make our Mixed Designs catalog fundraiser a success! You can expect delivery of items before May 1st!

*********************************************************************** This week in Sunday School, the youth looked at Ecclesiastes 5. We discussed questions like, "Why is it said that money is the root of all evil?", “How is money good? How is it bad? Is it wrong to want more?"

The students suggested that money is a useful, even necessary, commodity for organizing trade in society and a motivating force for success. But it also disrupts the concept of Equality, allowing some to have much, while others have little, and this potentially allows the kind of corrupted power that oppresses. The students decided that Christians can help balance this by keeping the humility and compassion of Christ in mind as they use and distribute their own money. We should also remind ourselves that our money is not really ours; it originates from the resources of God's earth and came to us through the abilities and talents God loans us while we live. Solomon also expresses in Ecc. 5: 20 that the real blessing comes from rejoicing in our labor...being gladder for the work, and the ability to do it, than for the wealth we hope will come from it!

Chapel Hill Bells Attend Handbell Festival

Saturday, March 24, part of our handbell choir attended the Greater Dallas Handbell Association Handbell Festival in Coppell. We had a great time. We learned a lot and enjoyed the smaller venue with nine other handbell choirs. Next year the festival will be held at FUMC-Allen - where I used to be the Director of Music.

Serving at The Stewpot/ The Bridge Friday, March 9, found six of the Chapel Hill UMC family serving those within another family, at The Stew Pot at The Bridge. Archie and Iris Shivar, Pat Moore, Margaret Young, Jose Ramirez and Ruth Medcalf had said “Yes, I can do this.” I want to share what the afternoon was like for some of us. As me, going to serve at The Stew Pot for the first time was a step outside of what might be called my usual comfort zone; something I had never done before and did not know very much about. I did know that God wanted me to do this, something that I been needing and wanting to do. Ruth and Archie had served before and I wanted to serve with them. I’m ever so glad that I went, especially with my Chapel Hill family. Now I know that serving at The Stew Pot is something that I can do! When I saw faces that were so young I thought “but they’re so young”, I thought of my former students and wondered how they’re doing now. When I saw the aged faces I thought of my own father and thanked God for taking care of him. I told myself that each person is a child of God and thanked Him for taking care of that person. Margaret Young shared with me so I could share with you, “I have served before and I do it because it is a real need. In my early marriage years, Carl and I had to have assistance for a short time so I know what it was like to be helped so we could get back on our feet. Many of these people need help just for survival and if we can help even a little bit we are following the message discipleship.” Pat Moore told me,”This was the second time for me. I had been in the Summer and served dinner. It’s very interesting to watch the faces of the people as they go thru the line. Some show despair, some relief to be out of the elements, others thanks for the meal and for the volunteers who help serve. I guess that sums up why I like doing this; the simple things that change a person’s day.” Ruth Medcalf said, “Mom, serving at The Bridge makes me appreciate what I have. I poured the water both times that I have gone to The Bridge, by doing that I interact more with the homeless. Some of them thanked me for being there and serving them and one man said that I had a good smile and looked happy. That made me feel appreciated. I am glad that I took time out of my day to go and serve others who are less fortunate than me.” When you see Archie and Jose ask them about the time they served at The Stew Pot. Chapel Hill UMC will have an opportunity to serve again at The Stew Pot during dinner June 1 and July 6. Till then, to learn more visit www.thestewpot.org/meal.asp. While I was writing this I had to stop and read Matthew 25: 33–46 and Romans 8: 28

Page 6: March 30, 2012 HOLY WEEK 2012 · 3/30/2012  · Lenten Journey This is a series of private meditations based on the seven last words of Christ. Come to the You will go from the Sanctuary

Dear Church Family, I want to personally invite you to come experience the last words of Christ as He died for us on the cross. The Lenten Journey is a personal self-paced Holy time to let God know that His love is received, by prayer, meditation, music and self expression. Come hear and explore the important words that the world’s Messiah left for us. Come find eight opportunities to get closer to Christ, which is the true meaning of this Lenten season. Come share your love for our Savior as He displayed His undying love for you and me. Come and be touched by the Spirit and essence of why Christ was here on earth. To all of you that I have ever, hugged, served on Youth and Children, Outreach, Emmaus, Lay Speakers, Prayer Groups, Mission Trips, Women Annual Luncheons, readers of the Projected words during Sunday Worship Service, and banana pudding eaters, I look forward to seeing you there (and bring a friend!). In His service, Felice Ricks

FASHION, FABLES, FAMILY AND FEAST UMW LUNCHEON - APRIL 21st

Once again the United Methodist Women are having their annual fundraiser with a salad luncheon in Fellowship Hall on Saturday, April 21st at 11:00 am.

This year will be different since we will be having an inner-generational modeling show sponsored by Dillard’s. UMW members will be joined by mothers and children to show off the latest fashions. The theme is children's literature with table sponsors selecting a child's book and decorating the table accordingly. We are excited about the possibilities of the various creations by the creative minds of our church members. They have always done a fabulous job in the past and we expect no less this year.

So make your plans to buy your tickets starting this Sunday. Prices are: Adults - $10.00 and children - $5:00. Invite your friends and family. This is always a fun time so let us know who and how many will be sitting at your table and joining in the festivities. What better way to be disciples for Christ than uniting in an exciting event to benefit others.
