Direct Resin Buildup Technique

Marcos Vargas, DDS*

• Composite resin materials forthis technique must have han-dling characteristics that allowplacement in the restorativesite without slumping.

• Two increments of nanocom-posite resin (ie, Filtek SupremePlus, 3M ESPE) were placedsimultaneously and contouredto optimal proportion on themesial aspect of the centrals.

• A matrix was placed betweenthe central incisors; compositewas layered against the matrixlingually and pulled throughtoward the facial to ensureproper contour.

• Finishing and polishing wereperformed to render finalanatomy and luster using a #12blade, SofLex disks (3M ESPE),and polishing cups and strips.

Surface characteristicsare rendered with a dia-mond bur without waterirrigation

Epitex strips (GC America) are usedto finish the interproximal region

A finishing disk(SofLex, 3M ESPE) isused to performfacial contouring
