Second Collection
Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity We walked together in harmony in the house of God (Psalm 55: 14).
Next weekend, May 6-7, 2017, on behalf of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, we will be taking a second collection for the Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity. Your contribution goes directly toward emergency needs for children, adults, and families in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties. Your gift provides a one-time emergency help for Food, Utilities, Transportation, Medical, Housing, or Funeral Expenses. You are helping to serve “the neediest of those in need” — children, families and individuals through-out the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for whom no other resources exist. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Annual Candle Engraved Plaques
Effective January 2017, we discontinued the annual candles. There is only one service provider, and they were extremely unreliable and quite costly.
Please pick up your personalized plaque from the church office.
Of course, you are most welcome to use the three candle stations to say a prayer and light a candle.
Please call our office if you have any questions.
This is a prayer we must pray every day:
“Holy Spirit, make my heart open to the word of God, make my heart open to goodness, make my heart open to the beauty of God every day.”
- Pope Francis

to protect children 2017 marks 15 years since the establishment of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The Archdiocese has made an ongoing commitment over the past 15 years to implement the Charter by providing education and tools to help protect children and young people from child sexual abuse and other threats to their safety. Since 2002, the Archdiocese has trained 300,000 adults and more than 1.4 million children. For more information, visit: http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/default.aspx.

VIRTUS® PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN
ADULT AWARENESS TRAINING
VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children Adult Awareness Session is a three-hour
training that helps clergy, staff, volunteers and parents to understand the facts and
myths about child sexual abuse; how perpetrators operate; and how caring adults
can take five important steps to keep children safe. The parent session includes the
importance of monitoring of computers, cell phones and other technology that
perpetrators use to gain access to children and young people.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates this training for all adults working with
children. This education component helps prevent child sexual abuse by first making
every adult employee and volunteer aware of the issues surrounding child sexual
abuse. This includes awareness of the many ways sexual abuse harms its victims,
their families, the parish, and the community. The awareness session also helps
adults learn to recognize the warning signs of abuse and shows them the appropriate
way to respond to suspicious behavior. Finally, the awareness session empowers
each person with five steps to help prevent child sexual abuse. More than 50,000
priests, deacons, parish and school staff members and volunteers have already
participated in these sessions throughout the five Pastoral Regions of the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Our goal is to provide this training to all adults who work
with children so we can work together as a more effective community to prevent child
sexual abuse.
We are preparing for the next VIRTUS® class for our church and school volunteers.
If you need a VIRTUS® class, please contact Ms. Jul Marie at 310-323-0030.
