their service. Finally, I wish to thank 3
people who serve this organization with
distinction and who we would be hard
pressed to exist without them. They are
Manager Jim Rasmussen, Chef Jimmy

It has been an honor and a privilege to
serve all of you. This is an outstanding

you have honored me. As we proceed to May, we have the

Bill Belanger Grand Knight
As I sit here writing my May, June, July
column for the Knight's News, the realiza-
tion comes to me that this is my last col-
umn as my term as your leader ends June
30. As the end draws near I have mixed
emotions. I know that I am going to miss
it, but yet I would not wish to do it again.
Doing it again would be a case of "been
there, done that". The adventure would be
missing. I was told when I started that
"Bill, you can't do everything", and I have
tried not to. I have had the advantage of

Grand Knights Message
On Sunday, May 13th the Marian Council will host its 49th annual Mother’s Day Mass and Breakfast in the Grand Hall with your
fellow Knights as hosts. Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a breakfast buffet to follow. The 4 th Degree Mass committee and Honor
Guard will be in attendance.
The menu this year will consist of your choices of egg dish, sausage, hash browns, fruit, sweet rolls, orange juice, milk, and coffee.
All adults will be offered a complementary glass of champagne and all mothers will receive a beautiful corsage as they arrive. The
price is $9.00 per person with reservations paid in advance or $10.00 at the door. Children 6 years of age and under will be admitted
free. This is a nonprofit event so as not to waste food we ask that you have your paid reservations at the hall by May 9 th.
This will be a great opportunity to show your wife, mother, or grandmother how much you love and appreciate what they do all the
other days of the year. See you there.
There likely be some changes, but most of
the familiar programs and events of the
past will continue.
We, however, need additional members
to step forward and assume leadership and
participating roles in our program areas:
church, community, council, family,
youth, and pro-life. Please consider pro-
gram areas of special interest to you and
let us know how you wish to be part of
our continued services. We need to sus-
tain and expand our efforts in these areas.
And, therefore, we need some 'fresh tal-
ents' to achieve our future goals. So,
please contact me or the hall office (952-
888-1492) and make your interests and
availability known; truly it can be both
worthwhile and enjoyable. Also, be sure
to ask your relatives and friends to join us
as a member and be a part of our efforts.
Have dinner with them in the hall dining
room and approach the subject.
Thanks.
Jim Twyman
Deputy Grand Knight
Deputy Grand Knight’s Message I want to extend a special welcome to
our new, admission members that have
joined us this year. Also, I wish to thank
all of our members who have again ex-
pressed their continued support of our
council. And, we wish to seek their con-
tinuing involvement and active participa-
tion in our programs and activities.
This council year will soon conclude
and another challenging year will begin.
Thanks to Bill Belanger for his leadership
this year. It is now our time for pre-
planning and organizing for the new year.

you have come in to try some of our new
items. If not, please do so at your first
opportunity. We made nine (9) changes
to the menu this quarter and some of the
items are: added Jalapeno Poppers to the
Appetizer menu; added another pasta,
Chicken Linguini; Pecan Crusted Walleye
has returned to the menu; new Chicken
and Beef items have been added as well as
the return of our popular Pork Tenderloin
Medallions. For those looking for a light-
er meal we have added three (3) new
Sandwiches and Wraps for your dining
pleasure.
Knights Fraternal Corp.
Congratulations are in order for Jim
Rasmussen and his entire staff of employ-
ees and volunteers for a continued job
well done. We ended the first quarter
with revenues that exceeded budget by
over $14,000 and net profit that was shy
of budget by $3,000. We continue to do
well and thank each of our members for
your continued support of the club and its
activities. You are important to us and
without you we wouldn’t be where we are
today.
We have made our quarterly menu ad-
justment in mid April and we hope that
In the coming months we will be con-
ducting a Diner Satisfaction Review of
our dining room. This will be 100% vol-
untary but we hope that when you dine
with us you will take the time to fill out
the comment card on your dining experi-
ence. This is how we get to know what
your expectations and desires are. We’ll
use this data to better serve you in the
future.
Thank you all for your continued sup-
port of our facilities.
Jay Taylor
President, Knights Fraternal Corporation
Happy Spring! It's a busy season, and
we can always use a few more volunteers
for our projects. Thanks to everyone who
handed out Tootsie Rolls, and to all our
parish Round Table workers. We still
need help with the Firemen's Softball
Tournament this July. Everyone's wel-
come at our family picnic. Events are on
our website, which recently underwent a
major facelift. New members, please drop
me a line if you'd like to know more about
any of our activities. Remember that we
are a family organization, and LADIES
are an important part of all we do. Do
you know someone who should be an
Auxilian?
I'm thrilled with the success of our
Movie Night. If you missed it, there will
be more. These and all our events are
now broadcast via Facebook, Twitter, and
LinkedIn. It's high time we communicat-
ed with young people through 'their' chan-
nels, and we're seeing new faces at our
family activities. Remember to ask some-
one at church, work or school if he'd like
to learn more about the Knights of Co-
lumbus. Many, many thanks to Orv
Fillbrandt and everyone who brought a
new member into our council this year.
In case you didn't know it, our First De-
gree is now called the Admission Degree.
Our bilingual degree team welcomes
members en Espanol as well as English,
something no other Minnesota council can
do. But we're looking for more Spanish
speakers who can reach out to our Latino
members. We are adding Spanish website
content too.
The other night, my daughter and I en-
joyed dinner at the hall with friends. We
were seated by the elevator and it gets a
lot of use. Hopefully I'll see more of you
at the club this summer ...our food is fab-
ulous, and it's a great place to take visit-
ing family or business associates. Please
remember Marian Hall for your next wed-
ding, graduation, fundraiser or sports ban-
quet. Pictures and rental information are
on our website.
Congratulations to our outgoing offic-
ers, especially Grand Knight Bill Bel-
anger, on a great year.

been a part of the KCs for some 35 years,
dating back to my early years at St. John's

over the past 23 years of my priesthood.
In future newsletters I will share more of
my personal journey. For now, I simply
say "THANK YOU" for this honor.

This year went faster than I thought
possible. At this time, I would like to
thank my Board members: Pat Bruns,
Vice President, Jean Snyder, Secretary,
and Bonnie Lausen, Treasurer. They all
stepped up when called upon. I would
like to further my thanks to all of the com-
mittee chairs, event chairwomen and all of
the volunteers that contributed their time
and talents to the success of this Auxiliary
year. Here are the concluding events for our
Auxiliary: A Spring Birthday Luncheon on Thurs-
day, April 12th was hosted by Chairs
Claire Flynn and Shirley Kovach. A good
time was reported by all. On Tuesday, April 24th, we are encour-
aged to attend, along with our Knights,
the Wild Game Dinner. There will be
roast pork served along with the wild
game entrees, a silent auction (your dona-
tions are welcome ), lots of raffles, inter-
esting games and prize drawings. As you
can tell, it is a fun and fund raising event,
so I hope to see you there. The Minnesota KC’s Auxiliary State
Convention will be held on Saturday,
April 28th in Maple Grove. We hope for a
good representation from our group. Our annual Jean Ingram Memorial Liv-
ing Rosary will be Tuesday, May 1st,
starting at 6:00 p.m. Both Auxiliary
members and spouses are asked to partici-
pate. A light dinner will follow and then
we will have Jordan Harris from MCCL,
who has as her expertise, Senior Pro Life
issues. This will provide us answers for
Respect for Life areas of concern that can
really affect our age group. Our final dinner meeting of the year,
will be Thursday, May 17th. We will in-
troduce and vote for the incoming officers
for 2012-2013. This will be followed by
card playing and/or charitable giving
crafts. Thursday, June 21st, is our annual
Recognition Dinner honoring our top
Auxiliary member along with the Knight
and Family of the Year. Please mark this
date on your calendar and plan to attend. As this is my final newsletter, I wish to
thank Manager Jim Rasmussen, Chef Jim-
my Hurd, Secretary Lisa Wald, Grand
Knight Bill Belanger and all of the
Knights that I had the opportunity to work
with for the Auxiliary that truly helped to
provide me with this memorable experi-

Chaplain’s Message
Dear Fellow Knights,
Easter greetings! Yes, we are in the
midst of our "50-day party" to celebrate
the great news of the Resurrection of our
Lord and Savior. What a wonderful op-
portunity to reflect on and act on how this
great gift affects our lives. How are we
evangelizing the Easter message to our
world?
One of the ways we bring this great
news to life is through our involvement
with the Church. It is no coincidence that
we turn to the Acts of the Apostles for our
first reading throughout the Easter season;
for the A of A is the story of the Church.
Therefore, it is fitting to reflect on this
wonderful gift/responsibility we have
received called "the Catholic Church."
Personally, I am working hard on this
task. In January of this year I began my
service as the pastor of St. Edward's
Church; thus, I am striving to get to know
the gifts/responsibilities of my new com-
munity, and they are doing the same with
me. Yes, new beginnings are challenging;
yet, patience and faith make all the differ-
ence. Please keep me and St. Edwards in
your prayers during this transition time.
Another gift/responsibility I have re-
ceived is the call to be our council's chap-
lain. I thank Grand Knight Bill Belanger
for this honor and I look forward to serv-

The final meeting of this Council year
for the Respect for Life program will fea-
ture a different slant than we have had
from all previous Pro-Life presentations.
Jordan Harris, Legislative Associate with
MCCL, will be our speaker and she will
cover the Pro-Life issues that are pertinent
for the ages of the vast majority of our
membership. Mrs. Harris will provide us
specific background on senior health care,
euthanasia and end of life areas, while
allowing for ample time for questions and
answers at the conclusion of her presenta-
tion, so be ready to be informed in this
subject matter that is certainly impacting
most of us. This Respect for Life program will be
the final part of the Auxiliary’s Annual
Jean Ingram Memorial Living Rosary,
which will be followed by a light dinner,
and will be held in the Knights Room on
Tuesday, May 1st starting at 6:00 p.m.
Auxiliary members and their spouses are
encouraged to attend Seeing that this is my last article for this
year, I would like to briefly recap the
highlights of our program and extend a
few thank you’s to some of our loyal par-
ticipants. I feel that we were once again
able to provide the key leaders as our
speakers from many of the most respected
Pro-Life ministries in the Twin Cities on a
vast array of Respect for Life subjects.
Our gratitude goes out to them for a job of
service well done. In addition, our group
provided the impetus on the Ultrasound
Initiative program from start to finish that
helped secure the unit for North Side Life
Care Center and I am happy to say that
Robbie Dircks, their Executive Director
reports that things are going so well there
that they have been donated a second
building that is in a location that will even
better reach and serve their clients in need
and will become the new home for their
ultrasound unit. Our thanks go out to all
the KC’s and religious groups that part-
nered with us to accomplish this objective .I would like to give my closing appre-
ciation by singling out members of our
committee that have been loyal to our
cause not only this year, but for almost
every meeting that I have been involved
with. They are as follows: Betty
Cavanaugh, as Secretary/Treasurer and
for preparing the December Holiday
treats and her husband, Lenny who calls
for attendance, whenever his health per-
mits; Marilyn and Tom Mantel for lead-
ing us in the Rosary; Rita Peller, Harriet
and Joe Schepers and Beth and Dave
’Doc‘ Williams for their faithful attend-
ance and meeting input. Our first meeting of the new Council
year will be Monday, October 1st at 7:30
p.m. in the Madonna Room, so please
plan to attend this one and every one that
you can because we really want your
support for this very worthwhile cause.
In the meantime, we will work on the
2012/2013 program schedule and hope to
have back many of the past Pro-Life min-
istries and some new innovative presenta-
tions that will attract your attention and
interest, as well Pat Rickert
Chair Respect for Life Committee
Respect Life
Welcome back to the snowbirds! We’re
looking forward to having you, and any-
one else who hasn’t been at the hall lately,
stop by. Our menu fluctuates with the
seasons and, with summer approaching,
it’s time for a change. We offer salads
and burgers plus a full menu Wednesday
through Saturday evenings. Think of us
after that round of golf or come in to
watch a few innings of the Twins game
and have a beer.
Mark your calendars now for July 20 –
22. The Knights are sponsoring the 54th
Annual Fireman’s Softball Tournament
Manager’s Message
and will be looking for volunteers to man
the beer tent. It’s enjoyable and a great
way to meet fellow Knights.
Make sure you read the Knight News
and flyers concerning upcoming events.
A few to point out are the Mother’s Day
Mass and Brunch on May 13, the Knight’s
Recognition Dinner on Thursday, June 21,
and Big Band dances on May 11, June 15
and July 13.
Thanks to Grand Knight Bill Belanger
and his officers for the wonderful job they
did this past year. Welcome to the new
Grand Knight and his officers. Please
give them the continued support you’ve
shown in the past.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Hope to see everyone at the Council Pic-
nic on Sunday, July 29.

Bridge the gap between faith and everyday life on
We wish to thank the members of St. Peter, St. Olaf and St. Patrick for preparing and serving the breakfast in
January. We made $320 for the benefit of the hall. In February, we thank members of Risen Savior, Our Lady of
Peace and St. Bonaventure for taking care of that breakfast. $270 was profited for the benefit of the council. We
will not have any lounge breakfast again until the fall.

Navigator’s Message
The 4th Degree has several functions
to go before the end of the Assembly year
on July 1st. After the 4th Degree Exem-
plification on April 21 we are having a
New Member Recognition Dinner for
those who joined our ranks prior to our
meeting on May 16. After that we are
participating in the Memorial Day Parade
in Bloomington. Shortly afterwards we
are having a Flag Day program on June 14
under the leadership of Faithful Pilot
Ralph Bartolotta. Following that event
we will participate in the annual Richfield
4th of July Parade.
These patriotic functions define us and
what we stand for in our fraternal order.
We are always looking for more knights
from the 3rd Degree to join us to increase
our numbers and to exemplify our princi-
ple of Patriotism.

Movie Night You might be asking yourself how was
history made. Well back on February 3rd,
we hosted the first ever Christian Movie
Night at the K of C Hall. At this event we
had about 94 attendees that ranged in age
from young adults to senior citizens.
About half of the attendees were not
members of our council. We are excited
to let you know that on May 18th, 2012
we will be hosting the next installment in
our series of movies.
This time the movie is going to be
called Flywheel. Flywheel was made on a
very limited budget as it is the first movie
produced by Sherwood Pictures, the mov-
ie-making ministry of a Georgia church
that went on to produce Facing The Gi-
ants in 2006 and Fireproof a few years
ago. Flywheel offers the same faith-filled
warmth and humor that audiences loved in
Facing The Giants and Fireproof. The
Kendrick Brothers wrote both films and
Flywheel also stars Alex Kendrick (Coach
Grant Taylor). Flywheel will have you
cheering (and crying) once again!
So why not come out and join us on
Friday, May 18th for another great movie!
This time it’s about how Jay Austin wants
to sell used cars in the worst way ... and
that's exactly how he does business at his
dealership. Promising much more than he
can ever deliver, he'll do whatever it takes
to sell a car. His manipulative ways per-
meate all of his relationships—even his
wife and son know they can't trust him.
But as Jay works on restoring a classic
convertible, he begins to see that God is
working on restoring him as well. Com-
ing face-to-face with the reality of how he
truly conducts himself, Jay Austin begins
the ride of his life as he commits to honor-
ing God with his business, his relation-
ships, and his life!
It’s not often you can go out and see a
movie for free so we ask that you please
consider joining us and bringing a friend.
When you come please be aware that the
entrance to see the movie is free but we
will be selling concessions, popcorn, and
have a free will offering.

First, a Big Thank You to the members
that made personal contributions to help
pay for the new Roof Top heating and
cooling unit. It was a big ticket item at
$21,000 and the personal contributions go
a long way. If you haven’t contributed
yet and would like to there is still time.
Just send in your donation to the office
and note on the check that the donation is
for the building fund.
Our Board Vice President, Greg Bruns
continues to lead our efforts in the area of
Energy Conservation. Greg recently coor-
dinated the installation of one digital set-
back thermostats in the Madonna Room
and four in the Grand Hall. This action
should conserve energy and save money
as we will not be heating and cooling the
areas when they are not in use. These
improvements are part of our overall ener-
gy conservation program. A recent ener-
gy usage audit prepared by Greg identi-
fied that our electric usage in 2011 is
down about 5% from 2009. When you
Home Association calculate the cost savings of the 5% it
amounts to about $4,400. In addition, our
business in 2011 was quite a bit stronger
than in 2009 so the actual saving is much
more.
Have you been in the Madonna Room
lately? If so you probably have seen our
new couches. We recently replaced the
two white leather couches with brand new
brown suede couches. They really update
the look and add a bit of elegance. The
replacement idea was forwarded by
Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator Joe
Novak. In addition to his good idea Joe
also helped to fund the project with a
$250.00 donation from the Fourth Degree.
The remainder of the cost was funded
through the building fund. Joe thanks for
noticing the need for an improvement and
most importantly helping to fund it!
Your Home Association Board responds
to both building emergencies as well as
manages a program to maintain our prop-
erty. The maintenance program involves
a number of volunteer Knights that work
on a regular basis to address various
items. The group is led by Board Mem-
bers Julian Hynnek and John Kovach with
special support from Deacon Jim
McLaughlin for painting projects. Each
of these Board members has a team of
Knights that they call as tasks are identi-
fied. They then work rather silently with
the Fraternal staff to get it done. These
task range from repainting the Knights
Room to replacing the door latch on the
walk in cooler to replacing the pool table
lights in the lounge. These efforts keep
the facility in top condition. The next
time you are in the Hall look around and I
think you will be proud how well our Fif-
ty plus year old building is being cared
for. And if you happen to see someone
working on it please thank them or better
yet ask how you can help.

Golden Anniversary
As we enhance our council website, the
need has emerged for members-only con-
tent. Don't worry; we're not shrouding
our digital front door in secrecy. Most
content, including the calendar, will be
public. But most organizations limit ac-
cess to the member directory, meeting
minutes, and referenda. We must keep up
with the times.
Check your spam settings, so you're not
blocking kofc3827.com emails. Make
sure you're not over your mailbox's size
limit. And watch for an email from the
Marian Council with your username and
password.
You do not need to "log in" every time
you visit the website, only when viewing
"members only" pages. Click the "lost
password" link if you lose your creden-
tials. Simply enter your email address and
the system will reply with your password.
If we do not have your email address,
drop us a line at market-

email regularly, make arrangements with
a family member or neighbor so we can
stay in touch.
