Sponsored by the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Marin Catholic is a community that values faith, knowledge, and service. These values are interwoven into every aspect of our school life. Marin Catholic is not only an exceptional college preparatory school, but also a Catholic one, dedicated to developing the spiritual lives of all of our students and fostering generosity through service to others. We are committed to instilling these values in our students.

The young men and women entering Marin Catholic are dedicated, accomplished students, willing and able to undertake the chal-lenges of a college preparatory program and inspired to make their unique contribution to the school community. Our administrators, faculty, and staff are dedicated to maintaining a dynamic, student-centered environment, one that affords our young women and men every opportunity to achieve excellence.

Marin Catholic welcomes students from all over Marin and its neighboring Bay Area counties. Our campus sits on 14 acres in Kent-field, at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, less than ten minutes from Highway 101. Students are drawn from a broad spectrum of social, ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds.

We welcome visitors to our campus to see and experience, first hand, what it means to be a member of the MC community.

Our Mission

Marin Catholic is a college preparatory school serving young men and women in the Roman Catholic tradition. Consistent with our Gospel values, we are committed to the education of the whole person. As a community, we provide one of the finest spiritual, academic, and extra-curricular environments anywhere.

We expect our students, through their experiences in the classroom and as active members of the school community, to develop the attributes of an educated person: responsibility, both personal and social; critical thinking ability; and appreciation for the complexity of the world around us. We instill in our students the confidence that will empower them, as informed and compassionate individu-als, to effect change in our world. We are committed to learning as a lifelong process

Marin Catholic provides a challenging college preparatory curriculum for all students. Along with the development and enhancement of essential skills, the required course of study encourages exploration and self-reflection. Successful completion of the academic program, which includes choosing the most rigorous course of study one can, qualifies a student for admission to the most competitive colleges and universities.

Our students enroll in seven courses each semester, with an average class size of 23 students. Additional challenges are offered, at all grade levels, through our Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) program. Incoming students who meet criteria and are admitted with Honors at Entrance automatically meet the prerequisite for admission to honors courses available to freshmen.

Students who are not admitted with Honors at Entrance, but who wish to be considered for honors courses, must meet minimum criteria and take a series of challenge tests. At the sophomore, junior, and senior levels, opportunities to take these courses increase. Students who meet academic qualifications are eligible to enroll in honors courses at any time.

Our FacultyThe strength and dedication of its faculty is one element that sets Marin Catholic apart from other schools. As teachers, counselors, advi-sors, coaches and activity moderators, the faculty and staff ensure the mission of our school is fulfilled and each student finds his or her place within our community.

Allowing us to share our faith, joys, challenges, and questions in a supportive, Christ-centered environment, Campus Ministry is the heart of Marin Catholic. Campus Ministry offers many opportunities that provide students with a chance to grow in their own spirituality. As part of the Campus Ministry program, students also have the opportunity to build their leadership skills as they bear witness to their faith by planning school liturgies, participating in Masses, guiding retreats, and partaking in daily prayer.

Marin Catholic has a four-year comprehensive retreat program that builds intellectually, spiritually, and socially from a student’s previous experience. The culminating senior retreat, Kairos, allows students to spend four days in contemplation, reflecting on their relationship with God, self, family, and friends. Our retreat program helps students rekindle and deepen their relationship with God, love and appreciate their individual gifts and talents and the blessing of family and friends, and inspire them to use their gifts and talents in service to others.

An integral part of the educational experience at Marin Catholic is our Christian Service Program. The program invites students to live out the school’s mission of faith, knowledge, and service by connecting them to the actions of Christ directly through the curriculum. As a school, we want students to reflect on their service, to gain understanding about people’s lives, and witness how society cares for and treats its most vulnerable members. The focus on social justice and Catholic Social Teaching demonstrates our responsibility to the greater world while living out our Gospel values.

Marin Catholic’s athletic program offers more opportunities than any California school north of the Golden Gate Bridge. With 29 varsity sports teams and 85% student participation, the Wildcats tradition-ally finish in the top 2-3 spots in the Marin County Athletic League. In addition to the numerous championships, Marin Catholic annually wins several North Coast Section Scholastic banners. From 2007- 2009, the North Coast Section recognized every varsity team as a Scholastic Honor Team. Although success is an important part of the athletic pro-gram, the cornerstone of Marin Catholic athletics is building character, developing responsibility, and promoting sportsmanship.

The Marin Catholic counselor’s primary purpose is to oversee each student’s academic and personal growth, while planning for the future of a college education. Beginning freshman year, each student is as-signed a counselor for the duration of his or her stay at Marin Catholic. The consistency of this relationship allows the counselor to develop a genuine understanding of the student and his or her individual strengths and challenges. Counselors direct yearly standardized testing, including the Advanced Placement program, student-parent academic and college prep nights, college representative visits, and student course selection.

The counselors also assist in serving students in need and coordinate preventative education with peer counselors. We believe in develop-ing a student’s sense of personal responsibility, decision-making skills, and understanding consequences.

ACAdEMIC sUPPOrt

The Academic Support Center program is designed to support Marin Catholic students with diagnosed learning differences who meet admissions criteria. Students have the opportunity to meet with our specially trained staff in an elective class or during consultation sessions to receive supplemental instruction that includes course-related study skills development. Areas of focus include organization/time-management, content areas study strategies, note taking, test preparation, individual learning strategies, reading and writing strate-gies, and long-term planning. The goal of the program is for these Marin Catholic students to become more proficient learners and self-advocates in order to promote a successful high school experience, as they prepare to move on to higher education.

COLLEgE PLACEMENt

100% of Marin Catholic graduates are admitted to college each year, with 95% of the Class of 2010 attending four-year colleges or universi-ties. The array of schools listed on the 2010 college acceptance report represents the diverse interests of our students.

Students have been accepted to world-renowned universities such as Harvard, Princeton, and Duke. Others have enrolled in the most esteemed Catholic Universities, like Georgetown and Boston College. Still others have received prestigious appointments, such as the United States Military Academy at Westpoint. Traditionally, over 20% have enrolled in the U.C. system, with most attending Berkeley, Los Angeles, Davis, and Santa Barbara. Graduates have also chosen campuses in the California State University system. We are very proud of all our students’ successes.
