InstallatIonConsisting of objects, pictures (namely photographs and drawings) and sound, each element is both autonomous and combinable with other elements. Every combination is temporarily set and can be changed at any time. this could be done by producing variations in how things are arranged or by broadening it by introducing new elements.
spaCEthis often frames the installation. particular views will be photographed and later used as images, combined with objects and other pictures.
pErspECtIvEthe installations are planned as accessible pictures, which transform with every step the viewer takes due to his / her changing perspective. Many different visual axes are generated through this movement. their 3-dimensionality makes for numerous potential images which change in accordance to the viewers perspective.
tEMporalItyIn each installation its elements can appear simultaneously or subsequently to each other. If they happen to appear in different installations they can also appear one after another. through this constant change, each element gains its own history. this will be documented in photos which can appear as pictures in further installations.
lIghtas a very important aspect within space it illuminates and reflects particular parts of the pieces shown or lets them form shadows and thus emphasizes them. the integration of light and the use of shadows are important elements within each image.
shapEEach element is neither completely abstract nor completely figurative. they can be both, depending on combination and perspective. therefore they become inconclusive. through formal repetition, variation and doubling the content is thereby influenced. ForMulatIonEach piece of work is an attempt to create visual precision by means of materiality, shape, reversion, analogies, variation, shifts and perspective. It is very important that none of the elements are permanently set, in order to change constantly by being extended, reduced or altered.
Pictorial thinking
Pictures allow the incoherent to be combined and connections between different things to be made. Despite their sometimes contradictory contexts, motifs and images can be put together in one picture.
Their aesthetic appearance generates the image‘s atmosphere through the interaction of its different components. This is caused by the material’s qualities as well as by the specific shapes it has been given and the way the pieces are combined within the installation. Its surface can be described by language, yet certain aesthetic affects are beyond language. They contain an aesthetic quality which is caused by the way things look but cannot be reduced to its description.
Each object shown in the installation is not an exact reproduction of an culturally important object even though its shape deliberately resembles them. These objects have a certain meaning within a cultural classification system and therefore they are readable within their context. By filtering, transforming, combining and arranging, cultural codes and quotations are addressed and brought into a new and specific narrative.

biography
Marthe Krüger is a visual artist and is currently completing her Ph.D project under Christoph Türcke at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. In 2012 she completed her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts (Diplom Bildende Kunst) in Leipzig. In 2007 she completed an undergraduate program in communication design (Diplom Design) at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
