Child Safety Handbook The “NSW Police Legacy Child Safety Handbook” is a comprehensive resource to assist parents, carers as well as teachers on a range of topics essen al to child safety. The handbook has been updated to in‐clude key messages about bush fire safety given the unprecedented fires we experienced recently. The updated online edi on (link below) also includes important content updates from: NSW Ministry of Health, NSW Police Force, Fire and Rescue NSW, Rural Fire NSW, Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains, NSW Department of Family & Community Services, eSafety Commissioner and NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian. Here are the links where the digital handbook can be viewed: NSW Police Legacy website – h ps://www. policelegacynsw.org.au/ resources/ Child Safety Hub website – h p://nsw.childsafetyhub.com.au/handbook/

Digital Citizenship We all have a responsibility as parents/carers to maintain control over what and how much our children are seeing on screens. No age is too young to model good digital behaviour. Remember not to fall prey to the age old child gripe “everyone else is allowed to do it”. I can’t emphasized enough the importance of the central loca on of screens in the home, the addic ve nature of technology (and that’s not just for the children) and the importance for talk, about what they’re doing, how it makes them feel and how to alert an adult when inappropriate content pops up. Be aware for: changes in behaviour, not wan ng to join family meals and events, and the meltdowns when devices are removed or shut down. Advice is to establish the device usage rules out of the conflict zone (i.e. when using a device) and provide favourable alterna ves when me’s up: let’s take the dog for a walk, play footy in the backyard etc. You can read more on the website h ps://themodernparent.net/. In our busy world we some mes forget to reinforce the nice es with our children. Fortunately at Mascot many children excel in these.

NEWS FROM 2D 2D have had a wonderful start to the year; se ling in well to our new classroom, making new friends and reconnec ng with friends from last year. During our Grow Your Mind sessions, we have watched the Kindness Boomerang video on Youtube and

had a discussion about kindness. We created our own boomerangs a er a discussion about kindness.

We also worked in pairs to create a Kindness High Five on Seesaw, thinking about what it means to be

kind to others.

Gardening News! We have been busy bees this year ge ng our veggie patch up and running ready for our students to learn. Big shout out to the regulars that help out in the garden: Jess and Shayna. We value your constant support. Massive shout out to Troy who has worked so hard not only tending to the veggie garden but also mowing around the bed. Now our students can move through the space safe and easily! We cannot wait to pick our first crop and share it all with you! Any other interested parents who would like to help in our veggie garden, please see Ms Melissa Poyn ng! All welcome!

SEDA College All stage 2 and 3 students are par cipa ng in a cricket and NRL program run by SEDA

College. This is a 4 week program that aims to get our kids moving while developing new

skills and having fun. The first session didn’t disappoint. Lot of fun was had by all.

Zone Swimming Carnival On Tuesday 3rd of March a small group of students represented Mascot PS at the annual South Sydney Zone swimming carnival. Rain was predicted but we all arrived at Botany pool in high spirits and sheltered under our Mascot PS tent. All students participated in their events showing great team enthusiasm. Good luck to Mikayla who will be swimming at the regional swimming carnival at Homebush on the 17th March.
