“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
make your requests known to God.” (PHILIPPIANS 4:6)
St. Paul reminds us that our God is an abundant God, the ultimate giver of gifts. He promises to
give us all that we need. When we trust that God will take care of us, it is easier for us to share
what we have been given.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
GATHERING HYMN The Whole World Is Waiting for Love
Third Sunday of Advent Cycle C
FIRST READING ZEP 3:14-18A
Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The LORD has removed the judgment against you he has turned away your
enemies; the King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to fear. On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged! The LORD, your
God, is in your midst, a mighty savior; he will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, he will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals.
HOMILY
RESPONSORIAL PSALM IS 12
SECOND READING PHIL 4:4-7
Brothers and sisters: Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that sur-passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
GOSPEL LK 3:10-18
The crowds asked John the Baptist, “What should we do?” He said to them in reply, “Whoever
has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we
do?” He answered them, “Stop collecting more than what is prescribed.” Soldiers also asked him, “And what is it that we should do?” He told them, “Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse
anyone, and be satisfied with your wages.”
Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one
mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to
gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people.

NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things
visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before
all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came
down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became
man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and
rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the
right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his
kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver
of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is
adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic
Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the
world to come. Amen.
