About the Cover – “Lord Jesus Christ, by your own three days in the tomb, you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you and so made the grave a sign of hope that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies.” So begins a prayer of blessing of the grave at a burial. Before 1865, London-area Catholics seeking burial in consecrated ground were interred in Springfield. Founding pastor, Fr. John Mary Conway, to remedy that situation, founded St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In early 1865, he purchased four acres south of London on what is now State Route 56 for $400.00, with an additional $396.00 spent on fencing, landscaping and plotting. The first burial was that of John Keogh in the following April. A number of families then relocated the bodies of their loved ones from Springfield to the new cemetery. Over the years, additional acreage was added and in 1928 a “Priests’ Circle” was set aside for their burial. Among these priests is Fr. Conway, later pastors, and sons of the parish. An interesting “factoid” is that all of them were priests of the Cincinnati Archdiocese. The bulletin cover shows the crucifix that marks the Priests’ Circle “Dedicated to the many priests who served St. Patrick Parish.” The maple tree in autumn glory was donated in memory of a young child. This memorial tree is one of many planted in the last 15 years to enhance the beauty of our cemetery. Our parish takes great pride in providing a fitting burial place for our departed loved ones as the burial of the dead is one of the great works of corporal mercy. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

The Book of the Names of the Dead will be displayed during the month of November near the baptismal font with the burning Easter candle – signs of the Resurrection. You are invited to inscribe the names of your beloved departed in this book. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE NOVEMBER 24, 2019

A Message from Father HinterschiedA blessed Solemnity of Christ the King! This feast serves as a two-fold reminder to us that we must reject secular nationalism, that Catholics around the world recognize our common (and uncommon) King, and the Final Coming, when all things will be subjected to Christ, Who will come in the fullness of His Glory. If you attend either 7:30 or 10:30 Masses today, please welcome Fr. Michael Lumpe, Vice Rector of the College of Liberal Arts at the Pontifical College Josephinum. At that time, I will be filling in at Holy Family in Franklinton. The rest of this week, I will be away on retreat to the Carmel of the Holy Name in Denmark, WI.We will have Mass on Thanksgiving Day, 8:00 a.m., offered by Fr. Brett Garland, parochial vicar of St. Mary Magdalene, St. Agnes, and St. Aloysius.Beginning next week, we start Advent and a new liturgical year. One of the biggest "new" things you will notice will be in the pews, The Ignatius Pew Missal, y en español, Canta la Misa. I have decided to make this change for three simple reasons: financial, singing the Mass, and congregational singing. This missal is one of the most economical missalettes on the market, so it's an easy choice in order to reduce our expenses. Second is this missal includes musical settings of the Propers of the Mass set to simple, easily-sung and sacred chant melodies. In addition, it offers an excellent repertoire of over 200 hymns. Thirdly, this missal has been specifically designed to encourage the participation of the congregation in singing the Mass (as opposed to singing at Mass) by focusing on music that is simple and easily learned. I look forward to our voices singing new songs to the Almighty!

– Rev. Fr. Michael Hinterschied, Pastor, St. Patrick Church
