Pastor’s Corner Dear Parishioners,

Happy Father’s Day to all of our dads! Thank you for

your yes to striving to be the best father that you can be, the

father that you are called to be to your children.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi also known as the

Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. This is a day when we

re-emphasize the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. This is a teaching

that so many people, including Catholics, either do not understand or do not

embrace or in many cases are not even aware of it. We believe that during the

prayers of consecration during the Mass (during the Eucharistic prayer, when

everyone is kneeling) that the Holy Spirit changes the bread and wine into the body

and blood of Jesus Christ.

Why do so many people have a hard time with this teaching? In my

opinion: first, it’s very hard for so many to believe that that the bread and wine are

transformed into Jesus’ body and blood because the Eucharistic species still look

and taste like bread and wine. It’s not obvious through the normal human senses

that we have Jesus’ body and blood present. In order to recognize this truth, it

requires a conscious act of faith. Second, much teaching over the years has

become watered down. Third, I personally feel that we have lost a lot of the

mystical and the reverence in so many of our churches. Fourth, in our changing

world, so many people only believe what they can perceive through the senses or

through science. It is unfortunate and sad that so many people have put limits on

the power of God.

It is on this feast that we celebrate the 9th anniversary of our Msgr. Lirette

Perpetual Adoration chapel. Yes, it was opened nine years ago in 2008. Many

thanks to all of our adorers and especially to Ron Peña, the head of this ministry

who does such a swell job and touches the hearts of so many.

Both school are out!!! However, summer school is an option. If you have

a child interested in summer school, we offer summer school programs at both of

our schools. Please note that both summer school programs are CO-ED. Even

though our high school is all girls, summer school is co-ed. Please take advantage

of our offerings!

More quotes from Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si:

“The entire material universe speaks of God’s love, his boundless affection

for us. Soil, water, mountains: everything is, as it were, a caress of God.” (n. 84)

“This situation has led to a constant schizophrenia, wherein a technocracy

which sees no intrinsic value in lesser beings coexists with the other extreme,

which sees no special value in human beings.” (n. 118)

Travelling this summer? Check out masstimes.org for information on

consider continuing to support your parish.

Summer peace and love,

Capital Campaign

On May 16th, Ministry Leaders and other members of the Parish came together for the Leadership Summit. Fa-

ther Jim, fundraising consultant Janet Levine, and Deacon Ron Baker walked the participants though the importance of

a Parish Center for Holy Family and the capital campaign that will support this project.

Father Jim talked about how most churches our size have a Parish Center that creates a center for the many

programs and ministries of the Church. Showing how today, a family coming to join the church and sign their two chil-

dren up for Religious Education and EDGE or confirmation would require them to go to three different buildings in three

different locations on the campus, Father Jim highlighted why a Parish Center is needed. More, the Parish Center would

provide permanent spaces for our ministries and programs such as our Food Bank.

To build the Parish Hall will require fundraising—about $8 Million worth of fundraising. And this must be in addi-

tion to the support parishioners and others already give to Holy Family. Our consultant talked about how the campaign

must be an “and” gift for each and every donor to the campaign—and how it should be a sacrificial gift. That is, support

for the Parish Center is not just over and above your regular offertory giving and attendance at fundraising events, it

must be a larger gift, one that is a stretch and may make you consider what you will sacrifice in order to make that gift.

Janet also talked about how the campaign will be conducted in phases and the importance of members of Holy

Family being part of the various committees that will be set up. Deacon Ron walked the audience through what needs to

happen next. On the facilities side, an architect will be hired, plans for the Center must be approved, and, of course, we

must ensure that these plans include adequate parking.

As we move from the planning phase into actually raising funds for the building, Deacon Ron assured everyone

that there will be brochures and drawings to show our prospective donors as well as training and support for those who

will be doing to asks.

Many in the audience shared success stories from other churches and commented on the strength of commu-

nity that Holy Family brings to this effort. They and others indicated their interest in serving on committees to help the

campaign succeed.

While most of the audience was enthusiastic about the Parish Hall—and the promise of adequate parking—

there were some concerns raised about cost, location, and whether it was necessary to build a new building rather than

renovate one already built. Deacon Ron pointed out that the cost of materials and construction have gone up substan-

tially since the last large project undertaken at Holy Family. What cost $1 million then would be many times that amount

if done today.

As the project moves forward, we know there will be many other questions. Deacon Ron welcomes your calls

and emails on the project, the master plan, and the campaign. Over the next several months, look to the bulletin for up-

dates and opportunities to be involved in this exciting project.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
