Master Degree in Industrial Chemistry
Campus Città Studi Chemistry Department Via Golgi 19
What is industrial chemistry? • The development, optimization and monitoring of fundamental chemical processes used in industry for transforming raw materials and precursors into useful commercial products for society. How is it important and relevant for us ? • Industrial chemistry plays a vital role as an applied science in diverse areas that influence human society ranging from economic, environmental and political stability.
From the old paradigm…..
Research in Labs
.….to the new paradigm
Research in laboratories
Changing Demands in Education
•Facts knowledge, skills • where to get & how to select info
• Skills competences, experience
• Skills related to use of Information Technology
• Individual team work
• Mono-disciplinary multi-disciplinary teams
• Internationalization: master degree in English
• Multi cultural aspects
A chemist must guarantee to the society*: • A safe and clean environment
• Human health
• Improvment in the human life quality *Consiglio Nazionale dei Chimici (http://www.chimici.it/cnc.fileadmin/figura/codice_deontologico.pdf )
Professional Ethics
Suitable knowledge to do an autonomous and responsible work in industrial chemistry Ability in management activity and to realize industrial and research projects, such as new products and materials characterization, new technologies and the development of a plant from the bench to the industrial scale.
Which type of industrial chemist we want to train?
Ability to interact with other industrial partners (engineering, marketing, patents ecc.) involved in the research, development and production. Ability to manage human resources and instruments and to answer to the R&D demand, quality control consistent with the legislations and with the productive processes.
Manager in private or public Companies in the field of
energy, human health, environment and public
administration both in R&D and marketing activities.
Head of R&D in pre-industrial and industrial plants in
many industrial sectors.
Expert in the field of patents and in all activities of
promotion and development of the scientific and
technological innovation.
Professional Outcome
EUROMASTER®
The Master’s degree in Industrial chemistry of the Università degli Studi di Milano has been among the first ones in Italy to gain the EuroMaster Label. The EuroMaster Label is assigned by a special jury purposely appointed by the European Thematic Association, gathering European universities and chemical societies. The EuroMaster Label certifies the educational qualification provided by the Master’s Degree Course in Industrial Chemistry as a master’s degree recognized by the European Universities and gives the right to access the post-graduate courses of chemistry at the
European level.

Free-choice elective courses Each student must earn 12 credits by selecting freely two courses between all the teachings activated, offered by the University, provided they coherent with the educational project.
THESIS RESEARCH LABORATORY 39 credits
During the second year the students must attend the one-year thesis research laboratory; the parallel frequency of the expected courses is included. An opportunity to growth as a researcher, to learn how to work in team, to learn by papers published in literature, to speak with students involved in the same topic all over the world. The possibility to live the life of a researcher in the field the student thinks it could be the best choice for her/him. All the teaching staff give s great importance to this unique moment in a student life to learn and growth and understand what she/he will wish to do after.
