Must have been on vessels over 100 GRT; OR A Chief Mate or 2nd Mate Oceans/ Near Coastal over GRT, is eligible for this endorsement upon completion of a limited examination. If testing for 2nd Mate AGT, must pass 2nd Mate exam(s) including Flashing Light A mariner who qualified for a Mate 500/1600 Near Coastal by completed a Coast Guard approved program may raise the grade of their endorsement to Master 500 Near Coastal or Oceans by providing 360 days of service as Master/Mate on Ocean or Near Coastal (Up to 180 days may be on inland or Great Lakes) vessels while holding an endorsement as such OF WHICH 180 days must be on vessels over 100 GRT. 720 days of service on Ocean or Near Coastal waters, OF WHICH 360 days must be on Ocean or Near Coastal Waters, AND 360 days of service over 100 GRT, AND 180 days of service as AB, Boatswain, Quartermaster, or equivalent position on vessels over 100 GRT while holding certification as AB. Near Coastal

1440 days of service on Ocean or Near Coastal Waters, OF WHICH

Service on Great Lakes & Inland waters MAY be substitute for up to 720 days of the required service, AND

720 Days of service on vessels over 100 GRT, AND720 days MUST have been as a master, mate; mate or mate (pilot) towing vessels or equivalent supervisory position while holding an endorsement as master, mate, master or mate (pilot) of towing vessels, AND

1080 days of service on Ocean or Near Coastal vessels over 200 GRT, AND

180 days of service as AB.

Great Lakes & Inland

1080 total days of service on vessels OF WHICH

540 days of service on vessels over 100 GRT, AND

360 days of service as Master, Mate, equivalent supervisory position on vessels over 100 GRT while holding an Officer Endorsement as Master, Mate or Master Towing, OR

180 days as operator of vessels over 100 GRT while holding Master of Towing Vessels.

720 Days of deck service on steam, motor, or sail vessels; OF WHICH

360 days of service on vessels over 100 GRT, AND

180 days of service as AB, Boatswain, Quartermaster, or equivalent position on vessels over 100 GRT while holding a certificate or endorsement as AB.

360 days of service as Master or OUPV on vessels over 50 GRT while holding licensed/ MMC endorsement Master NMT 200 GRT or OUPV OR

180 days of service Mate (Pilot) of Towing of over 100 GRT (Mate of Towing Vessels does not

Near Coastal/ Oceans:360 days on 50 GRT sail or auxiliary sail vessel and an approved course.

Receny: 90 Days in the past 3 years on vesselsMinimum Age Required: 19 years

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Completed USCG Application including sea-time documentation• USCG Physical Examination • USCG Drug Test• Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)• USCG Examinations

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

• First Aid/CPR 8 hours(Completed within one year)

• Personal Safety and Social Responsibility 4 hours

• Personal Survival Techniques 16 hours(Required for Near Coastal/Oceans)

• Basic and Advanced Firefighting 40 hours

• Radar Observer Unlimited 40 hours(Required for Near Coastal/Oceans)

• Proficiency in Survival Craft (Lifeboatman) Course 40 hours(Required for Near Coastal/Oceans)

• Able Seaman 80 hours(Required for Near Coastal/Oceans)

• Bridge Resource Management 24 hours(Required for Near Coastal/Oceans)(Fulfills sections of requirements of OICNW Assessments)

• Celestial Navigation 80 hours (Required for Oceans) (Fulfills sections of requirements of OICNW Assessments)

• Medical Care Provider 24 hours (Required for Mate Near Coastal/Oceans)

• Flashing Light 8 hours(Required for Mate Near Coastal/Oceans)

• Auxiliary Sail 4 hours (Required for AuxilarySail Endorsement)

• FCC License Self Study

• Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) 32 hours(Fulfills sections of requirements of OICNW Assessments)

• Master/Mate 500/1600 Ton Prep 120 hours(Examinations for 500 ton license is held at applicants local regional exam center)
