TIME IS RUNNING OUT!The Hatcher Pass/Government Peak Recreational Area Access project timber that was cleared from the site will be made available beginning Saturday, July 21, and ending Saturday, August 4. A $25 permit is required and may be obtained from the Land & Resource Management Division between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri. beginning Wednesday, July 18 at the Mat-Su Borough Administration Building, Dorothy Swanda Jones Building, located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer. The permit must be in your possession during the removal of wood from the site. The cost for each cord of wood is $25 with a maximum of three cords per household per year. Please call the Land & Resource Management Division at 745-9869 if you have any questions.
Locations and dates for removal will be posted on the Hatcher Pass Recreation Area’s Facebook page and on the project’s website at www.matsugov.us/projects/hatcherpass.

The Butte Personal Use Firewood Harvest Area will open Friday, August 3, 2012. This area is designated as personal use only for harvest of dead-down and/or dead-standing spruce. A $25 permit is required and may be obtained from the Land & Resource Management Division between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri. beginning Wednesday, August 1 at the Mat-Su Borough Administration Building, located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer. The permit must be in your possession during the removal of wood from the site. The cost for each cord of wood is $25 with a maximum of three cords per household per year from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The permit will expire after all available wood has been re-moved but no later than December 31, 2012. Please call the Land & Resource Management Division at 745-9869 if you have any questions.

NATURAL GAS LOCAL IMPROVEMENTDISTRICTs (L.I.D.)
The assembly of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough will hold a public hearing during the 6:00 p.m. assembly meeting on August 21, 2012 at the Mat-Su Borough School District Admin Building located at 501 North Gulkana St Palmer, Alaska, on the ordinances for the natural gas local improvement districts listed below. The purpose of the public hearing on the ordinances is to determine whether to create the natural gas local improvement districts, approve the improvement plans, authorize the manager to proceed with the improvements and assess the total costs of the improvements against the benefited properties creating a lien on each property assessed. The estimated total cost of the improvements and estimated assessment against each property is set forth below. The estimated cost stated is subject to change. The actual cost to be assessed will be determined upon completion of construction.
The assembly, for the natural gas improvement district, may proceed with the improvements if owners of properties within the district bearing more than fifty percent of the estimated total cost of the improvements, return ballots marked “yes” to the Finance Department, attention Michael Newman, prior to 5 p.m. on August 17, 2012.

Absentee By-Mail. You may vote by mail prior to Election Day. Absentee By-Mail ballot request applications are available online at www.matsugov.us/election or you may request an application by calling 907-745-9683. In order to process your request, applications must be received by the Clerk’s Office no later than Sept. 25, 2012.
Absentee In-Person. You may vote in person prior to Election Day at any of the following absentee voting locations:
• Division of Elections Office in Wasilla 1700 E. Bogard Rd. (North Fork Professional Bldg. B, Suite 102) September 17 – October 1, 2012 Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All ballot types are available at this location.
• Borough Gym in Palmer 350 E. Dahlia Avenue September 17 – October 2, 2012 Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All ballot types are available at this location, except that city ballots (Houston, Palmer and Wasilla)
will not be available on October 2.
Additionally, absentee-in person voting will take place September 17 – October 1, 2012, at City Hall in the cities of Houston, Palmer, and Wasilla, as well as the Talkeetna and Trapper Creek public libraries, during established business hours. Ballots types are limited in each location and are specific to the voting district.
