to buy or sell a security at an agreed price
- Trust – for the input of Managed Funds – e.g. Colonial First State Balanced Fund
- Bond – a form of debt and are issued for a period of more than one year. Governments, local
governments, water districts, companies and many other types of institutions sell bonds.
- Debenture – another form of debt, similar to a bond, which is normally issued by companies and
the lender is paid interest
- CFD – a Contract for Difference is simply an agreement to exchange the difference in value of a
particular share between the time at which a contract is opened and the time at which it is
closed
Note: If you purchase a Bond or Debenture you will be prompted to add a Payment Schedule to
calculate your interest component.
Stock Code
This is where you select the stock code/security code for a stock that you are purchasing. If the stock
code is not already entered into your database the program will prompt you to create the new security.
You will receive the below message if you purchase a stock who’s code has not been entered into the
database (either through a data download service or manually). To create a new security into the
database, click Yes (also see chapter 5 for creating a new security).
Broker
This is where you add the particular broker whom you purchased a stock through. Once set-up, this will
correctly calculate the affiliated brokerage rate for that particular trade. This is for administration
purposes only, and is up to you whether you want to set it up or not (please refer to the end of this
chapter).
Holding Number
This is where you are able to enter the information on your contract note in relation to the contract
note. This is for administration purposes and it is up to you if you wish to enter in the relevant details.
You are able to sort by holding numbers in the Current Transaction screen.
Page 20
Withdraw From
The trading account is the main account linked to your portfolio, and is where funds come from when
purchasing shares. This can be amended by selecting another account in the drop-down menu. If you do
not wish to have a trading account, delete the account from the “Cash Account” field and leave it blank.
See Below screen shot for more details:
Quantity
Enter in the total amount of shares that you have purchased.
Price
This is where you enter in the price per share that you have paid, which can be found on your contract
note. This is NOT the total price you have paid for the shares.
Brokerage (inc GST)
Here, you can enter in your total brokerage fee and the GST element on that brokerage fee in addition
(where applicable).
Other Fees
In Australia, prior to 30/06/01, stamp duty was a tax that was applied to the transfer in name of certain
assets such as shares. In Stockmarket Plus, you have the ability to backdate the purchase of shares and
include the stamp duty amount where relevant in the “Other Fees” box. You can also add any other fees
that may have been incurred in the transaction.
Stop Loss Exit Price
Here, you can set a limit price to which you would like to exit from out of the stock that you have
purchased in order to make sure that you only lose a pre-determined amount of money. This only works
in conjunction with a Data Download service (see chapter 6), or if you are updating the prices manually
each day. The program will tell you that your stock has reached the stop loss exit price with the
descriptions listed below in the table.
Target Price
The opposite of the Stop loss exit price, the target price will let you know when a stock has reached a
certain level in order to let you know that a specific profit has been reached, and once again works only
Page 21
when price data is being updated in Stockmarket Plus. The program will let you know that it has reached
the target price in the Current Transaction through notification section of the Report bar.
Notes
This page will also provide you with an area where you are able to document additional comments for
your own personal records.
Bonus Issues
To help you through the complexity of bonus issues, MAUS Stockmarket Plus has a Wizard to assist you
in determining the cost of bonus shares/units and whether they are subject to capital gains tax or can be
treated as a dividend.
The treatment of bonus shares or units is different from a dividend reinvestment plan in that the
shareholder does not have the option of taking a cash dividend instead of the bonus shares.
From a taxation viewpoint, the paid-up value of the bonus shares/units may be taxed as a dividend and
the bonus shares/units may be subject to capital gains tax depending on a number of factors. In
addition, the calculation of cost of the bonus shares/units may be different.
Once you have entered the details for the transaction, clicking the OK button will prompt you to run the
Bonus Share Wizard
Follow the Wizard’s instructions to work out the cost of bonus shares/units.
NOTE: For more details regarding the calculation of bonus shares/units, please contact your local
Taxation Office.
Short sell To allow you to record short sell transactions, an additional “Short Sell” button is included when you are
in the portfolio or current transaction folder. Selecting this option will open the short sell window. The

write an option, you first enter the option code into the security window to add this to the database
(please see adding a new security in chapter 5). Then you go back into the portfolio window and conduct
a short sell as explained below. This will automatically add the “premium” you receive for the option to
the account that the portfolio is attached.

Reporting
Reporting options can be accessed via the Report Tab within the Application bar. Users
who are familiar with older versions of Stockmarket Plus will likely want to use the first
prompt, “Tree view”, to access the older view of reporting options (See image on the
right).
Within both the Reporting dropdown from the “Apps Bar” and the Reporting folders in the
“Report” plane on the right will have the same options available. The majority of reports in
the system will provide you with configuration options you will have to select, such as the
following for the “Holdings Report”:
Page 25
After confirming your configuration preferences, you can press “OK” to generate the report. The system
will provide the report to you which can be viewed within the system in addition to a number of options,
including the ability to regenerate the report for a different portfolio/date range in addition to printing
and converting to a PDF. All of these options will appear across the top of the report:
Please note, some reports may also be able to be reordered based on Colum headings. Clicking on
Column headings such as Quantity or Date should reorder the data based on this preference.

Appendix – Troubleshooting & Solutions
Knowledge base The MAUS Stockmarket Plus Knowledge base can be accessed at http://www.maus.com.au/maus-
support/knowledge-base/ and is a great place to start when looking for assistance with the tool. It has a
number of articles reviewing commonly asked questions.
Unlock Code 30 days after you install the product, you will receive a message requesting you to unlock the product,
and will be provided with a 5 digit unique key. From this point you will have 3 days/access attempts to
access the tools before the system will not allow further access without inputting the unlock code, and
we would recommend reaching out to the MAUS team at your earliest convenience and provide your
unique key. Our team will be able to generate an unlock code based on this unique key without delay
and provide it to you.
Once the unlock code is input into the software your software will be registered to your device, and
unlocked. This will not likely occur again unless the product is reinstalled, updated, or a major
software/hardware change occurs in your PC.
Common Runtime Errors
Runtime 53 Error 1. Right click on the StockMarket Plus Shortcut.Click on Properties.
2. Click on the Compatibility Tab.
3. Tick the Run this program as administration Tab.
4. Click Apply, then OK.
Runtime 75: Path/File Access Error Runtime error 75: Path/file access error occurs when something within your system is preventing
Stockmarket Plus from Launching. We normally find that this is the antivirus software which is in place
on the machine in question, I would strongly recommend suspending the antivirus service/s you use on
the machine for a short time, and reattempting to open Stockmarket Plus. Should this resolve the issue,
you can then create exceptions for Stockmarket Plus within your antivirus service to ensure that this
error does not occur again in the future.
Should the suspension of your Antivirus service not resolve this issue, this indicates that there is another
process in place within the device in question which is preventing the software from launching, and will
require you to review the device further to discern what software could be preventing Stockmarket Plus
from launching correctly.
Page 28
Other Common Errors
SQLState = 08001 This error indicates that something is preventing Stockmarket Plus from reading the database file.
Depending on the nature of the text in this error, there are a few possible pathways to resolving the
matter:
If the error mentions a “Stock.log” file
If you receive an SQL Error referring to stock.log which is preventing you from using StockMarket Plus it
generally means that a process didn’t correctly stop the last time the software was run, or some older
files were leftover prior to an installation of a new version.
To fix this error, browse to the location of the database that you use to run the software, and locate and
delete the stock.log file.
Unless you run a multi-database setup or have manually changed the location of your stock.db file (or
the stockmarketplus folder) the file will be in the default location which is C:\Program Files
(x86)\StockMarketPlus (V14 or earlier) or C:\StockMarket Plus (V15)
If you use a multi-database setup, have an alternate location for your stock.db file (or stockmarketplus
folder), then the stock.log file will appear in the same location as your stock.db file that you load, e.g. if
your stock.db file loads from C:\users, then your stock.log file will also be in C:\usersr
If the error says “stock.db was created by a different version of the software”
This means that you are coming from an older version of the software and your database is not directly
compatible with the current version of Stockmarket Plus. You will need to email [email protected]
with your stock.db file attached so that the MAUS team can convert it to the current database structure.
If the error says “Database not found” or “Connot Connect to Database”
These errors usually indicate that it the database may have not saved properly, which can cause a
corruption in the data. In order to rectify this, I would suggest doing the following:
1. Follow the tips HERE to locate your database file, and send it to the MAUS Team for review, in the event the data is retrievable or the file is required should the later steps not resolve the situation
2. Once you have successfully send the database file to us, follow the tips HERE to perform some trouble shooting steps. Ideally, you will be able to utilize a recent backup of the database file, and will be able to move forward from there.
Should the issue not be resolved by the end of step 2, our team here can take a look at the database file
for you. Should a standard debugging not resolve the matter, we may need to facilitate a full database
repair, which can take a few business days and incur a cost of $165. Hopefully we can avoid this if
possible.
Printing cuts off part of the screen OR part of Reports have been cut off If a StockMarket Plus’ reports are coming out in a strange format, having blank pages, or cutting of part
of the report, it is likely that their printer is set to Letter and not A4. This has been fixed in version 15 of
the software, but can be manually resolved by the client by:
Page 29
1. Close StockMarket Plus.
2. Go to Devices and Printers.
3. Right clicking on the printer (the one they want to use).
4. Click on Printing Preferences.
5. From here the settings can vary by model of printer, but you want the client to change the page
size from letter to A4, then click apply then ok.
Additionally, be on the lookout for the date format of your computer being in the US format instead of
the AUS one, meaning that the days and months are reversed. This can cause issues with StockMarket
Plus, so a client needs to make sure their PC is using the AUS date time format (DD/MM/YYYY).
“Encountered an Improper Argument” Error
1. Navigate to where the program is installed using File Explorer. (Found in the start menu, file location should be “C:\stockmarketplus”)
Page 30
2. Scroll down to find the file “smarket.exe” and right click it – Then select “Properties”
Page 31
3. Click the “Compatibility” tab – Then tick the box at the bottom which says “Run this program as an administrator”.
Page 32
4. Check to ensure that the tickbox “Run this Program in Compatibility mode for:” is unticked before proceeding.
5. Once this is done, you should be able to run the program – You may notice this window popping up – Click “OK” and the program will run afterwards.
Page 33
If the Error message notes that a “MSVCP100.dll file” missing from the PC We would recommend speaking with Microsoft, or any other trusted PC
assistance/troubleshooting/technician company who can assist with troubleshooting the error as this
error is not linked with Stockmarket Plus but actually a windows related issue. For some context, this is a
file which should be present in windows but doesn’t appear to be present on your device. From what we
understand you are able to download the missing file and input it into your PC, however our team here
are not trained to resolve issues outside of the MAUS range and as such we would highly recommend
getting a trained professional to review this and insure that it is not indicative of a larger issue present in
your PC.
After some further checking, we have had one other client in the past who experienced this (who was
utilizing a different product), and they were able to resolve it by reaching out to Microsoft directly who
were able provide the client with a quick fix for this error. As you will see from THIS google search, it is
not something that is specific to Stockmarket Plus as it is required by other programs, and has been an
on and off issue for windows for the past 5+ years.
There are some resources HERE, HERE and HERE from various sources which discuss this error
