This course is designed to provide a 6 day comprehensive review of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Reconstructive Surgery for residents, academic faculty and all practitioners of oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as other dental and medical specialists. A comprehensive case based presentation in the management of medical conditions and medical emergencies in the office and operating room is included within this course.

This course will emphasize specific treatments and surgeries for pathological conditions and syndromes in case by case format. It will include the development of appropriate differential diagnosis and review the histopathology. This course will also review pre-operative and post-operative medical management as well as post-operative medical complications and office medical emergencies. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to: • Recognize and diagnose pathologic conditions. • Develop specific treatment plans inclusive of reconstruction where indicated. • Assess patient’s medical conditions and risks for surgery. • Better Manage medical emergencies in the office and operating room.This Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Medicine Review course is offered as an educational review and does not imply approval or association with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or any dental or medical specialty board. However, practitioners and residents preparing for their written and/or board examination have found this course to be extremely useful and many practitioners have realized improved diagnostic skills and treatment methods.This course will include a comprehensive sample written examination for attendees as a practice and evaluation exercise. Written examination answers will be provided after submission of this examination.Separate Mock Boards in Pathology and in Medicine are additionally offered together with an assessment, critique, and suggestions for a strong performance in these subjects. SPACE IS LIMITED, SEPARATE REGISTRATION FEE REQUIRED. There will be 3 morning session and 3 afternoon session. Participants will be able to register for either or both the pathology and medicine sessions. Description: Each participant will be examined in a one hour examination using projected images depicting cases similar to those presented during the oral and maxillofacial pathology/medicine portion of the examination. The time, format, and conduct of the examination will be strictly adhered to and mimic that of the Board Examination. Each participant will also be an observer during a fellow participant’s examination. After participating in one examination and observing another, each participant will receive a constructive assessment and suggestions for improvement.

Separate Mock Boards in Pathology and In Medicine are offered together with an assessment, critique, and suggestions for a strong performance in these subjects. Course DescriptionThree cases will be reviewed in the case presentation format of Case Based learning. Fifteen minutes per case.

Course ObjectivesUpon completion of the each webinar participants will be able to:

1. Gain a level of knowledge related to the appropriate workup, differential diagnosis and direct treatment of pathologic conditions from real case presentations. 2. Understand the various choices in bony and soft tissue reconstruction available today.3. Stimulate members of the oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty and other specialties of dentistry to become more involved in the diagnosis and direct treatment of people with real disease entities. 4. Accurately case plan and deliver specific treatment options which will improve patient outcomes.

This unique webcast series in designed for participants to re-live the rich learning experiences of residency without its demands and pressures. This series of seven webcasts will present actually recent cases admitted to the World renowned University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital busy oral and maxillofacial residency/fellowship program. All the nuances, co-morbidities, and consulting services recommendations will be addressed within the realism of each case. It is planned to be an exciting monthly program of real cases spanning the full scope of today’s oral and maxillofacial surgery including complex dental implant

cases, maxillofacial trauma, TMJ cases, orthognathic surgery planning and surgical techniques, infections, obstructive sleep apnea, emergency cases, and more.

Each 1 and 1/2 hour webcast will present 5 to 7 cases and be open to questions sent into the moderator. One hour of CME credits for each pre-registered participant will be offered. For attendees requesting CME credits a short pretest, posttest, and a brief course evaluation must be completed.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

GOALS1. To present a rich real life learning experience to participants2. To introduce todays methods and sequence of diagnosis and

treatment planning3. To illustrate how cases are evaluated and the details

of specific surgical treatments decided using real contemporaneous cases.

OBJECTIVES:1. To get become updated on how to treatment plan and treat

complex cases2. To know how and what services to consult for specific

conditions and diseases3. Improve their knowledge related to the physiology of a

broad scope of medical conditions4. Be able to recognize and treat specific complications
