STEPHEN MINISTRY

"I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me". John 14: 6 In today's gospel, Jesus instructs us to be his instruments in helping others to follow his way. He has given all of us the opportunity to have concern and awareness for people in our lives who might be struggling with seeing "the way" of Christ. Stephen Ministers are servants of Jesus, trained to provide personal and confidential support for people who are facing life's difficulties. An outreach to a Stephen Minister could be helpful in finding "the way" either for you or someone you know. For information and referral help, contact Deacon Alan Christy (515-231-8099) or Anne Schmitt (515-291-8257).

A mother’s love is eternal. When making a planned gift to our endowment in your mother’s

name, you create a perpetual remembrance of her love. Honor MOM on this Mother’s Day and pass on the faith that was so important to her by making a gift in her name to our endowment fund. Please contact Frank Oppold 290-1163.

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT

In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles we see how the first community of Christians gathered together to discern and resolve how to care for each others’ needs. As good stewards of the sisters and brothers who gathered around the Eucharistic table, the community of faith selected those among them who were to ensure that no one was neglected. How do we resolve to serve the needs of our parish family? How do we ensure that those who might be perceived to be the least of our brothers and sisters are not left alone and neglected?

Stewardship: “Those who have faith in Me will do the works I do, and far greater than these,” Jesus tells His disciples. That’s quite an assignment for us as Christian stewards!

Did you know that Catholic Charities: Jail & Prison Ministry program participants are 49% less likely to reoffend when compared to the state’s average rate? This work saves taxpayer money, decreases the strain on our law enforcement and most im-portantly improves the quality of life for those in the program and their families. Support this important work, and much more with your gift to the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal. Learn more at www.CatholicCharitiesDubuque.org.

Hold My Mother Close Heavenly Father, hold my mother close to your Heart as we hold her close to mine. Let her know today and every day how much we love her. Lord, comfort her mind and reassure her that her motherly care was everything we needed and wanted and that we love her dearly.

Lord, comfort her body as she ages and grant her health and vitality as she goes through her days here on earth. Bring all good things to my precious mother, dear God, and bless her every day, in every way. Amen!

The decision to send our precious angel to St. Cecilia School was certainly without question. My husband and I were both raised Catholic to parents who were intimately involved in the Catholic Church. In fact, my husband’s dad currently serves as a permanent deacon and my mom is a lay minister of the church. Growing up, my husband and I both experienced immacu-late benefits of attending catholic school, therefore when selecting a school of choice for our daughter, St. Cecilia was always first. St. Cecilia provides an exceptional academic curriculum which focuses on core courses such as math, science, social studies, language arts, and technology, coupled with a foundational empha-sis on religion. This religious emphasis disseminates very admirable qualities embedded within our daughter’s character. Qualities such as kindness, love, empathy and care for peers, respect, leadership, cultural awareness, tranquility, and obedience are just some of the many traits that define her character. We are very thankful to St. Cecilia for helping set this foundation. Ayinde & Emalie Popo

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE CELEBRATION The Sacrament of Marriage can be celebrated at a time convenient to the couple and in accordance with the parish schedule. The date and time of the celebration must be scheduled only with a priest or deacon of the parish. the couple must contact a priest or deacon of the parish preferably one year prior to the desired wedding date, but no less than six months prior to their desired date. Also, please see Wedding Music Guidelines and Wedding Music Out-line for guidance and assistance in choosing your wedding music.

The Parish Directory photography days are coming to a close soon. Our next step is to continue maintaining and updating member contact information. Please contact the parish office if you can share a few hours of your time with this project. Thanks!
