Whispers of the Heart Workshop & Art Show

Workshop: Sat, June 8: Please join us for a half day workshop on Sat, June 8, 9am-1:30pm., as we explore the ancient Christian practice of lectio and visio divina. Lectio divina, Latin for “holy or divine reading” involves the listening to and relating of scripture to this moment in our experience. Visio divina, Latin for “sacred seeing or praying with art,” involves building awareness of God as experienced through various art forms such as sculpture and painting. Both practices build our awareness of how God speaks to us. Refreshments will be served including a light lunch. Signup sheets are available in the Gathering room. Registration deadline

is June 2. Pastor Maggie Sykes and Evelyn West will facilitate this retreat. Photography & Art Show: Sun, June 9: Get your cameras ready and your eyes wide open as you prepare to share through photography or original art “Where do you see God?” Please join FUMC in this unique opportunity to share your vision of God in the world through photography (8 X 10 matted or framed) or original art work (no larger than 18 X 20 matted or framed) with an art show at FUMC on June 9 & 16 inclusive. A reception will be held on June 9 between services and after worship. Entry deadline is May 31st.

Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 10-14, 6-8:15pm each evening. Kids will learn to depend on the promises of Jesus – promises each of us can cling to! Volunteers are needed so please contact Penny Hoekstra at 335-2826 or by email at [email protected] or Eden Maxwell at 545-8821 or by email at [email protected] if you are interested!

First Kids Preschool Fundraiser-Thank You!

The First Kids Preschool Jumpy's fundraiser was a great success. With your help, First Kids was able to raise over $1,000 from the combination of door admissions, bake sale and silent auction. Funds raised will go towards new handwriting curriculum and lockable storage for the playground equipment. First Kids Preschool would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all who attended the event, baked items for the bake sale, donated to the silent auction and bid on the silent auction items. The generosity of the FUMC congregation is part of what makes First Kids Christian Cooperative Preschool so successful.

Church Council Retreat This spring our Church Council held a retreat at

which the Pastor’s Vision Team presented their findings and the Church Council set goals for

Troy First to address specific needs. A new

Vision and Mission statement was adopted as well.

Vision Statement: The Vision of Troy First United Methodist Church is to make disciples and spread the Good News by living, obeying and applying the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement: The Mission of Troy First United Methodist Church is to INVITE - EQUIP - ENGAGE. GOALS: Goal #1: Implement a Small Group Program with training by Pastor Dave and the staff, to include a high-level plan to be presented at the next Church Council meeting on May 20, 2013. Goal #2: Form a seven-person Facilities Task Force, consisting of three Trustees and four congregational members to address facilities expansion. This Task Force will provide a preliminary report to Church Council on September 16, 2013. The scope of the study/report will include all facilities currently owned and other potential future acquisitions.

Goal #3: Form a committee to assess the current and future physical space needs for all church ministries and present these needs to the Facilities Task Force.
