The Crest News for friends of Miller Funeral Home and the Care Group and Crematory Once a month I get to be a part of a movement that inspires and fascinates me – Honor Flight. As you may already know, Miller Funeral Home organizes a free hamburger and brat feed at the VFW every third Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Tim Bachman finds some folks willing to donate the food and the rest of us cook for anyone who comes. All the proceeds go to Honor Flight. We don’t set any amount for giving so the donations vary from dollar bills to 20s and 50s (last time we even got a check for $1,000!). More important than that is the honor and respect given to veterans by those who attend. “Thank you for your service” I hear over and over to those whose served in WWII or Korea or Viet Nam. Now that I have a son who served in Iraq, I have yet another perspective ... oh, the days I spent worrying and praying for Cole while he was on active duty with his Marine unit. How proud I am of him, and how aware I have become of his sacrifice: the sleepless nights he still has and the measured anguish his still carries as he adapts to civilian life. So the American flag means more to me now; I see a kid in uniform and I want to shake his hand and ask him how he’s doing. When I hear news of a military funeral my mouth still goes dry and I think of another Dad who could have easily been me. This Memorial Day weekend, I’ll lay a wreath at my dad’s grave. I’ll join thousands of you, remembering those who we loved and honoring those who have served. And I will be more appreciative of the gift, because I understand more about what it cost. Have a great Memorial Day and a safe summer! Blessings, Tim Wingen A Time to Remember May 2010

and Crematory

Once a month I get to be a part of a movement that

inspires and fascinates me – Honor Flight.

As you may already know, Miller Funeral Home

organizes a free hamburger and

brat feed at the VFW every third

Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Tim

Bachman finds some folks willing

to donate the food and the rest of

us cook for anyone who comes.

All the proceeds go to Honor

Flight.

We don’t set any amount for

giving so the donations vary from

dollar bills to 20s and 50s (last

time we even got a check for

$1,000!). More important than

that is the honor and respect given

to veterans by those who attend.

“Thank you for your service” I

hear over and over to those whose served in WWII or

Korea or Viet Nam.

Now that I have a son who served in Iraq, I have yet

another perspective ... oh, the days I spent worrying and

praying for Cole while he was on active duty with his

Marine unit. How proud I am of him, and how aware I

have become of his sacrifice: the sleepless nights he

still has and the measured anguish his still carries as he

adapts to civilian life.

So the American flag means more to

me now; I see a kid in uniform and I

want to shake his hand and ask him

how he’s doing. When I hear news of

a military funeral my mouth still

goes dry and I think of another Dad

who could have easily been me.

This Memorial Day weekend, I’ll lay

a wreath at my dad’s grave. I’ll join

thousands of you, remembering

those who we loved and honoring

those who have served. And I will

be more appreciative of the gift,

because I understand more about

what it cost.

Have a great Memorial Day and a safe

summer!

Blessings,

Tim Wingen

As a Funeral Counselor, I meet with people about

funeral planning. The five most common reasons are:

1. They want to have plans in place so their

children won’t have to guess.

2. They want peace of mind knowing “It’s all

taken care of.”

3. Helping families with Title 19 eligibility.

4. They have questions about cremation.

5. They have questions about veteran issues

and benefits.

People I’ve met with recently say:

“Well handled, compassionate help.” –Marcia Eberle

“Everyone needs to do this. It really helps thefamily in their time of the loss of a loved one.”

–Vivian Hofer“Answers to all my questions withtime to talk with family andcomplete the process. [Before] Ifelt uninformed, but now Iunderstand the processmore clearly. This was alldone with respect to thefew ideas I had. Thankyou.” –Barbara Goodyear

“…to get an idea of costs, all choices you have. Connie was so helpful, not atall pushy” –Joyce M. Hoefert

Can I help you as well? A Personal Record Guide is

The new business owner called the florist shop – and he was

irate!

“I ordered flowers for my grand opening and you send me a

bouquet that says Rest in Peace?”

The florist tried everything in his power to calm the man down.

Finally he said, “It could be worse – somewhere there’s a

beautiful bouquet of flowers at a funeral that says

Congratulations on Your New Location!”

Rest in Peace
