DMACK Does de Business It’s been a superb start to the year for DMACK tyres in the UK, distributed exclusively by Vital Equipment. Aſter a promising start, it wasnt going to be long before the WRC-approved brand of tyres began to claim event wins and the maiden victory went to Charlie Payne, who won the Riponian Rally in February using DMACK Tyres. The weekend before though, it was Ma Edwards who demon - strated the potenal of the brand. He finished a sheet ice-covered Wyedean Rally, the opening round of the BTRDA series, in eighth place and as the first driver home not using specialised snow and ice tyres during the event. It wasn’t long before Edwards went further though, as he claimed the win on the Bulldog Naonal Rally in his class B13 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. He then backed up this with 2nd overall on the Somerset Stages, beaten only by the Ford Focus WRC of Hugh Hunter. DMACK Tyres are also making their presence felt in the FIA World Rally Championship, where they are one of only two brands permied for use by competors. In the recent Rally Argenna, one of the longest distance WRC events for years, Marn Prokop finished a superb fourth overall, running DMACK Tyres on his Ford Fiesta RS WRC. Prokop on his way to fourth overall. Edwards is a BTRDA frontrunner on DMACK. Head Northwest, young man! Next week sees this year’s edion of the fabled Northwest 200, Ireland’s most famous motorcycle road race. And, as in previous years, Vital Equipment will be on hand to supply Carless Racing Fuels to the competors in partnership with Northern Ireland distributor Morrow Fuels (see separate profile). Taking place a stone’s throw from the famous Giant’s Causeway, the week-long event aracts an enormous number of spectators, as well some of the biggest names in road racing , including Guy Marn, Michael Ruer and the Dunlop brothers, Michael and William. Vital Equipment will be on hand to supply fuel for the event, including Carless Hiperflo Moto 4T Racing, developed specifically for four-stroke motorcycle engines. Hiperflo 300 - A fuel for all seasons (and engines)

Hiperflo 300 was introduced as the control fuel to the BTCC in 2011

2011 was a transitional year for the British Touring Car Championship. Following regulation changes, both turbo-charged (NGTC) and normally-aspirated engines were permitted to run in the series.

You might think that developing a single fuel for the entire BTCC field to suit both NGTC and normally-aspirated engines would be an impossible task. But Carless Racing Fuels has proved that it is possible to have your cake and eat it.

In addition to satisfying the largely unique requirements for both distinct types of engine, the chemists were also given the brief to make the fuel bio-based. However they chose not to use the familiar ethanol as the natural component, since this is susceptible to attack by water.

The component they used results in a far more rugged fuel, able to remain stable in more wide-reaching conditions.

Using experience derived from blending specialist fuels for decades, the new fuel began life as a computer model, combining constituents designed to provide, for example, knock resistance for the turbocharged engines as well as specific demands of a normally-aspirated motor.

Once the computer model was produced, the development moved to real-life testing on the engine dyno. Initial tests were carried out with slight amendments made to the blend to fine-tune it ready for the start of the 2011 season.

The results are clear to see; the new Hiperflo 300 delivers the consistency and performance expected of the brand but with a bio component to reduce environmental impact.

Commenting, Petrochem Carless’ Performance Fuels Man-ager Graham Eden said; “As a company, we are very pleased with the way Hiperflo 300 has been received.

‘’There have been no problems with the fuel and I think this demonstrates the value of doing the development work at the beginning of the project, to ensure the end user, i.e the BTCC field, is provided with a fuel which we know works. “I also think it fair to say that Hiperflo 300 is a significant step forward from the previous variant and I am also very pleased to say that we are able to introduce elements to the fuel to make it more environmentally friendly.”

In 2012, Hiperflo 300 is the fuel of choice for the BTCC , although all the teams have made the move to the turbo-charged NGTC engine. Hiperflo 300 is also supplied to the support race series on the BTCC package, Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Junior Champion-ship and the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain.

Ginetta Juniors are a massive hit with BTCC crowds.

Last year’s inaugral Run To The Sun competition was a huge sucess for not only Vital Equipment but also the winning junior driver from both the BTRDA Rally Series and the Scottish Rally Championship. Tom Cave, with co-driver Craig Parry and Liam Harkness, partnered by William Keaning all ew out to Salou to join the WRC’s Spanish Fiesta and in the process, took in some of the most spectacluar and atmospheric action around.

Vital Equipment is running another competition for 2012 but on a slightly dierent basis and with a very dierent prize. The winning junior drivers from the BTRDA and SRC will y out to Sweden, where they will spend 2 days being tutored on the Ice-Drive Sweden frozen lake, by Matt Edwards of MERallydrive.

They will drive one of the MERally- drive Ford Fiesta ST, tted with DMACK tyres and VE covering the travel and accommodation.

The competition has clearly hit the spot, with almost all the drivers featuring in the BTRDA Junior Driver award points table qualifying for Champions On Ice. After three rounds, it’s Sion Matthews who tops the tables, thanks to a consistent run on all three BTRDA events, claiming second in class on each. Second overall is RallySchool driver Harry Threlfall while in third place at this early stage is Cameron Davies, despite a non-nish on the rst round, the Wyedean Rally.

Distributor Focus

Phillip, and indeed the Morrow family name, are extremely familiar when it comes to fuel in Northern Ireland. The family business has been distributing heating oils and fuels in the region for years, so it was a natural t for Phillip to become the NI distributor for Carless’ range of products.

Through Morrow Fuels, Philip has the full range of Carless Racing Fuels, for purchase for all forms of motorsport and rallying in particular.

Philip himself is also no stranger to motorsport; he won the 2007 Mitsubishi Evo Challenge, the one-make series and with it, became a works driver for Mitsubishi in the British Rally Championship in 2008.

Morrow Fuels represented Carless Racing Fuels on the recent Circuit of Ireland Rally, the third round of the 2012 Intercon-tinental Rally Challenge. Morrow Fuels were at each re-fuel zone supplying and dispensing Carless Hipero Turbo Ultimate and Super

Unleaded directly into competitor’s cars. Morrow Fuels/Carless user Darren Gass claimed victory on the Circuit of Ireland National Rally in his Subaru Impreza WRC. (pictured below).

Of f the back of this success Morrow Fuels was invited to help at the Maze Festival of Speed, Northern Ireland’s biggest motorsport event.During the event they had the Morrow Fuels 4X4 super tanker (pictured below) on display on the o-road course

Next up for Morrow Fuels is the Northwest 200, which we previewed in this edition. They will be supplying teams and riders with Hipero Moto 4T Racing and Hipero 250.

Flood or Snow this tanker will go!
