FROM THE PASTOR

Happy Mother’s Day My Dear Brothers and Sisters, the month of May is dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God. It is most appropriate that during thismonth for us to honor and to celebrate our mothers with Mother’s Day. Today is a day to celebrate Motherhood. It is a day to honorour mothers and grandmothers and our soon to be mothers. I hope that each of our mom’s will be given something special fromtheir families on this special day. And for those of us whose mothers and grandmothers are no longer with us let us remember themin our prayers and maybe a visit to their graves. Let us pray then for all our mothers, grandmothers and for those who will become mothers this year. May God bless each one ofthem for the gift of life that they have given to our sons and daughters. May our Blessed Mother Mary, watch over and protect themand intercede for all their needs.

As our Easter celebrations continue we see both the spread of the Church and the first of the persecutions of the Church. With themartyrdom of St. Stephen, we see how the first disciples were filled with the zeal of the Holy Spirit and the compassion that comesfrom Jesus as St. Stephen echoes the words of Jesus on the cross: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them”. For the first time inthe scriptures we meet Saul who after witnessing the death of Stephen would later have a conversion and become the great apostleto the gentiles. In the Gospel we hear Jesus praying not only for those first disciples but us as he says: “Holy Father, I pray not only for them, butalso for those who will believe in me through their word.” It is this prayer of Jesus that should give us the courage and strengthto proclaim him to the society we live in without fear or hesitation. Let us be strong in our trust of Jesus’ promise to never leaveus alone. Let us truly learn to be one with him as he is one with the Father.

Accountant Needed

We are in need of an accountant to take over the Financial Reports to the Archdiocese of Newark. This includes quarterly reports, and year end reports and the annual budget. We have a volunteer who is handling the monthly data entry and would work with youon reports. If you are an accounting major in college and would like to get some experience for your resume or to fulfill volunteer hours, wewould be happy to have you. If you can volunteer, please call Fr. Cinque.

Parish Clean-Up Thank You I want to thank all those who volunteered last Saturday to come for our Spring Parish Clean-up. Thank you for the time and all thatyou did. I hope that everyone appreciates how much work a handful of volunteers accomplished last Saturday morning. Volunteersworked in the Church cleaning and polishing everything, one of the volunteers suggested we should make it a no shoes zone. Adumpster load of junk was cleaned out in the school and the youth room. The youth room was cleaned from top to bottom. A lotof work was done on the grounds including taking down several large branches that were hanging dangerously close to the school. I hope that come the fall we will have a large turnout of volunteers for the Fall clean-up. May God bless you, Fr. Stephen Cinque
