With that said, the idea is to be proactive in cleaning up the greenbelt and removing dead and threatening brush that can easily ignite. A community clean up of the greenbelts is planned to be scheduled early next year. We will need volunteers when the time is set and ask all of you to please help with the clean up. LANDSCAPE LADY SAYS: Over the course of the winter (November, December) plan for renovating turf and changing as much of it as you can into more heat-tolerant plantings. In January and February, do any and all possible renovations to your irrigation so that you have the most efficient and water-conserving water source possible. Begin in March to install as many xeriscape plantings/beds as possible. Plan to utilize drought-tolerant plantings in lieu of annual color. For example, use a bed full of Hymenoxys instead of petunias. Begin fall fertilization of lawns with organic slow release products. MULCH, MULCH, MULCH beds. Continue sowing wildflower seeds. Plant fall vegetable plants. Continue to dig and divide bulbs/ rhizomes/tubers (e.g. iris and daylilies). Plant trees (best time of year for planting!). Hand water at the root zone of plants as needed when there is no rain. Plant of the Month The native Bird of Paradise is a prolific blooming perennial which can tolerate a one-time per week watering. Drought-tolerant, heat- tolerant, & absolutely gorgeous! Plan to add these to your landscape early next spring. - By Debby Cole m November 2011 Volume 2, Issue 11 MAYFIELD RANCH MAYFIELD RANCH HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION

MAYFIELD RANCH

NEW HOA PRESIDENTHello fellow Mayfield Ranch neighbors, this is Wendy Csaki.

I am taking over the reins from Jennifer Poulson as the new President of the Mayfield Ranch HOA. For those of you that don’t know me, I have lived in Mayfield Ranch for 8 years and have a wonderful husband and son. Over the last 2 years, I have served as Secretary and Vice President for the HOA and have been involved in the MR community for the last seven years. The Board and I are looking to make this upcoming year as successful as the ones in the past. The current drought, which has been the culprit for numerous fires outside the MR community, has the Round Rock Fire Department looking at the cleanup of the greenbelts for fire prevention. This includes the MR HOA owned greenbelts, as well as the Williamson County and City of Round Rock land. The Board will be meeting with the RR Fire Dept. (if not done already by the time you read this) to determine what will need to be done to comply with regulations for the safety of our community. The Board knows already that some work will need to be done, to what extent is still undetermined. With that said, the idea is to be proactive in cleaning up the greenbelt and removing dead and threatening brush that can easily ignite. A community clean up of the greenbelts is planned to be scheduled early next year. We will need volunteers when the time is set and ask all of you to please help with the clean up. As we have seen with the fires in Bastrop and Steiner Ranch, whole sections of the neighborhood go up in flames, not just the homes closest to the greenbelts. Think of this as an investment in your future.

Our community pool will be getting a facelift over the winter. The coping on the edge of the pool was not initially sealed correctly and is breaking apart. Other improvements may include adding trees on the west side of the splash pool area and adding flat rock to extend the patio area. The trees will offer a more economical and natural shade area than a man-made structure, and the flat rock will fill in where the grass does not grow and mud prevails. These improvements are planned to be complete before the spring season starts. I want to keep the community updated as much as possible on the activities and issues that affect us all. To do this, I am asking that all homeowners take part in community. It may be just attending the quarterly HOA meetings, or volunteering for a committee or activity, but help with something that benefits us all. What hurts the Board and the faithful volunteers the worst is hearing from others that activities are being handled wrong, or nothing is being done about an issue; yet we struggle to get a forum at our meetings to decide issues and plan activities for the community. This year please help, you can make a difference.

We are looking forward to this upcoming year with exciting activities and yet challenging issues. I enjoy living in this neighborhood and want this community to

be one of the nicest and proudest in this area. I hope you will help make this happen - Thanks, Wendy

Begin fall fertilization of lawns with organic slow release products.

• MULCH, MULCH, MULCH beds. • Continue sowing wildflower seeds.• Plant fall vegetable plants.• Continue to dig and divide bulbs/

rhizomes/tubers (e.g. iris and daylilies).• Plant trees (best time of year for planting!).• Hand water at the root zone of plants as
