Eleven new Sponsors have joined in the last month, bringing our total this year to an impressive fourteen Corporate Sponsors. Also, a note on the results ofthe SAME Washington DC Post andNorthern Virginia Post Joint 2011SAME National Conference proposalsubmission, that was planned to be heldat the Gaylord Resort and Spa at thenewly built National Harbor. Despite anincredible effort by our Joint Post

Conference Committee, an excellent conference proposal and interview,we were not selected to host the national conference in 2011. There aremany people to thank and extend our appreciation to for this colossaleffort. One individual who deserves a special thanks is Donna Vereb ofURS, for her outstanding proposal leadership. We greatly appreciateURS Corporation for donating their staff and funding to produce thisproposal. A personal thanks to Jim Donahue, Tom Delaney and theNorthern Virginia Post for their intensive involvement and theexperienced guidance they provided in support of the 2011 proposalteam.

Looking ahead, the Washington DC Post and the NorthernVirginia Post will consider whether or not we will submit a SAMEnational conference proposal in 2007 for the 2012 nationalconference. We'll keep you posted!

In closing, I am very proud to be part of so much support,enthusiasm and commitment to excellence by our members, ourcommunity, and our friends in support of the mission of this nobleorganization.

We have an exciting lineup of programs and speakers thissummer, and the fall will bring our Scholars & Honors Gala DinnerDance at the Mayflower on 30 September, and our Annual FederalOpportunities Conference in October.

Stanley Consultants Establishes Baton Rouge OfficeStanley Consultants is pleased to announce the opening of a new

office in Louisiana. The Baton Rouge office offers engineering,environmental and construction management services to federal, state and

municipal clients in the transportation, water resources and water/wastewater markets. services for the new construction of the 282,925 SF facility. The RTI will be a modern educational facility,which will provide classrooms, housing, and dining facilities for up to 408 authorized students and 96 authorized personnel.

Construction Management, U.S. Marine Corps HeritageFoundation

U.S. Marine Corps Museum, Quantico, VAJacobs is providing project/construction management services

during design and construction of this significant project for the MarineCorps Heritage Foundation. The project is currently 85% complete.Located in a woodland area off Interstate 95, just south of WashingtonDC, the museum is a dramatic, 230,000-SF facility that will includemultimedia exhibit galleries; a large-screen, state-of-the-art theater, andclassroom, restaurant, gift ship, and office spaces. An asymmetrical,cone-shaped, monumental skylight starting 45 feet above the finishedfloor and extending to a point 150 feet above the 18,000-square-footcentral gallery is a focal point. The museum not only provides the Corpswith the opportunity to consolidate its 60,000-plus artifacts,documents, and other memorabilia, it will help the public understandthe role of the Marines throughout history and in the world today.

Through interactive, immersive exhibits, visitors will experience some of the most important and dramatic chapters of Marine Corps history.Green architecture is a forefront element of this project, including earth berms reducing thermal load variations; a green roof system over

exhibit galleries; a water-use-reducing irrigation system and plumbing fixtures; a water side economizer during cold weather that uses a coolingtower without chillers; a rotary enthalpy heat exchanger to precondition outside air by transferring energy from the exhaust air stream to theentering air stream; and daylit atrium, offices, and cafeteria.

A-E Services, Federal Aviation AgencyJacobs has provided ongoing services to FAA for 15 years, including renovations, expansions, and new facilities for some of the nation's

most critical infrastructure. They perform A/E Design and Design/Build services for terminal radar approach control facilities (TRACONs), airroute traffic control center (ARTCCs), air traffic control towers (ATCTs), and other FAA-owned facilities. Projects often involve facilities thatmust remain operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport - Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) & Terminal Radar Control (TRACON).Jacobs is providing design-build services for the new 320-ft. tower that will provide air traffic controllers with unobstructed views of the

entire airfield, and permit visual and electronic monitoring of takeoffs, landings, and ground movement of aircraft. The design of the 850 SF caballows for three feet of space between the rear of the controller consoles and the tower's exterior walls, which will allow maintenance and repairaccess to equipment without disturbance to air traffic operations. The new 50,000 SF TRACON will enhance controllers’ ability to monitor andcontrol aircraft as they approach or depart the airport area. The TRACON features FAA’s new Standard Terminal Automation ReplacementSystem.

Air Traffic Control Tower – Dulles International AirportJacobs provided A/E design services for a new 300 ft. air traffic control tower (ATCT) and 16,000 SF base building at Washington DullesInternational Airport. The facility has been designed to meet the needs for future runways and extensions, security and sound controlrequirements and for connection to the future midfield terminal.

The tower is a design unique to the airport. It comprises a concrete shaft with precast at the junction levels. The junction levels contain breakrooms, offices, and mechanical/electrical rooms. The tower meets design criteria for having two exit stairs that extend from ground exits to thefloor below the tower cab.

Eisenhower Executive Office Building Phase I and II ModernizationsGrunley Construction is currently modernizing several wings within the EEOB building using the de-sign/build approach. The EEOB building is a National Historic Landmark that provides office space forapproximately 1,500 Federal workers, including the Office of the Vice President. The building remainsoccupied throughout the construction process. Work includes:• Install new mechanical, electrical and fire/life safety systems.• Renovate of North and South Courtyards.• Restore select historic elements.• Abate hazardous materials.

U.S. Department of the Interior Headquarters Building ModernizationThe firm is modernizing the third wing within the historic DOI Headquarters Buildingin Washington, DC. The Option 2 Modification contract involves 200,000 SF of build-ing space within Wing 4. The scope includes:

• Perform hazardous material abatement to include the central plant,mechanical level, and typical office space.

• Modernize mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems serv-ing seven floors, as well as main corridors, the basement and garage areas.

• Install new interior and exterior egress stairs on the east and west sides ofthe building.

Design & Construction – Joint Aviation Helicopter Maintenance Facility at Kabul InternationalAirport, Kabul, Afghanistan

As the prime contractor to USACE Afghanistan Engineering District, Shaw E & I is responsible fordesign, procurement, construction, and all aspects of quality, safety, security, and life support/logisticsfor the Joint Aviation Helicopter Maintenance Facility at Kabul International Airport. Setting upsecurity procedures, coordinating the delivery of supplies, and hiring local subcontractors all whileworking in a hostile environment are just a few of the challenges posed during this project. Shaw E & Ihas established relationships with several companies to provide logistics control, and has hired andtrained more than 50 Afghan nationals to support the construction effort. The 23,200 sq. ft. facilitywhich includes several buildings, two helicopter maintenance hangars, and two warehouses is sched-uled to be completed by late 2006.

Emergency Management & Response – Temporary Modular Buildings, New Orleans, LA

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, many buildings were damaged by wind and flood waters and were rendered unusable. Shaw E & Iquickly responded to the needs of multiple organizations by delivering and installing 64 temporary modular units in over 10 different locations.These fully functional and specifically tailored units allowed for the various organizations to resume their business while awaiting repairs onhurricane damaged buildings.

Partnered with Mississippi Space Services (MSS), Shaw E & I provides site-wide facility maintenance and opera-tions services to NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center (Stennis). Our individual responsibility at Stennis is for HV

electrical distribution and providing emergency back-up power, engineering,and maintenance for the rocket engine test facilities to include machine andwelding shops. Shaw E & I also offers services in plant operations; facilitiesmaintenance and repair; maintenance, communications, vehicle and generalsupport equipment repair.

Logistics & Contingency Operations – Fort Benning Base OperationsSupport, Georgia

Shaw E & I provides all logistics support and public works services at FortBenning. At this large DoD installation, we are dedicated to ensuring that thetraining, deployment, and return of our nation’s military servicemen andequipment is successfully accomplished. Shaw E & I’s support services includeproperly equipping each soldier for deployment, shuttling deploying soldiers,refueling military aircrafts, assisting in the deployment of numerous Army Reserveand National Guard organizations, repairing equipment such as heavy equipment

transporters and armored vehicles as they return from Iraq, shipping equipment to armories, andpreparing ammunition for both overseas shipment and Fort Benning training exercises.

Remediation & Environmental Services – Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program(FUSRAP), Nationwide

Shaw E & I has been a dedicated partner in assisting USACE in identifying technical solutionsand generating innovative approaches that increase program efficiency and successful cleanup ofsites contaminated with radioactive waste as a result of the nation’s early atomic weapons develop-ment program.
