• GAO review in early 1950’s uncovered numerous materiel weaknesses at Aberdeen Proving Ground– At the time there were 16 violations of law (Anti-Deficiency Act) within DoD; 13 of the 16 were
in the Department of Army and 11 of the 16 were at APG!– Commanding general and the comptroller both retired
• New APG commanding general brought with him his own comptroller• New comptroller decided to establish a chapter of the American Society of Military
Comptrollers in order to enhance the professionalism of the staff– ASMC was established in San Antonio, Texas in 1948
• The Chesapeake Chapter was chartered in November 1958 – Included personnel from APG, Edgewood Arsenal and Bainbridge Naval Training Center– First chapter president was Walter Gibson, APG comptroller– One of the oldest chapters still active

for patients (about $3,000 worthof underwear, sweats, sandals, T-shirts, sneakers, and loose-fittingclothing)
• Local businesses willingly donatedmoney, shipping boxes, ordiscounted the purchases

Community Service Projects
• “Sponsor a Soldier for Christmas”• Sent more than fifty boxes
containing 500 Christmas giftsto three camps in Iraq: CampTaji; Camp Ramadi; and CampTikirt
• Each gift contained a smallkeychain flashlight; 2 extrabatteries; a Christmas CD; beefjerky; two pair of socks; a DVD;a baseball cap; and hard candy
• Each camp also received anartificial Christmas tree;decorations; and a Christmas CD

Community Service Projects
• Provide two local community colleges with an annualscholarship– Coordinate one or more fundraising projects each year in order to fund these
scholarships
• Participate in or donate funds toward the annual PDIcommunity service project
• Participated in PDI Chapter Fairs and in current auctions aspart of fundraising efforts
