Our MBA programme is customised to meet the needs of
business executives. We offer two tracks:
(1) General MBA
(2) MBA (with specialization)
Both tracks require students to complete a total of 42
credit hours. 30 credit hours of 10 core courses while 12
credit hours of 4 elective courses.
Our MBA curriculum is designed to provide students with
comprehensive business and management knowledge
and skills for business decision-making. The 9 learning
outcomes include:
1. Integrate and apply advanced business knowledge and skills in
managing organisations.

3 The course is designed to expose students toward important aspects in designing products
and services as well as the process that produce them. The course will look into the
strategic and operational level of processes that will lead to understanding the operations
network and the physical arrangement of the operation’s facilities, technology and people.
Topics of discussion will include the introduction to the design in operations management,
design of products and services, process planning and improvement, quality management,
supply chain management, materials management and some other infrastructure issues,
highly relevant to the OM practices in the organisations.

MANAGEMENT
ACCOUNTING FOR
MANAGERS

This course is designed for non-accountants to understand and appreciate the role and
function of management accounting information. The main emphasis is to provide
managerial executives with the necessary understanding of fundamental management
accounting concepts and tools that will improve problem solving-skills. Students should be
able to apply critical thinking skills in unstructured settings.

MANAGEMENT
3 Marketing management is the art and science of creating and sustaining customers by
offering superior value to the competitors. Marketing management focuses on satisfying
customers as well as meeting organisational objectives albeit challenges in the dynamic
environment, Therefore, this course provides concepts and processes of marketing which
include understanding and selecting target market/s, creating communicating, and
delivering valued offerings to customers.

LEADERSHIP IN
ORGANIZATION
3 The purpose of the course is to provide a comprehensive understanding of leadership in
organisations. The course focuses on managerial leadership in which several aspects of
leadership will be addressed. Theories and research findings on leadership in organisations
will be selected and made as bases of discussions throughout the course.

DECISION ANALYSIS

Mathematical or quantitative tools have been applied for thousands of years. However, the
formal study and application of quantitative techniques to practical decision making is
largely a product of the twentieth century. Decision analysis refers to a body of techniques
that allows a decision-maker to evaluate uncertainty, risk, and multiple objectives decision
problems. Among the topics that will be covered in this course are decision theory,
forecasting, linear programming, and transportation and assignment models, waiting line
analysis, simulation, network flow models and project management.

3 Organisations are required to continuously find better ways to compete in the rapidly
changing global business environment. Survival and competition have become imperative
for organizations in the current global scenario. Whilst most leaders and managers will
agree that a vision and mission is essential to the survival and success of modern-day
organisations, strategic thinking and abilities to craft and execute the right strategies to
remain competitive become increasingly essential. The course develops the strategic
thinking and decision making abilities of students, especially in relation to understanding
the use of various strategies in different situations.

for revenue and margin improvement in order to become professional executives.

FINANCE

Corporate finance incorporates both the short- and long-term knowledge of financial
management to assist companies in their decision making. Everything a company does
involve the financial aspect and dimension. Therefore, this course is designed to enhance
the overall managerial understanding of corporate finance. Specifically, it aims to integrate
students’ ability to analyse, interpret, and use facts and figures effectively to arrive at
corporate financial decisions. Exposure to contemporary issues of corporate finance in
Malaysia would also be incorporated to ensure the applicability of this course to real
situations.

MANAGERIAL
ECONOMICS
3 Managerial economics integrates the principles and tools of economic analysis with
managerial decision-making. Microeconomics theories of demand, production and cost,
and market structure are combined with the tools of marginal analysis and econometrics to
help understand the role of economics in formulating and solving managerial problems.
Students are required to apply economic reasoning to managerial decisions in demand
analysis and sales forecasting, production and cost analysis, product pricing, and
competitive strategies. Course material integrates economic theory with statistical
techniques and concepts from the other business disciplines through a series of case
studies and formal reviews of a variety of well-established analytical models.

LAW AND
CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY

The course is a comparative study covering legal and ethical concepts in relation to specific
areas in business law. The areas of discussion include legal jurisprudence, ethical
philosophy and its classifications and, theories and concepts of corporate social
responsibility. Areas of law covered in the course are contract law, company law, sale of
goods, consumer law, employment law, environmental law, intellectual property law and
international trade law. The course also examines content and value of codes of conduct
and other normative standards that have been advanced as models for responsible
corporate behaviour. This course is designed to stimulate the thinking and update
knowledge on legal, ethical issues and corporate social responsibilities in the business
world. Students are expected to recognise and manage ethical issues as well as to
formulate their own standards of integrity and professional.

ENGLISH REQUIREMENT International applicants should meet any one of the following English
requirements before they are accepted for admission into the
programmes. Students must obtain:
1. Minimum score in the Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL)
a. 550 in the TOEFL Paper Based Test; or
b. 213 in the TOEFL Computer Based Test; or
c. 80 in the TOEFL Internet Based Test; or
2. Minimum score of 6.0 in the International English Language
Testing System (IELTS); or
3. A degree from any English Speaking Countries (i.e. Australia,

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Selection is based on the Admissions Committee’s
careful evaluation of the applicant’s academic history,
English Proficiency Test results or TOEFL, GMAT scores,
recommendations, work experience, interviews and
commitment to complete the program.
In the selection process, the Admissions Committee
evaluates the applicant’s academic ability, personal
character, motivation, leadership ability, interpersonal
skills, work experience and management potential. In
general the entry requirements to the MBA program is
as follow:
1. A Bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara
Malaysia or any other institutions of higher
learning recognised by the University Senate
with a CGPA of at least 2.75;
AND
2. At least 3 years of work experience relevant to
the chosen area of specialization or a good
score on the Graduate Management Admission
Test (GMAT);
OR
3. A diploma from any institution of higher
learning recognized by the University Senate
with at least 10 years of relevant work
experience and aged 35 years or older; and
4. Fulfills English Language Requirement.

Students are categorised based on nationality as Malaysian, ASEAN, and Non-ASEAN and charged accordingly. Upon being accepted by
the University, students shall make arrangements for their financial support and the payment of Student Fee throughout their study at
the University. The Student Fee comprise of registration, tuition, accommodation and services. The Student Fee may be revised from
time to time with prior notice be given to students.
The Student Fee shall be paid within two (2) weeks after the commencement of each semester. Sponsored student must submit the
Sponsorship Letter from the sponsor upon registration. The letter must clearly state the type of fee covered under the sponsorship
(such as registration, tuition, accommodation and services). Payment for campus accommodation may be arranged separately.

Education Scholarship and Study Loans
The cost of higher education is increasing, either due
to inflation or other economic factors. As such, with
the increasing cost of education and the demand of
higher education, education scholarships and study
loans becomes an essential.
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), the eminent
