What is a Data Center?A generic term to describe a facility used to store computers, servers, and other networking equipment in a single location.
To the MCC INFO program area faculty our Data Center is a facility used to demonstrate some of the best methods used to build, secure, and move towards a “green” operation. It is also a tool to ensure that our curriculum covers the many aspects of a Data Center necessary for student’s professional success.

activity in their 4-county service areaJuly 2008 – Faculty begin building the Data Center
Management degreeFall 2008 – Faculty propose curriculum, vendor
partnerships established, renovation of 3rd floorSpring 2009 – Faculty begin training with IBM and HP,
systems designs finalizedSummer/Fall 2009 – Equipment delivered to MCCDecember 2009 – Equipment moved to Center

Students not only see the devices but learn to evaluate
and audit solutions implemented.
Data Center Server RoomBlades, SANS, Backup
and UPS Solutions were selected for
impact on curriculum.200 VM servers and
over 30 TB of storage is available.
Wiring Solutions Selected
Exposed overhead wiring solutions, switches, etc. were all selected because of their visual
effect
