MDA 3400 JAMES LANDPATHWAY: DIRECTINGFORM: DOCUMENTARY

Untitled documentary Subject: Kay JANE BROWNING

Tiverton is a simple, idyllic and peaceful town in remote Devon. Life is slow, the people are friendly and growing up in such a town is what most would dream of. That is, apart from Kay Jane Browning.

Kay is 25, an enthusiastic writer and choreographer, and a man inhabiting a woman's body. What happens when a Town that refuses to embrace change is home to the physical embodiment of it, and what methods does Kay use to fight prejudice?

This film will delve into Kays life, past and present, to see how he deals with the challenges posed by being different in rural Britain, and how dance provides the platform for, otherwise restricted, expression.

Audience/ SUBMISSION

Many young people feel afraid to reveal elements of their personal life through fear of backlash or prejudice. Whilst this is almost always the case - whatever the location - this is especially true in rural communities. This film is primarily aimed at those that are yet to overcome such obstacles, but also, those that have.

There are numerous LGBT and Transgender film festivals in the UK and abroad.

The Sheffield Doc Fest is the UKs largest documentary festival.

Why now?

9th October 2015: Eastenders casts Riley Carter Millington to play the soaps first Transgender character and the first male Transgender character on British Television.

6th October 2015: Channel 4 airs the divisive My Transgender Kid Transgender equality is slowly becoming part of the National zeitgeist
