MDM IS LOVIN

e’ve only got two more years until the world is pre-dicted to undergo a major catastrophic and apocalyptic fate, so before we get our asses handed to us by Mother Nature and a higher power, MDM is going to show up and turn out before we’re done. This magazine has been through significant transformations especially in the last 12 months and we are pushing the envelope even more in 2010. As you can see, our cover takes on a revamped design with a bolder and stylized nomenclature. It’s a new year, a new look — no half stepping here. Edgier fashion, fresher content and I can’t forget a sexy new lineup of 2010 MDM Cover Models. Launching the year with her billion-watt smile and sweet dimples that will last for days is the 2010 MDM Cov-er Girl Search Winner, April Guerrero. Her magnetic pearly whites won over judges and the crowd last month at the Globe. Too bad if you missed out on our show stopping event, but don’t trip — we’ve got a recap of what went down on and off the catwalk –– turn to page 18 for our 2010 Cover Girl Search coverage. Here’s to a healthy new year both physically, mentally and financially. May our waists get slimmer and our wallets grow fatter, at least we hope any-way!... Rayjai S. Babauta

MDM: You won over all, you are the winner. Tell me how does it feel?AG: Hmm, very good and very surprising because I thought I’m too ugly for every-thing!

MDM: Why would you say that, you’ve got a great look and good smile?AG: I don’t know, I guess it’s because I’m very shy.

MDM: Okay so did you feel that the Cover Girl Search would be good way to break out of your shyness?AG: Yes it really brought me out a lot, even just to stare at the crowd. I mean I was shak-ing in the beginning, but when it came to the second walk through [the swimsuit part], I was just like BAM — I got this! Ha-ha.

MDM: So for the record, you’re not Filipino at all? AG: No.

MDM: Always thought you were, or at least part anyway.AG: People always asked “Are you Pinay?” Ha-ha. I’m not

— I’m a full blooded Chamorrita.

MDM: So, back to the cover girl search, what was the memorable part for you? AG: Spending time getting ready in the dressing room because that’s when all of us connected. We didn’t know each other, but [we were comfortable. Asking each other] “Oh, can I borrow this or borrow that…” We were all just doing our own thing and just trying to get ready and [it was nice] just how we got to know each other.

MDM: So no one was catty? None of the girls were like “bitch stole my shoe!”AG: Ha-ha, I really thought that [might happen] and I was just waiting for girl [to say] bring it bitch-es!

MDM: But you ladies all got along?AG: Oh yeah, yes we did!

MDM: So I hear you like ROTC. Do you plan to join the ser-vice?

AG: Yes, [actually] my first option right after high school was to [join the] military, but I don’t know, I want to have some fun first.

MDM: What branch?AG: ARMY — active duty! I just love the challenges and I want to be challenged because I know I won’t give up.

MDM: Okay so let’s challenge you with this question. Are you single or are you dating someone?AG: I’m dating someone. It’s a [fairly new] relationship – very new.

MDM: Do you kiss or hook up on the first date?AG: No, I would never…

MDM: Even if he’s cute?AG: Ha-ha if he’s SUPER HOT!

MDM: Define super hot.AG: Well not just hot, because when [I think about a ‘hot’ person, I get the impression] that they might just want to hit and split.

MDM: Alright, would you say you go for looks first or personality?AG: The first thing I look for is they have to make me laugh.

MDM: Oh so you like humor to show off that smile! That’s how your dudus and how you flirt huh?AG: Ha-ha, oh yeah my family actually calls me dudus!

(continue on page 6)

Left: Black tuxedo jacket with sequined lapel and metallic silver sequined shorts from Everblue. Silver chain necklace from SM Store and Chase & Flight Boutique. Patent leather peep-toe biker pumps from SM Store. Earrings, stylists own. Right: Black asymmetrical dress and lace leggings from Everblue. Black zip up booties from SM Store.

MDMHJANUARY 2010 5

Page 8: MDM January 2010

MDM: IF you were single and you could have any guy in the world, who would he be or what would your type be?AG: [LONG PAUSE] There’s actually no one but I would like him to have dimples like me.

MDM: Just dimples, that it? No muscles, no biceps…AG: I don’t like too muscular, but fit [and in-shape]. I like guys with an average height.

MDM: What about a guy you would never date.AG: I wouldn’t date a guy with bad odor and poor hygiene. Oh and ugly teeth and chunkiness…I like them fit. I feel bad for saying that, but it’s true.

MDM: Yeah, you’ve got to be honest. So while we’re on the subject, do you hang with guys more or girls?AG: Guys.

MDM: Why?AG: Because girls are drama.

MDM: Tell us why because we hear a lot of women say that.AG: Hmm, because it’s part of our nature,

MDM: So are you saying you’re dramatic?AG: No, ha-ha not me! It depends — if they’re going to put it on the table then I’ll finish it. I hate to say that, gosh, [I sound like such a trouble maker.]

MDM: Well you’re nice to us... whatever, let’s move on.AG: Ha-ha okay thank God!

MDM: Have you always wanted to model?AG: I’ve always wanted to try it out, but I’ve always turned it down before because I thought it wasn’t for me. [I felt] I wasn’t tall enough and…I don’t know. Whenever the magazines came out I had to get it. I just liked reading about the [model’s] talents and some of them have a lot of talent. And I just admired [the magazine] and I love to take pictures.

MDM: So you’re a camera whore?AG: Ha-ha yes, I’m a camera whore!

MDM: What’s one of your favorite songs that you can’t get enough of?AG: Ahh, I have a lot.

MDM: Pick one, especially one that you love to dance to??AG: Really, anything from Akon.

MDM: Really?! wow, you like the convicts huh?AG: No, I just like how he sounds.

MDM: Do you like bad boys?AG: Uh…clean bad boys?!

MDM: Okay, whatever, let’s not go down that path…but do you have any last words to your fellow con-testants?AG: I’d like to say thank you [to the girls] for even supporting me. I love them all because [especially since] we connected so much. They’re all beautiful, awesome and they’re invited to my hotel room at the Sheraton.

April is wearing a Striped tunic dress and Steven by Steve Madden pumps from Chase & Flight Boutique. Gold lame leggings from Everblue. All accessories by J.Lo from SM Store.

2010If

you’re already thinking about call-

ing it quits with your current partner, what better way than

to do it in the New Year? Write out a standard pros and cons list. Then

subconsciously tell yourself that in order to fulfill the rest of your resolutions you’ll need to completely start anew, which

includes your lover! Ironically, you might want to have that “New Year’s Kiss” so I would wait until after the party hangover to break it off. Well, come

to think about it, breaking it off when you’re punch drunk

might hurt less.

The speculation of

what the New Year can bring particularly in

your love life is a huge part of the thrill in your love life. Be

open this year and go on dates with people you would think twice about — psychology

being that if the hottie at the gym never looked at you twice, they just might do

it now.

Fantasy can mean any-

thing, so if you auto-matically think about sexual fantasies — that’s your own

prerogative! But seriously, live out one of your wildest dreams this year

because there’s no time like the pres-ent! No need to get into details, but if you want to share it with MDM, you

know we’d love to hear it! If it has something to do with Twilight and vampires, we’ve had enough of

that crap for one year!

FANTASY

SWEET

This year is about

scoring more points with-out playing the game so hard

— or often for that matter. There are some things you should incorporate into

your strategy so you can yell GOAL all year long. 1) Clean and clean good – This goes for everything, from your room to the bath-

room and your computer, that’s why there’s a “clear history” option. 2) Rejection is your

friend – be the first to say no (even though you mean really yes). You’ll be surprised how fast

they keep coming back for more. 3) Keep your options open – stop saying “Oh, that’s not my type.” Please, options or

types are not applicable espe-cially at 3:30 in the morning.

MOREPLAY

Most people say they

want to get into shape in the New Year and lose x-

amount of pounds for health rea-sons — please, don’t give me that! You know damn well that you want

to have ex-lover dirty bird who once laid on the right side of the bed come

crawling back, begging for the new you. Nothing could be more satisfying this year than seeing the sleazy and arrogant ex-lover’s ego crumble like

Tyra Bank’s ANTM non-sense!...

appy New Years MDM game fanatics! Welcome to another edition of ADDICTED! I hate to start the New Year with some bad news, but I feel that it is my duty to inform you of the following. Ahem… H TONY HAWK RIDE SUCKS! Okay I know…I’m supposed to wait until the end of the review to tell you that, but I am so outrageously upset! It

was between DJ Hero and Ride. I already knew that DJ Hero was a must have, but being a former skater I had to try Ride. Because you can’t rent it the only ways to play it are 1) fork out the $120, or 2) convince a friend to buy it and play it at their house. So guess what I did? I put that thing on my Visa and prayed that it would be worth it. I must admit when I got home I was pretty impressed with how rigid the skate board was, but that’s where it all ends. The menus seem like they were slapped together and the loading times — oh, the great loading times. Those were supposed to be of things past. The tutorial was sub par at the most and once you start playing Ride, you’ll want to ride back to the store and return the thing. I tried to find something good about it to justify the money spent, but it was an impossible task. It was like taking a calculus exam without going to class at all. I even tried to observe the backgrounds. I mean, they have to at least make Barcelona look nice right? Wrong! The graphics are lame and the animations are completely dated. The wipe outs are not compelling. I mean, one of the best things about stake boarding games is the huge wipeouts that you can create! The controls are either unresponsive or too responsive and the timing delay makes it almost impossible to put together a solid line. What pissed me off even more than wasting $120 and thirty minutes of my life was when I would start to put a good line together and right in the middle, I wouldn’t get credit for pulling off a trick, hence killing my line. That was it for me — I took it back the very same day and traded it in for credit. And guess what I used the credit to buy? DJ Hero! Do not buy this game; do not even mention this game when seen out in public. I will scream bloody murder if you do so. Just convince a friend to buy it and play it at their house…keeping you kind of ADDICTED!

When I was first introduced to Christine the only thing I could remember aside from her gor-geous looks was her pink Lancer. And little did I know that her affection for pink was a little deeper than just a car paint job. How did I come to that conclusion? Well, after looking at a typed questionnaire print-ed on fluorescent pink paper that she submitted an hour before her photo shoot, I think that says enough. So, I sat down with Christine a few days after her shoot for a phone interview. Check out what this full blooded Korean born and raised in Hawaii had to tell me....

MDM: When did you get the car and what condition was it in?CLC: I bought it from a friend who was moving off-island back in 2007. It was pretty much bone stock.

MDM: Was it originally pink?CLC: Yes. Luckily my friend and I [who I bought it from] have the same taste in color — it was big plus for me.

MDM: Aside from your custom pink color work, did you have to order any other parts from off the rock?CLC: There are limited parts on Guam for the Mitsubishi Lancer, especially the Ralliart, which is between the ES and EVO, so I had order all the parts from the mainland.

MDM: What’s your favorite thing about the car?CLC: The stick shift. I love the feel of controlling my car. I like down shifting, it’s really fun because it’s standard.

MDM: You know that response alludes to a naughtier thought, right? CLC: Well, I’ll leave that up to the readers’ imagination. Ha-ha.

MDM: Ha-ha okay, so do you think your car reflects your personality?CLC: I would describe my car with the words naughty and nice. Yes, definitely, it reflects my personality. That’s really true, in regards to the color scheme of the car. The pink is for nice and the black is for naughty.

MDM: Hmm, okay then. So have you been naughty or nice in 2009?CLC: I hope I was nice. Ha-ha.

MDM: And if you were naughty then what? CLC: Then I guess no presents for me.

MDM: Do you think that ladies are better drivers than men?CLC: Yes, I think so because we can stop and ask for directions.

MDM: So what are you trying to say about guys?CLC: Ha-ha! It’s true, guys are more stubborn and don’t like to ask for

people’s help, they like to say “I got this, I got this babe!”

MDM: So now I ask you…do you really got it?CLC: Got it as in…

MDM: That’s for you to interpret.CLC: [Ha-ha okay] hell yeah, then! [I got this!]

MDM: So is that really why you haven’t entered it in any competitions?CLC: No! I just need to put more work into it. Probably if time and budget allows it, maybe doing more engine work.

Shout outs: I would like to thank my husband, Chris, who has been very supportive with my expensive habit! To my brother Calvin and my wonderful in-laws. My best friends, Nari Taimanglo and Leah Tamondong. To George and Sons for their expertise. J.D. at Ink Stained Tattoo. The Mitsubishi Club of Guam. And to Susan from Magic Mirror for doing my hair for the shoot.

Maintenance tip:My secret to preserving my car’s paint is simple, water and chamois!

MDM: Remember when I asked you if you wanted me to book a model for your car?CLC: Yeah, and I said, “I don’t make other girls model my car.” No offense, but it’s my car.

MDMHJANUARY 2010 5

For all my faithful readers, thanks for joining us in 2010! We are going to try something new this year and step our game up. We are going to incorporate some targeted, specific plans for you to get your legs, back, abdominals and chest in to tip top shape. We will give tips on nutrition, exercises and fitness facts and fads for every exercise level. Enough talking! Let’s get this party started!

BEGINNERS INTERMEDIATES EXPERTSIf you are looking for massive cuts and se-rious definition look into protein supple-ments. Check out CLA, and other supple-ments that help build muscle mass.

Make sure you are getting a good source of protein after a killer workout. If you wait more than 30 min after a workout, you will seriously sacrifice results.

You should be eating no less than 5 times a day. Make sure you are getting lean pro-tein, but watch the salt. Salt will make you retain the water and will make your hard cuts and lines disappear.

Start by reducing – not eliminating- those pesky carbs.

Choose the whole grain pastas and cut back on the rice!

Balance your meals and make sure you are getting at least one serving from all the food groups.

Watch the alcohol intake, and abandon those munchies.

Getting started is usually the hardest part, so stick it out and I will see you at the interme-diate phase.

Protein is your new best friend. Find some low salt, low fat recipes for fish, poultry and lean red meats.

Incorporate protein into low fat snacks to keep the metabolism furnace burning.

Make sure you start your day with a good source of protein. Think peanuts, cheese and eggs.

Lunch is important too. When eating out choose grilled meats. Spinach salad is a yummy way to add protein — and watch out for that dressing!

You’ve got a routine and you are getting results. Stick with it!

HEALTHIER

Like any body part, the key here is reducing overall percent body fat. What makes this part of the body particularly interesting is the high level of muscle mass found in this area, which means that proper protein consumption is key.

Tune in next issue and I will give you some exer-cises to burn fat, melt calories, and turn that junk to treasure.

Happy New Year!

ours in stilettos and the chaotic rush of the back stage dressing room all led up to an amazing 2010 Cover Girl Search. We kicked off with

an opening dance choreographed by Lesley Hongyee and Francine Fernandez, performed by none other than the ultra sexy MDM cover model alumni; the debut of “Stun so Hard,” a heavy

club banger by Big Zone and P. Money of Innovative Entertainment made exclusively for MDM and three amazing sets of female sirens in sizzling swimwear and alluring red dresses.

Proudly presented by Heineken as well as 76 Gas Stations and Circle K, iConnect and Coca-Cola, our 4th Annual MDM Cover Girl Search began with casting calls held islandwide from

our team set out to scout a promising roster of strong contestants for 2010. After nearly three months, we whittled down and refined our 25 contestants to strut hard or surrender in a show stopping event.

Our friends at the Globe Ultra Lounge did a fine job that Thursday evening and MDM sends a thank you to our panel of eight judges that had the hardest task of picking the 12 women, which you will get to

know in the following months. Liquid gold gasoline, salon services, clothing gift certificates and of course cold hard cash were just

a few of the prizes that our ladies walked away with. Let’s not forget that our buddies at 76 Gas Stations and Circle K gave $500 of gas to a lucky raffle winner. This year’s cover girl search I must say is truly one to beat!

At the end of the night our judging panel of experts in fashion, beauty, entertain-ment, marketing, telecommunications and photography selected their top 12 and they are Melody Borja, Jadine Cruz, Jonel Feliciano, April Guerrero, Shena Kerr, Geralynn Lunod, Dawn Perryman, Khiersty-Ahn Presa, Katrina Rubio, Monica Sherry, Lakysha Wilson and Susana Wusstig. NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Okay so I have to admit that when it comes to the NFL I am completely biased! I’m an Eagles fan and have been since the sixth grade! No matter how bad they’re playing I always think that we can at least get into a wildcard game. But those days of hopeless dreaming are no more. The NFC is just too tough a conference to get by on good looks alone. At 10-4 (as of 12/22/09) we have already clinched a wild card game and are playoff bound. We finally have a deep threat that McNab can throw to in De-Sean Jackson and our defense is finally staring to adjust to the different offenses being thrown at them. We are a contender this year baby! As in every year that the Philadelphia Eagles step on the field. Go Eagles!

GOLF Haha! Just kidding! What’s golf these days without Tiger Woods? Sorry PGA, but you’re just not worth watching anymore. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL With the New York Yankees already clinching their division you can’t help but think back-to-back. They are still gell-ing as a team and the days of the crowd booing A-Rod are of the past. I must say, when I found out they were letting Hideki Matsui go at the beginning of the season, I thought “what the hell?” They’re letting their World Series MVP go? But there must have been a good reason for it, like extending Jeter’s contract. All in all, with things going the way they are I have to go with the obvious and say that the Yanks, back-to-back champs! NATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Currently compare the standings in the NBA and it would be almost impossible to predict a Champion for the 2009-2010 season. Obvious picks would be Boston, Orlando, L.A. Lakers, Dallas and Cleveland. Lebron James is still dominating, but does his team have the depth this year? Kobe is still playing every game like it’s his last. The star studded Celtics are coasting and the young Orlando Magic are definitely making a name for themselves again this year. So what do I do? I simulate an entire season on my NBA2K game to find the answer. And the winner is…The Cleveland Cavilers! Yes I really did simulate the season, but experience breeds champions and the Cavs have been racking up those experience points every year. I don’t think that Lebron has the depth that he wants, but I definitely think that he has just enough to pull it off this season.

It looks like it is going to be another surprising year in sports. The Colts are still undefeated and the Saints just lost their first game (as of 12/22/09). The Lakers and Cavs are dominating in the NBA. And Tiger…poor Tiger, thinking about taking some time out from golf, which will give “what’s his name’s” a chance to make “a name” for themselves. This month I will give you my championship picks. Just know that there is no rational explanation. I didn’t compare stat sheets and break down teams player by player. This is pure gut, the way it’s supposed to be!

THe planeT kyle Real life Guide TO GuaM

Happy New Year everyone! It’s funny, I barely remem-ber anything from 2009 except maybe the passing of MJ, JFK breaking and the jungle known as Tiger Wood’s love life. The thing I find funnier is that we are in the year 2010! Growing up in the nineties, we always talked about the year 2010 as the super distant future, like in “The Jetsons.” I’m sure everyone who grew up before 1995 will agree that the year 2010 has fallen a little short as far as meeting our futuristic expectations. It is with that in mind that I present THE PLANET KYLE REAL LIFE GUIDE TO WHAT WE’RE MISSING IN THE YEAR 2010 ON GUAM!

FLYING PICK UP TRUCKSOkay, I know what you’re thinking, “Flying Pick Up Trucks?” Well, here’s my logic. If you can make a flying car, that would be cool too, but can you get gravel in a flying car? Can you help your friend move with a flying car? Can you buy a live pig for your next baby’s christening with a flying car? I didn’t think so. A flying pick up truck would better suit the vigorous lifestyles of people on Guam. Of course with safety in mind, when-ever someone buys a flying pick up truck on Guam, the dealer should hook them up with free bungee chords.

BUSCHCUTTING ROBOTSNobody’s going to deny that cutting the grass on Guam is one of those tasks that we would all rather someone else do for us, preferably for free, I think we

should pass it on to robots! Someone needs to invent a robot that cuts grass for us! I honestly thought this would be done by now. It doesn’t have to be fancy. All I need is something to cut the yard without also taking out my dad’s plants or my sister’s kitten too. I would like it to be at least four feet tall (like the height of the av-erage nine year old who bush cuts) so that it can use all major bush-cutter models, because we don’t want to have to go out and buy another one. Hopefully it is stainless steel to make sure that doesn’t get damaged by the flying rocks.

SOY SAUCE FLAVORED ICED CREAMFinally, I can do without holographic teleconferences or re-engineering of dinosaurs, but seriously, it’s 2010, so why hasn’t anyone created a SOY SAUCE FLAVORED ICE CREAM?! This would put Guam on the map, much like cheese put Wisconsin on the map and Happy Cows apparently do for California. Picture it now: “Guam – it’s where Soy Sauce Ice Cream comes from...” At the same time, I know you’re all probably tired of having to put Soy Sauce on your Vanilla Ice Cream every time, I know I am.

That’ll do it for this month, Happy 2010 to my wife Tierra, my kids ReyVihn and Sirena, my parents, my sister and brothers, my family and everyone else! See you all on the radio! Pues Shoots!
