“There is a magic diet program/pill that will give me the look I want with little to no work.” Nope. Not true. There is no magic diet program/pill that will
allow you to sit on your behind and play video games and eat chips that will give you the look you want. There are many gimmicks and loud sales people that preach the
benefits of a pill, herb, or diet plan, but the truth is that even in their fine print the results are infrequent (look for the fine print in diet commercials that say “results not typical”). Here is the best diet and exercise plan I can offer: Burn more calories than you eat. It is
that simple and that easy.
“There is a magic piece of equipment that I can buy that will give me the look I want in just
a few minutes a day!” Buzz. Thanks for playing, but that is incorrect. The overwhelming
majority of “ab specific” exercise equipment currently available on the market will have little to no benefit to your abs. At best some of them
may burn a few general calories. You do not need any fancy equipment to make a dramatic improvement to your abs. If you make your abs do the work, simple sit ups, running, core stability exercises can work wonders. If I had to pick my favorite piece of equipment, it would have to be the
medicine ball. At the right fitness level, it can open the door of possibilities
for the variation needed for results. It can also bring in more partner
interaction which make the exercises more fun, and will make you more likely to
stick with it.
“He who does the most crunches in a work out, wins!”
Ha-ha! No. I cant count the number of times I have sat down with someone who is frustrated with the lack of progress in the abs and starts by saying “I do 200 abs every day….I don’t know why I am not getting any results.” The answer is that doing a million abs
wrong is well…wrong. It will not get you results. It takes doing the exercises diligently with attention to form and focus on technique to get the full benefit of any abdominal exercise.
Take your time. Feeling the burn in the right spot is the signal that you are doing something right. If it hurts
to laugh, sneeze, or cough the next day, you have hit the mark.
